Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

To add to this: The story, plot, and dialogue beats I saw in my limited time made me say the following to a bunch of non-gaming friends: "I won't be embarrassed to show this game off to the uninitiated, the way I am for quite a few so-called 'grown-up' games." It presents really well, without trying too hard. Really liked the opening bits in the story about multiple cultures clashing. Lots of heart on display in that small chunk of gameplay.

Sounds great.

I know. I just don't know if I'm ready to invest $400 without the extra benefit of 4K. Maybe I'll start seeking out base ps4 trade-ins or selling it on craigslist.

HYPE

lol sure thing bud.

$175 trade in at GS. They will probably have a Pro bundle with Horizon.

Tks for this snippet man. I'm sure TLOU and Witcher inspired many devs to up their game in storytelling. I think this will turn out good and will judge the final game for myself. Really does sound overwhelming positive though so that's always a good sign.

I mean i don't expect this to get to TLOU or witcher 3.
This is GG first time doing a rpg .
Also for big open world rpgs like this some parts of the story\side quest going to be better than others .

Yeah. Get creeper status with it lol

I bet I can find AT LEAST ten posts from everyone person in this thread where they entered a thread that was clearly designed to praise a game only to say "Game is trash" "Played it. Traded it in after two hours because it's garbage" Fuck outta here lol

I'm just not sensitive enough about the opinions of others to check the post history. I can't allow myself to become so mind fucked because your opinion doesn't match my own.

This sounds like a fun Bish challenge.

Thanks for that, combat with humans looks a little goofy, but the stealth kills are brutal as heck.
Yeah, it almost seemed like their AI was completely broken or something, they literally just stand there most of the time and can't even see you when you're right in front of them. Hopefully the human combat turns out to be better in the final product, my biggest issue with what I've seen so far.

Everything else has me very excited though, Nioh and this in the same month is gonna be crazy.

The HUD is over the top in a lot of these videos but hopefully much of it can be disabled. Other than that it looks great. Looking forward to it.

what's the use in just saying "man that looks awesome, day one!"

it's a discussion thread. we should probably stop with this issue though as it's derailing things.

Both things don't really promote discussion. Saying "man that looks awesome, day one!" or saying "man this looks like absolute shit", they are both counterproductive to a discussion thread. It would be nice if people actually posted why they thing said thing looks like "shit" or why said thing looks "awesome". That way people can actually discuss points instead of saying one off things.

I love the fact that apparently you will want to alter your approach to each machine based on what materials you're looking to harvest. That's an extra layer of strategy I wasn't expecting from this game.

Like, if you kill it in front it gives you a different material than if you kill it from the back? That's great!

Nah, it will sell like Bloodborne, or around 4.5 million and that's good. Very good for a new IP.

I bet it does better than Bloodborne. BB was a borderline horror game and a Souls game. Neither which are mainstream still. Obviously very Mature and difficult game.

Horizon could see that Assasin's Creed audience if they review well and keep the marketing up.

I mean, this is exactly the kind of limited preview event that leaves us unable to TRULY test the game's boundaries, the way you describe. At least in my experience, I never ran into an invisible wall or a "can't fight this enemy yet" barrier. I had a ton of land to roam on foot or on horseback and could just go and go if I wanted. (I was also happy to see a fast-travel system in play, which requires crafting fast-travel "kits" so that you don't spam the feature. It lets you warp to major settlements and other specific landmarks that you've already discovered.)

Look at the top view of the map as they move it around. It's really just a bunch of corridors, with a few paths leading up the side of a mountain. That's just the beginning area, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is how the entire world is laid out for the most part.

New bird like machine here (SPOILER):

Reminds me of:

The aesthetics of this game is a pure delight.

Yeah, they talk about something like that in the Playstation Underground video. Where and how you target them determines what kind of loot drops. If you blow up certain parts, there's no loot from those pieces, for instance.

There was an example with the Grazer(deer like machine) where if you shoot of its canister you can use it to create fire arrows, but if you use a fire arrow on it it explodes and creates an aoe explosion. Also i think the Sawtooth has a radar disk on its back so its attack pattern will change if you destroy that.

No, the robots have component attached that you can attack in various way to get different loot. For example you see the canister some robot have, those are flammable. If you attack it with normal arrow, it will detach from the robot and you can pick up the canister as loot.

But you can also shoot it with fure arrow to make it explode and deal extra damage

I know it's not fair to compare the two but the lip syncing is really jarring after playing the like of Uncharted 4. It's really noticeable.

This game looks so beautiful but damn some of the mouth animations and voice acting makes me want to cancel my collector's edition :(

I'm definitely not expecting Witcher 3 levels of writing & quality side quests. But I'm going into this blind, great previews from what I hear though. Looking forward to playing this!
