It is unclear what the patch does yet. Will keep you posted!!!

Edit: It added a DLC menu lol

Edit 2:

According to Dualshockers, the update also fixed the frame rate O.o

It was teetering between a 9.5 and 10, but with the latest update that went live this morning much of the frame drops have been fixed. That was really my one main complaint.

Well it didn't remove the framerate problems. And the framerate is tanking quite often on the docked Switch. Sadly.

You already tried the patched version?

Wait, the Switch version has major frame rate problems too!? I'd heard about it having some minor dips on the plateau, but surely it can't be as bad the Wii U version (sub 20 FPS at times)?

Go watch the Easy Allies review, it gets really shit at times :(

"Major", it's been blown out of proportion on GAF imo.

I'd be fine if Nintendo offered a 720p mode for the Docked version if they can't optimize it any further. I'll take the stability over resolution, probably.

The frame rate drops, but it's more infrequent than on the Wii U, is the general consensus.

WiiU review copies weren't sent out. Quite a few people were probably playing a version off their SD card and USB hard drive, which would tank performance.

From what I played at the switch preview event, wiiu version > switch version. But we'll need digital foundry to confirm.

A couple of reviewers had them, mainly Eurogamer. That said the game dips tend to be based around the effects after the plateau(due to the draw distance), so it's possible the dips were the same but that the people playing it didn't notice in the same spot due to play variations.

The guy from Gamekult who said that the WiiU version had some issues played with an official disc version (Not sent by Nintendo obviously)

Oh nice, I remember hearing on a podcast that they weren't actually sent out, maybe Eurogamer got a retail copy, will read the review, thanks.

---doesn't seem like they mention framerate or the wiiu version in their review :/

Ah okay, but did he play with the update? I remember reading him posting a tweet saying some of his comments were mistranslated too.

All these great reviews are getting me hyped and will maybe even get me to buy a Switch already but the Giant Bomb quick look of the game showed one rough fucking framerate. Dan didn't seem that bothered by it but as a viewer it looked pretty terrible. I hope to God Nintendo can find a way to fix that real soon.

I just did. Holy shit, it looks horrible at times!

Ehhh, not from what I've just seen, man. The GameXplain review made it seem even worse. The game seemed to straight up freeze for 20-ish seconds at one point. It seems pretty bad.
WiiU version is pretty good actually.

It is!? I've been hearing it was way worse than the Switch version. Not sure how true that is going off what I've just seen, though...

It most definitely is. Played the first hour and it was smooth, and I'm a framerate whore, was very pleasantly surprised after trying the switch version at the event and being really concerned.

-- I played it on the gamepad, not TV. Probably won't make a difference but with the comments from others, I wonder if they dropped the resolution for gamepad only. It still looks fantastic on the gamepad though.

The framerate was different at least - when it was undocked felt like at least 25fps+, docked felt like 20fps+ at the event. Not sure if they improved it though.

Thats true. I was thinking of things like draw distance, effects, aa etc.

I thought it mostly stays to locked 30 on both, with dips? Dang....

This was at the preview event a week ago, I'm hoping it's much improved but from what I've read so far from people savvy with framerate... it sounded the same.

Hell maybe this patch also secretly improved framerate and wasn't just a dlc menu.

Thx for the impressions, Skyzard. If the framerate is better on the Gamepad only though, that would be truly bizarre. I can't think of a single game that performs differently on the Gamepad, and AFAIK, it doesn't change the specs or anything like Switch. It's just streaming the game to the Gamepad instead of playing it on your TV.

No worries. And yeah I think it's unlikely but I don't think it's impossible they'd just have to drop the resolution and stream that - you have to select that you're playing on gamepad - and it runs great and looks great there. For the first hour anyway, I didn't run into any rain while I had the chance to play.

Try go back to TV mode and test again...maybe big difference?
