Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

"you can't compare this game graphically to other open world RPGs.......cos the mountains are in the way"

Wow!
Seriously... I'm impressed by the mental gymnastics on display haha. Show me one game that keeps everything rendered and displays it all at the same time. Show me just one.

I won't hold my breath.

So it has good graphics and cool concepts but the game is probably boring tripe?

Sounds like a Guerrilla game, alright.

So basically, you read the first few pages and skipped everything else. I'm really, really not understanding these scattered "boring gameplay" jabs.

I noticed when the health bar reduces there's a blue indicator as if you'll be able to regain your health some way. I can't see any other reason for it. Perhaps if you counter immediately?

Right below you health is your health bag bar that you can use to get back health by pressing up.
You can fill the health bag by picking different herbs from around the world .
Maybe that is the reason .

Waiting on the Easy Allies's preview has me like:

Looks amazing...my Pro is ready,my HDTV also but its not 4K HDR yet sadly, waiting till the end of the year for that.

Same plan, but it's good because I've scheduled replays of The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, and others when that happens. Just add Horizon to the list.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but Guerrilla might have outdone Naughty Dog in creating the most beautiful PlayStation 4 game. Considering this game is completely open world and features an extensive amount of different locations, weather variations and day/night cycles. Guerrilla deserve to be applauded for these stunning visuals alone.

Do we have a new graphical benchmark for consoles?

Love what i'm seeing. Guerrilla really taking their stuff to the next level with this one.

The UI and visual elements in the world are immensely busy though, hope to be able to tone that down a bit.

They've been pretty negative towards it ever since they showed the Dino-tower, so I'm definitely interested to see what they think

Edit: see if their opinions have changed I mean

Have they? I haven't really gotten that feel from them.

Excited to see Jones impression the most so I'm also eagerly awaiting that video to drop.

Regarding that VA clip, it's really horrible work, but the worst part about it is that it takes what could have been a serious treatment of mental health issues and turns the character into an internet joke. The people involved with that performance, including the people involved with the VA, the animator, and even the writer for writing that terrible dialogue, should be both embarrassed and a bit ashamed.

Any mention of going gold? If not then there might be some subtle improvements in framerate. Regardless, if it hasn't then it must be only days away.

Honestly, it seems to be such an outlier that I wouldn't be surprised if they redo the VA for that scene in a patch.

I was not expecting dungeons, they sound great. Well, not dungeons, the Cauldrons!

Dat opening. I'm so impressed with all the NPC designs, everyone feels so unique, even in just the differences with clothing design and face shapes. More importantly, the diversity with race, age, and gender is very welcome, too. I don't think they'll be able to beat out TW3 in sheer NPC quantity, because the game is so NPC dense, but Horizon is definitely a pleasant surprise. The creature and gameplay variety is great, along with the skill trees. I'm still loving all the outfits of Aloy's that I've seen.

I've gone from liking what I'd previously seen to being genuinely excited for the game... which continues to mess up my 'how am I already going to fit in all the March games?' issue.

There was an episode of frame trap a few months back where they talked about all the upcoming rpgs and they all seemed pretty lukewarm about it, although maybe I'm misremembering and need to rewatch. Also during the Switch presentation they randomly brought it up out of nowhere as looking inferior to some of the games that were shown. Wheather or not that's true is subjective, but to just bring it up out of nowhere to discredit it was pretty weird, at least to me. Also if you go back and watch Huber talk about it after it was revealed for the first time they all seemed stoked for it, I haven't gotten that impression from them since
