The "my pre order vendor f*cked my Switch release day delivery" thread

Amazon is shipping my Switch with Amazon Logistics instead of UPS. As a result I have no idea where it is because they have no tracking. They say it shipped yesterday at 5 pm, and it should arrive at my house today before 8. But it was also supposed to arrive at my house yesterday before 8 pm, so I have my doubts.

The customer service has been varying degrees of helpful. The first one wasn't helpful at all and offered me a $5 gift card. The second guy extended my prime membership, and told me my package had left the Fulfillment Center in Robinson, NJ. I would hope that means I get it today. I'd be pretty livid if I don't.

The wait is excruciating.

So that's... weird.

The new Amazon app shows when things ship and give you delivery dates. JUST popped up on my phone now saying my Switch is coming in on Monday. Ok, I have a date finally... SOME kind of date in this mess! HOWEVER, they took the Switch off of my Open Orders, and I found it in like, an archived section. It's also still listed as "8pm". Weird.

Has that happened to anyone else?

(Oh, and before I make the post, I get an email following it, saying that the system just "shipped" Ok...)

When an item ships, it's no longer an Open Order. Open Orders are unshipped items that are awaiting stock.

The only thing I don't get is why Amazon is being so inconsistent in how they're refunding/crediting people. Some people getting $5 and some people getting 25% off is ridiculous and basically encourages people to call up and scream.

I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up that my BotW order would magically make it here in time when it went from Phoenix, Arizona to California on it's way to Texas.

This incorrect carrier bullshit is happening in the US as well? Amazon has really fucked up this launch, my god.

Yeah but mine appears in the stack of orders based on the preorder date not the shipping date, took me a while to find it. Be here before 8pm! Again!

Got $15 and and an apology from a cs manager.
I pressed that i can deal with delays but when customer service straight up lies to me is where i have the issue.

First rep told me it was in CT (where i live), next rep said new jersey and that it would arrive no matter what.

Finally got tracking number. Out of NJ and aiming for sunday.

It kind of bugs me how I contacted Amazon CS yesterday and today about my delayed shipment and only received a Prime extension with the agent today. Feels like a lottery when it comes to their response, wish they were more consistent in this regard.

Cancelling my Amazon orders and just going out to pick up the stuff, as EB had plenty of stock. Just not worth the hassle at this point and my wife and I took Monday off to play games. Haha.

I contacted Amazon through their website and sent a terse but polite message asking about the cause of delay. The gist of their response was:
Amazon.com said:
I've reviewed your comments and I'm sorry to know that you didn't receive your "Nintendo Switch" by the estimated delivery date. This usually doesn't happen. Let me help you on this regard.

Upon checking the tracking details, I see that we've timely shipped your package from our fulfillment center however it is delayed in transit by the UPS.

We're aware that our choice of delivery services reflects on our business as a whole, rest assured that I've forwarded this issue to the Shipping department in our company so that problems like this will be accounted for and avoided in the future.
and I got the obligatory free-month-o-Prime out of the ordeal.

It's disappointing to miss out on the launch day excitement, though I know a couple more days is not going to matter in the long run.

Amazon gave me 25% off of my order. It's coming today. I ordered a switch and Zelda when the preorders went live.

Saved about 80 bucks, so pretty much saved more than the inevitable first price drop.

Gotta say I am happy with that! I'm on the east coast USA

What did you say to the customer service person to get 25% off. I'm in the same boat as you, and am thinking of taking another crack at customer service.

Also did you call or use online chat?

I sent an email just now since my chat yesterday got me nowhere. This is one of the many times lately where their shipping has just gone downhill.

There is no list of orders based on the shipping date. Once an order leaves Open Order list, it stays on the main list when you ordered.

Yes, it sucks for items you pre ordered a long time ago, but I don't think Amazon will change it anytime soon.

I preordered from Amazon and I'm in Los Angeles. Status said "by 8pm Friday" until 7:58, when it changed to "shipping with Ontrac, arriving Monday"

Too bad I've got a flight on Sunday, and then another flight to PAX, and won't be back home until the 12th!

Called and they gave me a one month prime extension. Now looking at my Craigslist options -___-

Ordered mine yest during that 4 minute window neon switches went up on amazon prime.. comin today via USPS. Been using my brothers switch, its pretty neat so far.

Just a PSA for those in Seattle, Amazon Books in U village has stock this morning, theres a line of about a dozen so far.

FINALLY got someone understanding last night and while no discounts or extra months of Prime were to be had I got them to ship me one out almost 5 minutes after we disconnected.

Currently in San Jose and making its way up. Will be delivered today. Less than 25 miles away.

Hold on, we're almost home.

Everything from Best Buy came on time. My Pro Controller from Amazon says it won't be delivered until Tuesday... So I spoke with their CS and they're giving me $10 credit + $20 refund. Not bad lol

So according to the USPS tracking number that Amazon gave me, my Switch shipped from Baltimore, MD at about 2:30 pm yesterday and arrived at an Amazon distribution center in Durham, NC at about 10:50 am today.

I live in Richmond, VA.

Why they fuck did they ship my Switch from Baltimore to somewhere in North Carolina? You LITERALLY drove it past where I live! You could've just dropped it off at my house at that point! There has to have been an Amazon center or a Post Office in VA that you could've dropped it off at, you fucking morons!

I flat out said "yeah I heard that Amazon is offering a free month of prime to make up for their mistake. That doesn't really cover it". And then the guy offered $3.99 credit. I talked to a guy this morning and I got offered another $40. It depends on who you get.

I just got an email saying that my whole order has been delayed and they don't know when it'll be shipped. I'm guessing it's going to be next week sometime. Man, so frustrating, because I could have kept my Best Buy pre-order. This sucks a lot. I was hoping to spend a couple of days playing games, but instead I can't do anything. So frustrated.

Wellllll, they say it's gonna show up today even though it has a delivery date of 3/6. It's already at my carrier (FedEx) as of 5AM. So maybe today it'll show? Is FedEx known to deliver early?

Still no update on the order (what is going on or when it will ship/arrive) and still no compensation other than the standard 1 month Prime extension after contacting them 4 times. I imagine at this point they are waiting for more stock from Nintendo.

Out for delivery
Seattle, WA, US

It's 9am. The post office it left from is eight blocks from here. It's due by 8pm.

I am guessing 7:59pm.

I also bet they mix up the packages - Console and Zelda and I get the latter hours before the former.

Looks like my Switch moved out of Columbus overnight. It's now in my city but looks like it's going to sit there all weekend 😫

Yep, it's literally just going to sit in the UPS warehouse all weekend apparently. Anyone know why this would happen? Is Amazon or UPS at fault?

The tracking shows it arrived in my city around 1AM this morning. No reason it shouldn't be out for delivery today.

Canceled my Amazon order. The fact that they were able to cancel so easily shows to me that I didn't actually have one and it was only going to ship once they got a new batch. I preordered 5 mins after the first wave went live in mid January.

What really pisses me off is that customer reps all of yesterday ensured I would get it on Friday. It slowly went from end of the day, to Saturday, to Monday. I escalated to a supervisor and they admitted they couldn't guarantee anything and she was unwilling to give me any estimate. Totally ridiculous.

Never got anything out of the CS people I tried. I don't really get how people were getting these huge discounts on their order, the reps I talked to were basically like "yeah we fucked up but thanks for being an Amazon customer." Any time I get something shipped by Amazon Logistics it's usually incredibly late or in some cases it never arrives. I wish you could pick who delivered your packages, but it would probably be too difficult with the fulfillment centers and all. I just wish they had the foresight to send an email before hand that it would be delayed, it's really dumb that I had to wait for the tracking to update the day it was released to know it was coming later.

Something strange happened.
Okay, so my switch and Zelda are shipped to arrive on Sunday. I was somehow able to get the $20 credit as well as an $85.99 refund on the Switch, through email.
I guess this is worth the wait..

My tip: the email CS guys seem to be able to give you more in terms of delay compensation.

I think it is their policy to give one month of Prime if is late.

Did you outright asking for something? One of the guys offered me $5 (lol) and I said that wasn't enough and I wanted a year of Prime. He said the best he could do was $30. Still an improvement.

I mentioned in my last email that the extended 1 month Prime Membership wouldn't be enough. Here was the response:

Hello,

First of all, I sincerely apologize for the delay in sending your Pre-order item. This usually doesn't happen.

I know how frustrating and annoying the situation can be when something like this happens but believe us it was never our intention. We try our level best to provide convenient and stress free shopping to our customers but in this case we haven't met the standard.

I understand the importance of this order and as member of Amazon Prime you should have received this order by the promised delivery date.

We typically notify customers whenever such delays occur, and I sincerely apologize that you were not notified in this case.

As explained earlier we're currently investigating why this item has not shipped as expected and we'll be sure to email you once information becomes available. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.

I realize this is frustrating; however we aren't able to offer any additional insight or action on this matter.

We appreciate your understanding.

I don't know if they just didn't read the email or choose to ignore the part of compensation or what. I'll try again later tonight if I still don't at least know when my Switch order will ship.

How is there no story on web news outlets? This is a complete cluster of a situation, and there should probably be more public discussion regarding how this is being handled.

When I spoke with Amazon last night, they placed the blame on Nintendo, saying that they didn't release the stock in time. However, somehow Amazon brick and mortar in Seattle is selling units, while the order I placed within 5 minutes of the initial preorder is still delayed with an unknown delivery date.

Yeah, it really seems like the rep you get. I somehow managed to get credited the cost of my Switch and a year of Prime. And the credit for the Switch actually came through last night, so that wasn't a misunderstanding with the Amazon CS rep.

Edit: Though the credit for the cost of the Switch was more of because the rep accidentally cancelled my Prime while trying to do a credit for it.

"Local" amazon courier left this morning at 7:30am. Local being 20 miles away. Not too confident dude is going to make it all the way to my house by the time I get home from work. I might drop by toysrus during my lunch break to test their supplies.

If mine manages to come today I'll try one more time, but I think at this point they've been inundated with emails and chat that they probably just ignore everything and put in a canned response, at least that's how it's been for me. My Prime renewal is coming up pretty soon, we'll see if anything changes.

They had so much stock this morning at Amazon Books. This is totally preorder stock (or part of the reason for "inventory problems")

Good lord. Look at all those pro controllers and Zelda copies too. Amazon clearly prioritized their few stores over online preorders.

Amazon said my order would arrive yesterday and did not. Called them and they assured me it would arrive today. Pre-orderd on the 1st day and I'm Prime member and they still screwed my order.

Because people cave early the minute someone offers them anything for their inconvenience, even if it's just 5 dollars. Call it the hood in me, but I don't play that. I woke up this morning, saw that I will get my Switch/Zelda today instead of yesterday. Whatever, I don't care. It's a extra day wait. I'm in no rush to play a videogame.

But it IS unacceptable, especially since I paid for these items in January, been a prime member since 2004 and received no updates on the shipping process. Read through the thread, saw that people were getting refunds, so I hit up Amazon myself using Chat while watching Stranger Things.

First, they offered me a free month of prime. Pass. Not good enough. Talked a bit more. Then I received a email - they gave me a whopping 10 cent refund for "pre-order price protection." Thank you, you have just strengthened my argument. Raised hell in a respectful way. Ultimately, they gave me 2 months of extended prime and Breath Of The Wild for FREE. Could have got more, but whatever.

Considering that I've paid 150 total for both (gift cards), I can't complain.

Everyone who's still waiting -- Hurry up and contact Amazon before your Switch gets delivered. Make em make up for their F up.

Just a PSA for those in Seattle, Amazon Books in U village has stock this morning, theres a line of about a dozen so far.

I'm tempted to run over there and get one, but eh... I'm just hoping that if A) actually gets delivered to my office today and B) I can actually pick it up from the office today.

Despite saying Monday, out of nowehere my Switch shows up just now. I checked back to Amazon (didn't expect any updates this morning, so I didn't look) and yeah it finally DID update to delivered.

Freaking. Finally. Screw "Amazon assurance", next time I'll just put some money down at my local Gamestop. The guys there are awesome, and I trust them SO much more than this whole fiasco :/ I would've done it in the first place but "eh, Amazon's got it". :/
