Finally I managed to beat Cave of Shadows with decent hearts amount. Only used wolf link once to recover 15 hearts.

Amiibo Wolf Link with 15,5 hearts. Breath of the Wild here we come...

3 weeks :|

I have a maxed out Wolf Link but I don't know if he'll work with my copy of Breath of the Wild since I'll be playing it on my Japanese Wii U.

If my Switch preorder for some stupid reason cancels itself, then I'm getting the WiiU version. I'm not waiting until late March or April to play it.

Though if it does cancel, I think the only reason why would be if my updated debit card for some reason doesn't show up, which is reasonable. I just don't want to get a random email like someone reported from BestBuy Canada. (Mine is through GameStop US and I paid $15 to deliver on the 3rd rather than free shipping for a March 6-8th arrival) I was just worried about chancing GameStop charging me on the 28th or the 1st. My card expires in March and I still haven't gotten a new one yet. I'm heading to the bank today to find out what's up. I don't want to bother asking my brother or one of my parents to update my order with their card and give them cash if worst comes to worst.

EDIT: Bank said that the card will still work all through March if the card says it expires 3/17 and I would have until April to activate the new one. *phew*

I think it is time to draw the digital line. BotW WiiU will be out in 3 weeks and I think there is going to be a lot of trolls crying here. Either way when the game comes out this forum will likely be on fire. So in order to try to put it out some gasoline on this fire I will ask those interested to stand up and be counted.

I would like to make a honorary invitation to Duckroll who help fuel the fire on a regular basis – assuming Duckroll would be “Against”. In the end though, it is your decision.

Already pre-ordered the WiiU version at Best Buy when they were running that Visa Checkout promotion, plus GCU discount. All the way, every day.

No Switch for me until they make the platform worth owning.
Quoting myself:
Normally I buy every Nintendo home console at launch or soon after but this time around I'm super duper not excited about it. Contrary to that one thread the launch lineup is actually pretty terrible, I'm going to play BOTW on my WiiU, there aren't enough compelling unique releases in the future, and I'm not going to shell out big bucks for a Switch + 4x pro controllers for uplifted versions of MK/Smash/Splatoon.

I'll most likely wait till 2018 to get a Switch, so I'll be playing the digital version on Wii U. (I'll get the Switch physical version later with the console tho)

I agree with you that they need to sell as many units as possible, so that potentially influenced their decision to release it on both platforms. (It's not like any significant marketing budget is going in to pushing the Wii U version at this point.) There is also probably a lot of data to support that hardcore consumers may double-dip. They have been promising Wii U fans this game for ages, and cancelling it would certainly disgruntle an already jaded hardcore fanbase, so that may not have been an option. Releasing exclusive content on the Switch version (which, they still may do) would also agitate Wii U owners, as they may feel frustrated that they were receiving an 'incomplete game'. The only way to create a disparity between the two versions without directly drawing the ire of their fanbase would be to blame the gameplay/audio/visual performance on the hardware -- whether this is true or not.

With all of that being said, think of the optics of releasing the same game on your own two consoles, released in 2012 and 2017 respectively, that run virtually identically. It is absolutely in their best interest to ensure that the version of the game that runs on their new hardware have better performance, even if this is artificially implemented by capping the output of the other version. For better or worse, this Zelda is about moving Switch consoles at this point.
Of course the Switch will be the better version,i don't think anyone ever(ever) disputed that, but it will be perfectly playable on both systems, the differences will be noticeable but won't be as big as you think.

720p to 900p with increased draw distance, slightly better textures, more ambient sounds and higher framerate is enough.

And yes,its most likely due to hardware limitations,BOTW is pushing the Wii U to the max

I do think the fact that the game seemingly runs virtually identically makes the Switch seem less attractive, but the real "problem" is the Switch hardware is basically a boosted Wii U with portability. It's up to Nintendo to show us that the tradeoff is worth it, and this tradeoff will manifest itself no matter what is done, and they cannot hide it in artificial ways. I think they know that, and are truly banking on the portability of Switch being the real selling point here. That's also reflected in their ads and messaging so far. They don't talk about power too much.

I think you misunderstood. I don't think the Switch-version will run significantly better. That's not what I'm suggesting. In fact I would wager that they are close, with even possibility that the Wii U version could've been the superior version, if measures weren't in place to make it perform otherwise.

I agree with this. The portability is nice, especially for commuters. I still would like a Switch, but not until the library is already in place. I won't re-buy the Wii U ports (with the possible exception of MK8D) and none of the other launch titles really interest me enough to rush out and grab one yet.

Do you think there's the chance that the Wii U version is being scaled back purposely to stimulate more sales for the Switch?

I'm playing the Wii U version. I plan on eventually buying a Switch as I want to play Arms, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. However, I'm going to wait at least until after E3 before buying the system. I have no interest in buying a system where the first major exclusive game won't be coming until a few months after launch. If I hadn't owned the Wii U, it'd be a different story.

It's the only interesting Nintendo title this year, so I'll play the WiiU copy my roommate has pre-ordered.

This.
Nintendo got a nerve asking 300$ for this thing

But you paid $300 for a Wii with 3 cores of the same old processor the last two systems had and an ATi Radeon stapled on?

Which is absolutely outrageous given what little we know about the architecture and the development platforms of both systems.

When has anyone ever done this?

I don't know. I figured that the timing of both the Wii U and Switch seem all too convenient. The tight wad in me is telling me to go with the Wii U version, but I'm committed to the Switch version. Would have been nice to have played this game a couple years earlier though. I like what I'm seeing so far. I currently playing through Ocarina of Time to get me hyped for this game.

I'm tentatively getting the Wii U version, though no preorder. I'm interested in just how big the differences are before I commit, so I'll probably pick it up a few weeks after release.

I wasn't going to, but I went ahead and pre-ordered the NS version. I own all the other console Zelda games, so I should own this one, too. I'm not all that excited about the game, as I want to play I Am Setsuna more, but it'll be nice running around the world. Was going to get it for the Wii U, but decided it'd be better to have more NS games.

So you're buying a Nintendo Switch to play a game you're not that excited about and another game you can currently get for $20 on existing platforms? I wish I had that kind of money.

If I can buy Zelda for Switch at launch (meaning I can get a Switch at launch) I'll buy Zelda for Switch at launch.

If I can't get a Switch at launch, I'll buy Zelda for WiiU.

I really hope I don't have to buy Zelda for WiiU.

On the same boat. I'm really hyped for this and even if I get the switch it'll just be sitting there until Mario comes out. I love playing games on their best possible way but I'll just have to make a compromise for this.

Looks like I'll be able to pull off a Switch purchase at launch, so Switch for me. I expected the versions to be more or less identical, ala Twilight Princess, but the comparisons I see favor the Switch by a lot.

Do you think there's the chance that the Wii U version is being scaled back purposely to stimulate more sales for the Switch?

No.

The resolution increase, fidelity, draw distance and sound improvements are all clearly hardware related and the Switch, at least when docked, is easily beefier than the Wii U.

DIfferences seems to be pretty minor from what's been observed, I'd like the bigger draw distance but that's not worth buying a console that I have literally 0 interest and whose controller's mapping I hate. So yeah, I'm going hard Wii U here.

Double dipping on both. Son will probably be on the Wii U version, and i'll be on the Switch when he has the TV, and I think it'll be really fun to play it back to back like that.

As excited as I am for the game, I am awful about playing console games and something being on console has to be REALLY fun for me to play it more than once or twice.

I know if I bought it on Wii U, it'd feel like a chore to play it. I barely play my PS4 for the same reason, console gaming is just too big a hassle for me.

With the Switch though I'll be able to play in bed, on the go, whatever situation I need to, so I'd MUCH rather get that.
