The tax credits are not tied to inflation of anything so as premiums go up over time the tax credits do less and less. This also means less people covered.

The aca, on the other hand, tie it a percentage of income so you don't get screwed.

So no matter how much you make, you get the same credit, well unless you're wealthy. Makes sense...The poor can manage as well as somebody that makes 75k

edit: And remember, these new tax credits do not change over time. The ACA's is based on your income as a percentage, not a set amount. So while the ACA premium essentially keeps you paying the same, the new one will get worse every year and premiums rise.

It's too bad that Obamacare didn't include some baseline tax credits to help with the younger crowd. Like everyone gets 2k a year or the scaling tax credits whichever is greater. That would have made it significantly more popular and stable. It would have been expensive though.

I realize they are trying to put pressure on congress by saying they are the bad guys who are breaking Trumps word. All it will take is a few rants on Twitter about AARP and his base will turn on them. The spin is already on about how they are fixing medicare and making it better etc.

They are also hedging their bets with the fact the gutting of it doesn't start until basically after the next presidential election. They are going to try and ram this through with most of the negatives not really being felt until after 2018 election and the biggest stab wounds after the 2020 election

The Affordable Care Act already allows states to make agreements to allow insurers from other states to enter their markets. Few states have done this, because it doesn't actually help bring costs down.
