Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Link doesn't talk to himself incessantly right? Huge bonus!

I honestly think Breath of the Wild looks like Dawn of Mana, but that's just me.

I can see how some would prefer Breath of the Wild though, since you can make a case that Horizon is striving for realism and Zelda is using that Nintendo charm.

Amazon UK sales rank for the PS4 Pro and Horizon Zero Dawn shot up after all the media yesterday:

Sony has got a system seller in Horizon :)
Nioh is doomed

Something like that is present in the Horizon, basically the particular side activity will reveal the past in form of video or environment change , (in one preview you reveal a building which is a form of a military establishment).
So yes these are also present in the game. and it works particularly well for this setting as there is big gap in past and present.

Like this

You should spoiler tag that IMO.

Some of you guys have the patience of Jobe, I would never give these dudes the time of day, about their shortcomings about a game. Let them wallow in it and they will move on. The more you entertain them, the more...

Not to incite a fan war, but these Zelda gifs really are more pleasant to look at.

Because Zelda has a more charming tone, Horizon is a world in ruins and those particular enviroments are brown which is obviously not as appealing as a green place with sun shining on the flowers.

You can see that there is a lot of detail put into Horizon (those gifs show it). It's technicaly obvious that Horizon looks better, some people just prefer a different tone that Zelda provides.

LOL So this thread turned into another Zelda vs. Horizon fanwar.

I couldn't care less about Zelda right now. Seems to be only Zelda fans making the comparisons. Guess they feel threatened with having another game share the spotlight.

How can an unreleased game garner fans? That's setting themselves up for some possible disappointment(No Man's Sky).

So no one can get excited about a game without playing it first? Using No Man's Sky as the cautionary tale for hype has become eye roll worthy now. That game had red flags all over the place and people just chose to ignore them.

I'm sure you are not excited for any upcoming game that you have not played yet...I salute your discipline.

This thread was moving nicely before the Zelda looks better posts started cropping up.

Nothing wrong with comparison, but it'll turn to an inevitable fan boy war bogging down any sort of discussion. Ahh well.

Edit: and guys please try use spoiler tags for some obiviously spoilery things.
There's a particularly nasty one on the previous page

I get excited but I wouldn't call myself a fan of something unreleased. I was excited for No Man's Sky and I still am(haven't played it yet), as I am for Horizon, but I wouldn't call myself a fan. I guess it's just semantics, I don't have a word for being excited for an unreleased work.

I noticed one thing people might have missed. We now know that "cauldrons" are the dungeons in this game and I noticed that in our inventory we have a notebook with a machine catalogue. If you read the information it says exactly which cauldron built the machine. This is what I'm talking about:

Cauldron RHO (SPOILER New machine type):

Cauldron ZETA:

Cauldron PSI:

Cauldron Sigma is the one we saw in the new gameplay videos:

I guess there will be more? I'm excited. Really hope these are some good dungeons and not just small things like the tombs in Tomb Raider reboot.
Hmm I assume overides is what allow you to hack the machines. So you had to clear the cauldron to gain the ability to hack specific robots.

Looks like this mean you can hack thunderjaw eventually.

As long as no one tries to claim that BOTW is more technically impressive than Horizon, that's totally fine. Art styles are obviously very subjective and as such, can easily be more pleasing to someone who values it above tech. The cell shaded, cartoonish look is definitely pretty unique. However, tech wise, there is factually just no competition; Horizon is literally a generation ahead. Lighting, shading, draw distances, texture quality and raw polycounts alone are already a huge leap ahead in Horizon.

There were people who actually debated over this??

Agreed.

Looks like a farcry game in terms of unlocking towers and outposts , but I do love that each Dino has unique functions and behave differently , also love the fact some act in herds etc .

It's between this and mass effect for me so going to take a wait and see (who am I kidding I will probably get both :) )

Nah mate. Game is actually a Saboteur clone.

Say what you want about Guerrilla Games, but if there's one thing that they excel at, it's making a visually pleasing game. When you have a group of people who can squeeze the most out of powerful hardware coupled with very strong art direction, you're going to get a seriously good looking game.

If you're someone who wants to take a shots at Horizon, it would be wise not to mention the visuals. It's not going to end well for you.

Guerrilla Games have some of the best artists in this industry.

Did you think it looked better in this GIF too:

or just the one you quoted, I'm assuming the latter.

Even if it doesn't matter; Yes, that Horison-gif looks better. I've never said that BotW, in every aspect, looks better but I just responded to this quote:
“ Horizon just looks SO MUCH BETTER. It would be hard for someone to say otherwise.”
It’s one thing to say that something looks good, but don’t tell other people what they can or can’t think.

Strange that the first quarter of this year is so stacked with good games, glad it's not all crowded around the holidays.

True, but it's a bit too packed for my liking. So a couple of games will have to wait. I guess the alternative - a drought of quality games - is much worse though. :)

On a technical level, Horizon is undeniably superior. I'd rather spend time in BotW's world easily tho. Zelda is day one for me, and I'm not even a big Zelda fan. Horizon will have to impress me with reviews. Definitely more interested after previews.

Horizon looks like a far cry graphically and technically against Breath of the Wild, but it's not a about that: game should be fun too and have Persona. If both these games review well, this will have a Mass Effect on my wallet, since they release so Nier to each other and I probably wouldn't be able to buy all these games Nioh. Maybe a deal with the Yakuza, but failing to pay them might have dire consequences like getting dangled off a building and possibly fatally succumbing to Gravity Rush. I will be going to sleep now.

I dont know if i should boo or applaud this.

I think the one thing I see Zelda graphically does better are the grass physics and how they bend realistically to link. Horizon the grass clips and tall grass just sways around a bit near the character but doesn't fully bend to where alloy stands

Everyone arguing about Horizon vs Zelda, 2 very different games... Ill just play both. Ill just have to decide what to play first :S

Edit:

Bravo:
