Gamexplain Explains the Joy-Con Desyncing Problem

you know it would be great... if you know. nintendo mentioned this officially rather than on someones twitter account?

Yes, it would be the best and i agree
But people has to do whatever they can with what they have instead of freaking out if we already know the company won't give a statement at this moment

it's a matter of choice, either you freak out or just wait and see

i get the outrage and concern, but oh well

Doesn't the dual shock 4 use blutooth? I'm pretty sure I can play it just fine behind my back if I wanted to.

I can't play like that for any length of time without the DS4 connectivity degrading. I only sit about 7 feet from the PS4 and even a foot stool or my own legs blocking LOS is sometimes enough to interrupt the DS4 connectivity.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was wireless or other interference AS WELL that caused this problem. I'd be pretty surprised if body parts alone were enough to block the signal to the extent it noticeably affected connectivity.

I was getting very concerned over this and the lack of Bluetooth headsets. I just did a quick Amazon check for 30ft HDMI cables and now I am feeling much better. I play in my bed about 15 -20 feet from the TV. Now I think I will just set up the dock on my night stand. Also that way I will not have to get put of bed once my wife goes to sleep to dock the switch. I know this is totally an isolated case.

Really though, hope they fix this. This is the type of thing that hurts the general message of the system.

Couldn't this be caused by the signal strength being set to a lower setting than it is capable of for power consumption purposes? Seems silly to not allow for variation there when the rest of the console seems so well thought out. I really think an update might be a solution here.

Ideally, allowing users to set their own signal strength would be a thing. When in handheld mode where power is an issue, you could set it low. When docked you could crank it.

Is that a thing? I know little about bluetooth.

Right now, the only people who know about this story are insiders that aren't going to be seriously swayed by any public statement. But making a public statement then elevates the issue to a broad audience issue. If they're genuinely confident saying this will be fixed by launch, they gain nothing by speaking up now.

I imagine if this has hit the mainstream press by tomorrow morning, we get a statement tomorrow afternoon. If it stays an 'insider media' story, we don't hear shit.

If that's the case they should at lease be telling the people that have consoles that this will be fixed prior to launch so they can update that same audience that has heard about the issue.

People have preordered $300 - $500 in stuff that is out in 10 days. There isn't much time left to "wait and see"

Hmmm.... I'm looking at my tape measure now. 10 feet is actually pretty far, much further away than my Switch will be from my couch.

The question for me is, how does it work at 6-8 feet while obstructed?

This is why I said before (this thread or the other) that if this is an issue going into launch it might be manageable if the issue starts appearing when you get further past the 6-8 feet point. Assuming you don't try to really trigger it by covering it completely with human hands.

This is an issue regardless. It needs to be addressed.

10 feet is a good distance when you look at it with a tape measure. Just used mine as well and the distance I usually sit for my systems now is 5 and half feet. I can get at times remove those extra inches and get to just 5ft or below depending how I sit. Some people might think they're further away then they really are. Now if your room is setup so your couch is at the far wall and your TV is at the other far wall. Yeah I can see how that could be an issue. There are a ton of people that don't play like that though. Most setups I would imagine aren't wall to wall in distance. TV to couch or chair or bed or spot on the floor that is usually in the middle of the room.

This is why I really want to know how things are when you're much closer vs further away and wish people would comment on that more.

You're right, but again, the choice is there

nobody is forcing anyone to keep the pre order, they still have time, it would have been worse to find out about this once you received the device

Again, i get it, I GET IT, i get why the outrage and the concern, but people can still cancel their pre orders, so, do it

Could it be the dock that's weakening the signals from the Joycons? Has this error been reproduced with the Switch undocked?

But then why tell those that choose to cancel "stop freaking out" or "calm down"?

Because it's easier to take action than to deal with the whole situation by constantly freaking out

People is freaking out expecting this issue to be resolved, but if it clearly causes an issue, why wait?

Nintendo's communication continues to be terrible. Why do they let situations like this fester? The drip feed of info about the switch has been damaging in my opinion and now this.

I dont remember any of these issues from the moment I watched the first gameplay video. Heck, how many cows were milked and sandwiches eaten without any signs of interference? Seems like an issue with the retail model that could be fixed with an update imo. Expect a day one update, maybe.

Same here, these previews are killing my hype. I'm going to be overloaded with good games this spring as it is. Might as well avoid the emotional rollercoaster that is a Nintendo launch window.

Edit: just cancelled :( will probably still get one later this year, but no sense in getting one at launch given the potential issues and weak lineup (for someone who doesn't care for Zelda)

Given your posting history I doubt you were planning on picking up on launch... But hey we all love adding to the drama sometimes :)

If you don't like Zelda I have no idea why you would buy a Switch. Seems like you are better off waiting.
Yeah I know. I figured I would buy one eventually anyway. But with all these kickass games coming out in March, plus this potential hardware issue, no sense in being an early adopter this time around.

All I could think about was how I'm not going to play the thing when I have Horizon, Mass Effect, and Nier Automata competing for my attention. I feel kind of relieved now.

Actually distance and power signal are related... So.

There are videos of people sitting at reasonable distances creating sync issues with their hands or the grip. The sync issue is not purely due to distance from console, as his tweets would have you believe.

As disastrous as some people on gaf are making this sound the amount of times it happened to members of the press didn't seem that often. It happened but doesn't seem entirely system destroying. I would like to see it fixed though.

Gamexplain experienced it once before doing their test.

Never preorder.

While the shown scenario of covering it like a goon is probably not very realistic, the fact it gets that bad by simply blocking it a bit illustrates it is functioning much worse than it should be. It does not surprise me people have experienced issues if this is all it takes to upset it.

That said I still how can't tell how prevalent the issue will be to each individual.
