Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

So does anyone else feel that this game graphically looks better than Uncharted 4 during gameplay?

I can't believe I'm saying this but GG are fudging wizards!
Pretty much. The scenery that I drooled at and always wished I could traverse to in Uncharted is actually possible in Horizon.

Next-level shit here.

I'm getting Bioware vibes more than anything else now. The Brom and Cren stuff look like side quest stuff while Varl looks like main story stuff, which explains the big difference in quality. We probably won't get The Witcher 3 level stuff where you can't tell between side quests and main quests.

I'm still interested in the game, looks like a fun RPG. I only have a PS4 amateur though, and the game looks way better on a pro. Consequently, I'll pass until I'm able to play the definitive version, which would entail a significant pro price drop for me to purchase.

Suddenly worried about the game. Didn't think it would have dips in quality like this. This is at a level where quality control should have said 'Ditch the scene... not worth it.' Makes me wonder where else they may have cut corners / done a shoddy job

They should have it like the older elder scroll or wrpg where the char just stand still and you look at their ulgy face as they speak. Honestly the dialog scene is more or less what I expected from wrpg like fallout etc. Even FF15 side quests. Only main story cut scenes gets mocap cut scenes.

Come on folks, let's be honest for goodness sake. I'm sold on the gameplay because it looks fantastic, but that voice acting and script are garbage and this is not hyperbole. How the fuck did this happen? I am SO frigin' annoyed at the moment because my worse fears are worse than I feared they'd be. Let's just hope it's inconsistent and we do occasionally get some good acting, good dialogue and good facial capture.

I'm just happy they're trying to at least put a narrative to the side quest that's more meaningful than the crappy DA:I ones. The voice acting and direction hampered it for sure, but at least it's attempting more.

The cutscene about the missing mother had pretty good writing and interesting lore.

I don't really get the Ubisoft complaints. This is much more Witchery to me - and that's a very good thing.

Because it looks similar to this, and has a somewhat similar colour palette, too.

But Horizon is defnitely a leage or two above when it comes to graphics and art design.

Isn't it a dialogue sequence like any other rpg like me, dragon age, the witcher, Fallout, etc. which all have their own cringe worthy npcs and voice acted npcs?

Some of you guys get Doom and gloomed easily lol

It's bound to happen. It's the next big game and people will no doubt zero in on ANY imperfection.

If the gameplay holds up. Which I'm hopeful for based on impressions. Then no one is going to care and will be too busy playing the game.

I rly did want to see more of the rope launcher tho. Seems like this is the beginning of the game.

We're being honest here, you people are overreacting. That cutscene looks bad? Yes, doesn't seems properly animated to me. The VA and dialogue are fine, just standard RPG bullshit.

Can't help it but I have to admit the game looks very similar to any Ubisoft open world title, particularly a mix of Far Cry 3/4/Primal, TR and maybe the Division. Too much UI clutter, detective vision, running after ingredients and crafting. All of it looks like I've done it before in a dozen games. Hopefully these are the boring bits and there's not too much of it.

Exactly. People act like every piece of writing in the Witcher 3 was amazing and out of the park. It had its bad writing and VA as well.

this. someone name a few rpgs that don't feature at least several awkward dialog scenes :) ...

Nah, the writing is mostly fine. Just a few standout moments of it being poor. Voice acting is really only an issue for that one suicidal guy.

Aloy and the black dude are pretty damn good.

I didn't know you were a movie critic. I think everyone here is being honest, an only you and a few others are stuck on how awful one quest dialog was. To me, Varl and the other guy sounded very good, and only the insane dude was bad acting. So yeah, what you're saying is kinda hyperbole to me, especially since this is such a small part of the game which will likely have hundreds of hours of dialog.

No, they were bad and the reason I had fears in the first place. This is worse than my fears. I'm still buying it and I'm still going to enjoy the gameplay but it may be the first game I ever skip the cutscenes with. If I can't then I'll just have to put up with it.

After the elaborate menus of The Witcher 3 and Final Fantasy XV, including 3D character models and all, this menu looks very basic and bland I have to say. :/

I don't know why you guys get mad when people are skeptical of a game pre-release
I think there is a difference between being skeptical and being hyperbolic.

This I agree with. Not a fan of the menus at all. But hey, maybe they're not final.

This is how I feel too. All the other voice acting I've heard has been fine.

Even Witcher 3 had some bad cutscenes, but they don't offset all the fantastic ones. I'm not saying Horizon is going to be TW3 quality in terms of writing and cutscenes or anything like that, but I just don't think one bad cutscene means too much for Horizon. People need to give it some time.
