Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

And mine...

but surely...something is up.

Even got a tracking number and all. But, err, i dunno? We all got shipped an item simultaneously, from a company with a couple of recent dodgy reviews. Like, this could be a bag of rocks in a tv case. We wouldn't know until we reciewed the package. I the meantime our money is adding interest for someone else.

Order dispatched!!

Am I in the clear?

Mine has dispatched too!

Not quite yet, assuming you've got tracking? Check that I'd say once that becomes valid you're safe.

As seen in their review they have previously dispatched items and then cancelled

Do not buy from this shop, brought a t.v., was dispatched within an hour then a few hours later was refunded and I thought amazon was bad.

They're gonna send us a 21" Bush TV aren't they?

EDIT: Yeah looking like they will still cancel so not getting my hopes up. There is a tracking ID listed in the order description, but when I enter it on the Royal Mail site it says it's not a valid tracking number.

Yeah when you book a delivery you get the tracking, until it's left the warehouse and booked in with Royal Mail it won't show on the system. Hope you guys get them though would be a good result.

If this is systematic fraud, like, whats the endgame? The particular storefront has been generally well reviewed within its niche, so why dump all that for the chance to hold some hundred quid for at short while? Its just...weird.

Has anyone compared the Sony X800D 49" to the Samsung KU6300 50"? Our TV started random reseting every couple of minutes today and those two options are priced the same where I live (Australia). I just don't think I'll be able to see the Sony in person while I will have access to the Samsung.

version 7.0 (Nougat) is coming to both 2016 and 2015 models – and of course 2017 TVs. Sony launched the first Android TVs in 2015.

Version 7.0 will introduce new features such as picture-in-picture, multi accounts, multitasking menu, app recording, better HDR support, Vulkan 3D engine, bug fixes, and more.

It was also confirmed that YouTube HDR is coming to all 2017 4K/HDR models. In addition, Sony will release an update to TVs launched in fall 2016, meaning Z9D (ZD9), XD83, SD80, X80D (XD80), X75D (XD75), and X70D (XD70)

Yeah seems daft that they would try and get away with such transactions, I assume IF they all get cancelled the refund will be processed by Amazon.

X80D / XD80 is this same model.

If Sony's TV engineers are reading, it'd be great if the Graphics picture mode did a 1:9 nearest neighbour upscale for 720p content, just as it does 1:4 for 1080p inputs.

mmm... I was assuming there is Amazon buyer protection/benefits even though it's a market place seller right? As long as I don't get ripped off. I wasn't expecting this to result in me getting a TV (just slightly hopeful) but as long as I don't get scammed.

Is the 43'' a better TV than the 49'' if you don't care about size?

Yes, VA panel on the 43" is better than the IPS on the 49" and above. Viewing angles are better on the larger IPS panels, but black levels and general image quality are better on the 43".

I don't have either, but I think this is the general consensus. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Order still not cancelled

We should know for sure tomorrow. The tracking number not being recognised is relatively normal I think for the 1st 24 hours

I'm in Ireland so my eta is from between the 6th and 9th....fingers crossed

After several months with this TV (the 43" version), I gotta say that it's a terrific display. I use it as a PC desktop replacement as well as for consoles. I don't like that I can't simultaneously output audio to the speakers and optical for different situations, and that I have to do it in the menu, but it's a minor complaint (which has been a thing since their tube Trinitrons decades ago). In terms of build quality, colors, HDR, scaling, 4K, lag, etc., and especially for the price, I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend it if you're in a similar situation.

Gotta cosign this. I was initially worried I may have jumped the gun on a 4K/HDR set, but after using this for a couple months... It really is an awesome TV for the price. Especially great if you are using it as a monitor.

If you had a choice and no preference in size would you rather get the X800D or KS8000? Assuming the the former is the 40 inch with VA panel, the same as the latter.

I will third this so far, although I just got one today. I use it as bedroom TV and to go along with my PS4 Pro. So far, it seems like a perfect compliment to the Pro, as well as for use with a PC. Watching HDR content on Netflix--such as Marco Polo--is an amazing experience. Hard to go back to regular HD after that.

I was also a bit worried about jumping the gun on 4K/HDR, but at 43 inches, 10 bit color and around $650 or less, it has great features and is not a monumental investment. For that I am saving for a 65 inch OLED, and waiting for the technology to advance. I am sold on HDR, I will say that.

PiP at last.

Spent like an hour a few weeks ago searching the menus for it.

As far as I noticed this is not PiP between HDMI input sources, but a PiP between any input source and some Android application [which has to be manually supported by the devs]. This is for watching YouTube thumb window during PC/console/TV use and not for seeing what is happening on some other HDMI input.

Just got PS Vue, loving it. Basic package + HBO just because my bro watches GoT.

Bought the PDP remote, came back, wasn't working that well instantly.

Tried the remote that just came with the TV, it's already working 100% with the PS4, PS Vue, and the TV all at once.

Immediately went back and returned the PDP remote.

I love when hardware integration just fucking works. Brilliant.

You guys think this tv will go on sale soon since the new '17 sony's are rolling out? I mean $650 is cheap already but I can dig it going lower. Also, does anyone use this thing as a dedicated computer monitor? I've got my gaming PC in my room with my PS4 hooked up to a 23 inch monitor on a standard sized desk. I wonder if 43 inches will be too big sitting up close.

I'm trying to figure out where I am going to put this when I buy the inevitable A1E.

I think you could use it as a computer monitor but only if you have that much desk space to push it back a lot. Like 5 or 6 feet at least.

It's probably too big to have just 3 feet from your face.

i think the maths is that for a 43" screen, 3feet is the minimum distance and 6feet is the max.

so with that logic, 3feet would be ok.

you could always try sitting closer to it for a while and see how it looks when playing a game.

So in regards to the clouding on my set, I noticed it changed after I cleaned it. I did some looking around, and Rtings mentions a method using a microfiber cloth to almost "massage" the cloudy portion of the panel. They also say that it's particularly effective if it's an edge lit panel like these. I ended up taking a microfiber cloth and gave it a feather light once or twice over in a circular motion, and it actually worked pretty well. Must be a by product of having such a thin edge kit display...

I really see myself sticking to Android TVs in the future. I love my experience with the X800D. And that is coming from a primarily Apple user.

I wonder if it would be possible to sideload Youtube HDR on to an X800D. I think the X80D is a different model?

Just buy a Shield.

Did you clean it while it was on or still warm?

I did that to my 60" Sony, and it caused dark patches due to the panel overheating in spots that got cold from the cloth, after which I tried to move the blotches off using various methods, ultimately ending up accidentally pushing too hard and having my thumb slip totally destroying the panel. :(

This is why I am in this thread and waiting for a sale on the x800d lol...:(

Well that's a darn shame if true.

From all that you probably missed the most important part

Lastly, Sony confirmed that HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), which is the third HDR format, will come to all 2017 models via an update later this year. Sony did not comment on 2016 models. Update: Sony confirms that the HLG update will also come to 2016 TVs (ZD9/XD83/XD80/SD80/XD75/XD70 and XD94/XD93/XD85/X94C/X93C/X90C/X85C).

This is the standard that will most likely be used by channel broadcasters as it allows them to send one set of information that both HDR and non HDR TV's can transmit. Without this pictures wouldn't look right on non HDR sets and they would need to broadcast on two separate channels.

Make sure enhanced hdmi is turned on in the tv options and your ps4 is connected to port 2 or 3.
also , you can lower black levels a bit.

HDR requires 10 bpc right? Which from what I can see in the Nvidia Control Panel is only achievable at 60fps with YCbCr422. Problem is, text looks like utter shit when I set it to YCbCr422 which is fine when I'm in game, but outside of games it's really distracting. Does that mean I need to manually switch between color formats when I want to play a HDR game or am I missing something here?

X800D btw.

Dammit, still no deals on the 43''. I'll be using it as a PC monitor so the 49'' is too big

Got that covered.. still looks washed out.

Someone here plays horizon? How does the tall grass (for sneaking) looks on HDR? Is it bright and poppy red? Or is it not much different then non-HDR

I had the same initial reaction. I have an x800d.

HDR, in my experience with this set, provides more realistic lighting. I never really got the sense of colors popping vibrantly from the screen with HDR on. What HDR does for me is provide a better sense of depth to the picture. Colors look filled out, deep, but not overly saturated. It makes the image look more like how we would see things in real life.

You can toggle HDR on and off in the settings to compare. When it's off, colors are more saturated but the overall image quality is less vibrant. When it's on the image pops and looks bright... but not overly saturated.

I've only really played one HDR game on PC (Shadow Warrior 2) and this wasn't my experience at all. The difference was so huge I couldn't believe it. So bright and colorful. Maybe it's different depending on the individual games implementation of HDR, I don't know how it works.

Its different for each game, ffxv gives you vibrant as hell colors.
re7 gives you deeper more accurate colors as the above poster said.

no idea about shadow warrior but games like re7 and wildlands enchance light sources and detail around them... ffxv doesnt seem to do the same thing, or atleast not the same way.

Exactly the same model here, I would say leave it as you have it for now, get used to it. I had the same reaction. Ensure its in Game mode, ensure enhanced mode is on for hdmi 2 or 3, leave HDR etc as auto on ps4 and TV, have a fiddle with the colour settings to preference (mine is on warm) and the black settings (mine is on low) - here's the thing though, I say leave it and use it looking 'washed out' for a couple of days and then go back to previous settings and if you're like me you'll see just how garish and over saturated it looks and have a slight epiphany. For years I've had my TVs set to this over colourful look and thought it was right, so naturally when I got this one everything looked a bit washed out; what it actually is is more realistic. The wide colour gamut and HDR stuff is actually a more realistic colour experience, you just need to get used to it. I love how mine looks now it really pops. Witness looks amazing, looking forward to trying horizon tomorrow.

Trust me, when HDR is on, you'll know it.

Ooow sky and everything is bright. Ma grilfriend and myself said "woooooooow". But i just saw it has less effect on lets say 'tall grass'.
It definetly works.. but i want to know if there are good presets to get the best out if HDR on this screen.
Maybe somebody can shares their setting it they feel like they have the correct setting.
