Well, resident Character Extraordinaire Patrick Weekes was the writer on Inquisition. So you can bank on some solid character work.
Sera was literally the only reason I stuck with that game for as long as I did. Not only did her voice actor knock it out of the park, she was also important for the medium - it felt incredibly refreshing to have a female party member (and a major character in general) who isn't designed to look "bangable" by video game nerd standards.
Not trying to nitpick you or anything, but Sera was written by Lukas Kristjanson who was the lead on BGII. Though I agree with you, Weekes now being the Lead Writer for DA and how he handled characters like Solas, Cole, Iron Bull, etc. and his first task as Lead (Trespasser) after Gaider left make me extremely interested in the next game's direction.
The graphics look good as far as open games go and y'all can't seriously be pretending this isn't the best looking custom character + dialogue tech on the market

That is the default character. What is different about the dialogue tree relative to previous games?
Yeah, I think Kristjanson is writing for Liam in ME:A, and Sheryl Chee (Leliana, Oghren, Isabella, Blackwall) is writing for Vetra. Not sure who else, I'm curious who will end up writing which character. I loved what Kristjanson did with Aveline, but wasn't as big a fan of Sera, so I'm curious to see where Liam ends up. I'm also very curious to see what Weekes does with DA from now on, as Tresspasser was great. I loved Cole, Solas, and his ME characters, but I was pretty eeeh on Iron Bull. I will definitely miss Gaider's writing on characters, though, he ended up writing a lot of my favorites.
1: Default just refers to her appearance having been scanned from a real model. Does not change the fact that the animations have to be loose enough to accommodate a huge variety of faces and features for dozens of hours of dialogue without breaking just because you chose big lips and angry eyes and someone else didn't. It is fantastically complex and inherently comes with the downside that animations cannot be tightened to one model perfectly for the mass amounts of dialogue. The animation still has to fit on different faces, so it will be looser than the ideal non-customizable character would be in another game. That is the default character. What is different about the dialogue tree relative to previous games?
"You should be able to use dispensing points to enlist their help." "Sweet! Let's do that!"
Talking to mechanical squid thing, "Thanks there little buddy!"
"Retreival may be impossible." "Ah... Oops!"
"Kalisaria, are you tracking that sweet signal too?"
"A triple share to whoever brings me their sweet implants."
[Evil laugh], "So long, losers."
Ah, so I see why they haven't been leading with the writing and story. All that tude.
Yes, I REALLY played that game for far longer than I would otherwise just because it had a unique character who amused me. This may surprise you, but characters are kind of a big deal in games of this type.Did you REALLY played a game which was... what, a 70 hour game, just because it had a companion who you considered 'important for the medium"??
Bioware makes the worst faces, my god.

I hope they didn't mess up the multiplayer ...
Oh bioware....
Why not at least hide it with a different camera angle? This is terrible
Fucking hell. Terrible writing, pacing, encounter design, facial animations, dialogue and voice acting.
And this is what they chose to show as an example?
That looks like the most boring way to play the game. I guess it reassuring for those who love to sit behind a chest high wall... whoever they are
Goddamn it, I hope there's a way to kill Peebee off, because she's the goddamn worst.
Also, I don't know if it's just the normal difficulty, but the guns seem weak as shit. Not a good sign.
Shooting seems too similar to prior games, boring. You get cover, point the reticle to static enemy and shoot a lacking of feedback weapon.
When will devs realize that not disabling reticle while in cover makes shooting a simple pointing game?.If you disable it you are forced to leave cover to make your shoots and make everything more tactical and realistic.
Can we PLEASE stop nitpicking quick shots holy fuck it's like NeoGAF is a constant version of CinemaSins BUT THESE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING SERIOUS.
For fuck sake.
Haven't kept track on this game, but the player never seems to give directions (position, skills etc) to the allies. Has this been removed?
ShrekBee gets me every time lol. Game looked crisp but this demo was boringly simple. Ryder also sounded like she was speaking to a five-year old tagging along. Let's scan some rocks, isn't that neat? Eh.
Am I the only one who finds the visuals to be pretty average? I expected so much more than a linear Frostbite game designed around 30 fps on consoles, honestly Battlefront looks much better to me.
The dialogue just sounds...off. It's hard for me to describe but it feels too faux clever with no sense of authenticity. Gears 4 had the same feel for me.
What`s the thing with female Ryder in this game? Didn`t almost 90% play as male Shepard in Mass Effect?
They switch between each Ryder in every preview. She just gets more attention from critics.
I feel like the strongest focus has been on female Ryder this time, but I could be wrong. I just think it`s odd when people prefer male.
Yeah it does seem like she gets the videos that have the most content and talking .I feel like the strongest focus has been on female Ryder this time, but I could be wrong. I just think it`s odd when people prefer male.
As expected, we're getting another Dragon Age Inquisition in Mass Effect clothes. Hopefully there will be some redeeming companions like DAI had Dorian for example and hopefully at least the main missions will be great like the fancy assasination party in DAI.
