There will no longer be a Mass Effect: Andromeda Multiplayer tech test

God dammit BioWare, everyone else is doing is tech test for their multiplayer games, Ubi just did two b2b and no one at the team could make time for one weekend to test out the new co-op mode?

I am disappointed, plus that survey took fucking forever. Hell it even asked if you had a GAF account. THEY KNOW WHAT WE SAY, AND STILL NOTHING

SERIOUSLY ? The time I spent sending that fucking survey ?

Even goddamn UBI got the balls to do it despite all their online problems...

For the people who will undoubtedly continue to post the slowed down punch gif, here's the scene with dude Ryder :

The punch connects here, so it could be an issue with the girl because of her size, and it's unnoticeable at regular speed if you're not fixated on a one second loop, so... Can we move on ?

As for the tech test, remember that there's a 5 days early access on Origin and the beta was supposed to be really close to launch anyway, so what's the problem here ? They just have to confirm that the MP will be available too, but it seems that was the case for DA;I. Even PC players will be able to give it a go, while the beta was planned for consoles only. But yeah, let's collectively lose our shit I guess...

As someone who remembers all the gnashing of teeth over ME3 daring to have multiplayer, the gnashing of teeth over a cancelled beta for multiplayer in MEA is kinda amusing

I mean, the gnashing of teeth over ME3s multiplayer was justified, and the gnashing of teeth about ME:A's lack of a test is also justified, so seems fine to me.

There was no reason to believe ME3 needed even a hint of multi, and now several years later when it was proven to be successful, there's no reason NOT to run a test on a new multiplayer game.

I wanted to be so excited for this game but the recent footage looked kinda crap, and now this? Was looking forward to being there day one, but I'll just have to wait on this one for a while.

Pre-ME3, the MP sounded really superfluous and problematic as a concept. But it ended up being excellent and loved, so it is natural people are worried now.

(If someone asks "why not a game without MP at all", consider this: No MP could mean either that EA doesn't greenlight the game, or that game gets considerably smaller overall budget.)

Oh I'm well aware of the context that underpins the two reactions, though I'm not sure I'd use the word 'justified' to describe them.

I just find the situation funny, even with context.

Turns out it was all voiced by Peebee so they've decided against it after the reaction to yesterday's gameplay vid

Underrated post. Or based on that thread, 90% of people still think that's FemRyder with the super obnoxious dialogue and don't get your joke.

Yikes.

I mean, canceling a beta isn't the end of the world, but this is just one more red flag added to the complete mess that has been this game's unveiling and hype cycle. The combat video was great, everything else has been a complete misfire.

Oh well, it's an EA game. Worst case scenario, I can just wait three months and it'll be half price. I have Yakuza, Nioh, and Horizon to tide me over anyway.

Good thing I'll be holding off until I get a new rig, which is near a year off. I still think it will turn out ok, but things like this make it feel off.

The Mass Effect 3 beta test was an absolute blast and made me know that whatever happened to the campaign, the game would still be great to play. I absolutely loved the multiplayer and the support it got, but I had to play it beforehand to put any unease I had about it to rest.

This is the final red flag for me. I'm pretty much done with Bioware archetype campaigns when DA:I reached critical mass, but I was prepared to go through it again if it had another cool multiplayer to go with it. I even didn't consider DA:I atrocious multiplayer to be a factor because the original ME multiplayer devs were making this, but with all the people coming and going, the lack of substantial information for years, the delays, what little they've been proud to show being really lackluster at best, and now this, I think it's time to make the call and just say pass.

two possibilities:
  • biotic punch
  • poorly-animated non-biotic punch

i'm going with the latter, half-speed or no

My bet is m-Ryder is slightly larger and his fist connects, and they just replaced him with f-Ryder and due to difference in size, it misses.

Also yeah this is ominous.

Probably locking the devs in the studio at this point, given the mixed reactions to the game. Can't let it slide out of the fiscal year. Last time that happened it didn't... end so well.

Disappointing, a shame as I wanted to give it a crack as I had a fantastic time with Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, and an understandable red flag for those who wanted to try the combat system and multiplayer framework prior to launch as a factor in whether or not they purchase the game. I can understand that. But BioWare isn't really under any obligation to provide anyone with an alpha/beta test, no matter how indicative of the final product it might be. It wasn't costing anyone anything.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's some important kinks they need to iron out for the launch patch. Bit of a shame. I'm sure there will be some launch issues (pretty much every single multiplayer game has them), I just hope they're not serious enough to delay activity.

wait is this a red flag? This is a red flag. Come on no release day review embargo..

I say this not because I am insane and will pre-order or won't wait for reviews, but because I totally want to have a great space opera game. If I wanted to skimp on resources and still sell a shit ton of games.. this would be a franchise I would do it on...but then after 3...the brand value would be toast. Crossing fingers.

Shinobi recently said that while he doesn't have a date, he has heard the review embargo will be up "well before release date". He also described the feedback from recent mock reviews as "good" and "great" in separate posts, on par with Horizon, for what it's worth.

Just to add a little positivity into the mix.

BUT THE PUNCH DIDN'T CONNECT WHEN WE SLOW IT DOWN TO 9 FPS!! What a horrible game.

You have become a legend by signing up for our Mass Effect Andromeda Multiplayer Tech Test.

Now you can continue to build that legend through multiplayer booster packs and further downloadable content.

It really is a minor thing but lol @ people saying 'it doesn't matter because you don't notice at full speed!'

What annoys me from these animations is that BioWare could have without a doubt fixed them but chose not to give a fuck.

Also, LOL at that Ryder model ^

Plus there will still be the EA Access 10 hour trail, which will release 6 days prior to the game.

I take it the multiplayer is bad? Usually you only don't put out betas if you're afraid of the response they will generate. They're one of, if not the single most successful promotional item in the industry.

It's obviously true that you can also dig through console files for spoilers, but uh, people will do that pre-release no matter what.

I guess it could also just be super buggy and not worth testing in its current state. Dragon Age's multiplayer was rife with issues even post launch.

My money's on buggy. To this day ME3 multi has serious bugs. Still a great multi experience though. I have over 2000 hours in it. (Don't tell my wife.)

Or I mean you could see how the reviews and player feedback from the Origin/EA access turn out instead of deciding this three weeks before release.
Seeing how DA:I got stellar reviews when it came out, I think passing on it for the next six months+ to wait for any potential honeymoon to end and see what people's final verdict is.

Damn, the more I see of this game, the more my hype diminishes. First, the meh combat videos (I mean, the combat looks fine, but it really doesn't seem like anything special to me), and then that awful vid featuring Peeves (A.K.A. Sera 2.0) and now this. Just, damn. Does Bioware not want me to buy this game?
