Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Because Zelda has a more charming tone, Horizon is a world in ruins and those particular enviroments are brown which is obviously not as appealing as a green place with sun shining on the flowers.

You can see that there is a lot of detail put into Horizon (those gifs show it). It's technicaly obvious that Horizon looks better, some people just prefer a different tone that Zelda provides.

Horizon feels one good generation ahead but it doesn't mean it will be a better game

I really like the latest Zelda Trailers but the graphics are partially killing my hype

Comparing Zelda to Horizon main thing I didn't like about Zelda is the density of Zelda is really weak and always so barren, empty looking and too simple it would be boring to look at after awhile
Not much interesting rich spaces and locales except a few concentrated parts

Horizon looks like a far cry graphically and technically against Breath of the Wild, but it's not a about that: game should be fun too and have Persona. If both these games review well, this will have a Mass Effect on my wallet, since they release so Nier to each other and I probably wouldn't be able to buy all these games Nioh. Maybe a deal with the Yakuza, but failing to pay them might have dire consequences like getting dangled off a building and possibly fatally succumbing to Gravity Rush. I will be going to sleep now.

Well done, though you missed Resident Evil 7. ;)

Looks fucking sick.

Zelda doesnt look this good, looks alright but not sick.

SICK.

Speaking of Zelda comparisons, why dont more games do what Zelda does?

Open world, but well designed, purposeful dungeons where the best gameplay takes place? Im doubtful that Horizon will have such dungeons, but what are the chances they at least have Skyrim-like dungeons, which at least had some kind of puzzle solving and sense of purposeful adventure?

It has dungeons with puzzles. Two confirmed so far.

To answer your question. It's pretty fucking hard.

But Horizon has exactly that.

Because maybe Horizon is a different kind of game and not exactly like Zelda?

I think they do, I read somewhere they are called Cauldrons or something. Sony didn't allow them to be put in the video previews though.

Nioh will keep me occupy for the month.
Heh, good for you. Just bought RE7 last week, so combined with Horizon, my budget is already exceeded. Wish I had a working man's salary like most of you do. :P

Yes, I used the term in jest.

Edit: Yup, forgot to mention that I'm resubbing my Plus subscription in February too. That's nearly RM 600 in just a quarter, whelp. Luckily, the year won't be this stacked again until the holidays when the biggest games release and the sales hit.

Wait, haven't we seen all these three landscaped yet? There's the jungle, the desert and the snowy, mountainous area.
No idea, I avoided most gameplay demoes and impressions. Mostly because I was more hyped for RE7 as we were gearing up for release, so I thought it was the best way to go into Horizon as fresh as possible as well.

there's at least 4 so far

Cauldron RHO

Cauldron ZETA

Cauldron PSI

Cauldron Sigma

my assumption is that you clear out the dungeon/cauldron to gain the ability to hack certain machines. for example, it seems that if you finish cauldron PSI, you unlock the ability to hack Strider, the horse looking machine.

All these Far Cry comparisons are baffling. I don't think any of you have played Far Cry Primal, have you?

My thoughts exactly, although the Map and Tall Giraffe things are a little Far Cry I guess.

The game itself looks/feels more like The Witcher, Uncharted, Dark Souls, Mass Effect, Tomb Raider all rolled into one delicious RPG, can't wait!

Yeah, my biggest gripe but everything else looks great.

I thought so. The regions shown in this gif are all areas we've seen in trailers and gameplay before. I wonder if there is actually a region that they haven't shown us...

This looks fantastic. I had no idea the freedom it would allow the player - I assumed it looked so good because it was doing some Naughty Dog / FFXIII corridor gaslighting, but oh god, it's open world.

Just in time for ToZ and GoW3 remaster? Plenty to play until Horizon then.

Not really interested in ToZ, but I might download GOW3 despite playing it a lot on my PS3 years ago. Just worried about my storage space, I don't have much left. Most importantly, though, I want to catch that 15 month Plus offer, really good deal.

i fear for the story and be pulled into because the dialog cutscene in the gameplay shown (especialy the suicidal guy) make the andromeda one near good

I noticed in every video on you tube Zelda was either empty or had 3 to 5 enemies at a time spawned in. Maybe there will be more dense populated areas and 10 or more enemies.

But its like allot of open world games, I recall playing Dragon age inquisition and it had 5 or so spawning enemies at a time and Zelda reminded me of that game. I think we are just limited by console CPU;s and its across many games, some exceptions for a large map but not open world was shadow of mordor which had hordes in towns.

Sometimes I think I would prefer 6 or 7 interlinked areas if it would mean more dense populations, like say 6 islands with a central one...

I think W3 does it best. There's always enemies in every part of the map, whether its a pack of wolfs or ghouls.

Eurogamer seems pretty pleased so far:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ro-dawn-really-be-a-aaa-game-without-cynicism

I certainly warmed to Horizon's hero Aloy more than I thought I would during the few hours I was able to go hands-on with the game.

It remains to be seen how the narrative will develop over the course of the game, but early impressions indicate that Horizon's storytelling is surprisingly confident, up to and including a Rocky-style training montage that, despite its oddness, works.

It's never an ideal way to get a feel for the rhythm of an open-world RPG, but it was just enough to get an idea of the story that Guerilla is trying to tell with Aloy - a story that is surprisingly compelling, despite the fact that many fans feel they've already got the main narrative beats pegged a mile off.

You say "especially the suicidal guy" as if the other dialogue scenes were bad when in fact they simply are not. Show me dialogue and VA in a recent RPG (not named Witcher 3) that is vastly better.

The Zelda comparison is so silly. How do you even know the open world is well designed?

Well, yeah the intro of the game features places that have less enemies because the player isn't equipped to take on larger groups. Surprise.

Immediately off the intro area when the player has most of their toolset, Enemies can be in groups of 10-12 and they all 1-3 shot Link.

The Zelda comparison is so silly. How do you even know the open world is well designed?

They've consistently presented fundamentals of good world design such as 1. A Lack of Map Markers, forcing you to navigate by sight and actually thinking instead of simply following the objective marker to the next place where gameplay happens. 2. Developing a Loop of Exploration around the World design where the world itself piques the curiosity of the player in a naturalistic manner. 3. Inherently justifying nonlinearity by allowing the player to beat the game almost immediately. 4. A systemic focus to make nearly every aspect of the world have some other effect on gameplay which usually results in naturally varied gameplay.

It has the fundamentals of what would make a good open world. And the Great Plateau (the intro to the game) pretty much proved what sort of design this results in, tons of varied and satisfying gameplay.

I'm still on a blackout on this one... Choosing carefully what i read and watch... So its absolute that there are no human combatants/factions that you'd fight against in the game?

Easy Allies preview almost sold me on the game. I'm more positive now, it seems enemies can be very aggressive and the battles alone may make it way more interesting than Far Cry, even though it's upgrading system still seems so similar to me. The robot enemies seems to add something really great to it.

Also, it's great to see human enemies and real animals. I imagined they would be into the game, but it was good to see it in action in that footage.

Yet, the world of the game also feels really awesome, seems HUGE and very diverse. The wether (which wasn't mentioned in the EA preview) also seems pretty impressive.

Definitely a high priority on my wishlist now.

Here are examples of animation, VA and dialogue in the most recent RPGs. I dont see how anyone who are fans of these games can say how its much different/better.

Witcher 3 is clearly the best. The others? Not so much in comparison to Horizon. Curious to see what you guys think.
