GG has probably been laughing their asses off at some of the shit that has been posted about Horizon over last couple of months.

Seriously dude, people just do not get this team. They have been rushed to provide both KZ3 and KZSF. People don't realize how efficient this dev has been all the while planning this game in the background.

People shit on KZSF way too much around here. Yeah the story is B garbage tier at points, but it shows some promise, and if they would have had a year more to get a full MP and SP running you can bet the game would have been better.

It still contains a couple levels that are better than any KZ level in the entire series IMO.

That has nothing to do with inherent bias driven to insane levels.

KZ was generic? A lot of your favorite games someone considers generic.

KZ2 had a huge personality. KZ3 was a rushed sequel but its MP was never generic really.

And KZSF innovated in graphics for launch. The story was bad but story is bad in a lot of games. Generic for sure has been the thing for KZ storylines, but their gameplay makes up for it IMO. I never had a bad time playing the campaigns in KZ games. No worse than anything like Gears or your random COD or BF game.

How awesome it is that the aspect that everyone thought it would be Horizon's biggest weakness (the story) is seemingly being the most praised by the people that got to play it already?

Well it's not really surprising, they hired the writer from New Vegas. Creating a solid story appears to have been one of their main focuses going into the creation of this game. If the story turns out well, good on GG for seeing where their weakness was and hiring someone to take them to the next level.

How many bad games do they have? Their lowest metacritic score is 70, which isn't amazing but is solid to decent at worst.

Seriously, KZSF is NOT a bad game when you play on the hardest difficulty and use ALL of your options.

I am just stunned so many gaffers are apparently bad at gaming. I plat'd the game and while not a masterpiece, and having a really disappointing yet interesting narrative + terrible face animations, it had gameplay that to me was pretty fun. OWL was an amazing device I used all throughout my playthrough.

I also did not have too much trouble with the flying sections. Nothing more than I will have doing some platformer or another action game on hard.

No but GG hired people for that job .
That is not to say the story will be good but it's not the same GG either .
Also some devs break out when they change what from what they normally do .

I don't think Engadget is an outlet that really sets the trend for reviews in general. Their bread and butter is hardware not software. This means very little in determining what the overall score will be.

I mean, considering the circumstances, I think it was easy to see the potential in the product. They've been working on this since 2011, they hired devs experienced with RPGs to aid them in areas they are weak in, previews have been good since announced, internal reviews were good, etc...

Even if that did go over some heads, I think the way the concern is expressed in those threads I linked is what stands out. There are those who can reasonably discuss why they have concerns and then there are those who just run with it and post nonsense. The latter is what I am getting it.
