House Republicans/Ryan Finally Release ACA Repeal (lol) and Replace (lol) Bill

Here's the official website setup for this bill: https://housegop.leadpages.co/healthcare/

At the very top it reads:

Introducing the American Health Care Act
Obamacare is collapsing. Republicans have a plan to repeal and replace it.

This bill will cause women to lose insurance coverage for abortions, from the FAQs:

How will women be affected under your proposal?

Our proposal specifically prohibits any gender discrimination.

Women will have equal access to the same affordable, quality health care options as men do under our proposal.

Will women be able to purchase a plan that covers abortions?

No. Our proposal is consistent with the bipartisan Hyde Amendment, which does not allow taxpayer dollars to go toward funding an elective abortion.

The tax credits are not tied to inflation of anything so as premiums go up over time the tax credits do less and less. This also means less people covered.

The aca, on the other hand, tie it a percentage of income so you don't get screwed.

Whatever mess of a replacement they end up implementing, I just hope once it becomes law and starts fucking people over, republicans will be held accountable come election time.

If they get a pass for this the way they got a pass for their government shut-down tantrum, I honestly won't know where to go from there.

So no matter how much you make, you get the same credit, well unless you're wealthy. Makes sense...The poor can manage as well as somebody that makes 75k

Edit or maybe I'm reading it wrong. Bed time for me as well.

It's based on your age.

Then it hits a cliff at $75k.

edit: And remember, these new tax credits do not change over time. The ACA's is based on your income as a percentage, not a set amount. So while the ACA premium essentially keeps you paying the same, the new one will get worse every year and premiums rise.

It's too bad that Obamacare didn't include some baseline tax credits to help with the younger crowd. Like everyone gets 2k a year or the scaling tax credits whichever is greater. That would have made it significantly more popular and stable. It would have been expensive though.

This isn't trying to find a middle ground, this is salting the Earth.

Honestly the American Republicans have me way confused. I'm not American, but I've been around since the Bush years to wonder what is even the point of this party. It seems like everything about these guys is smokes and mirrors, and spinning to maintain a perception. But doing any actual legwork is another thing.

Have they done, or even tried to push for anything remotely beneficial to anyone other than themselves? This is a serious question.

It's really fucking sad that this is the Republicans version of "trying" to find a middle ground.
It's pretty difficult to create a more conservative healthcare plan as effective as the ACA when the ACA is already a conservative Republican plan and most of its problems stem from that!

Rich people. Their sole purpose is to reduce taxes an regulations for rich people.

AARP can get fucked. They have been running ads on Foxnews etc. How Donald Trump is a hero who will protect Medicare etc.

Fuck them. They got exactly what they asked for. Their only protest is the Age Tax not that the bill is shit

Talking about this?

http://thehill.com/policy/healthcar...mpaign-urging-republicans-to-protect-medicare

It's called taking people to task on their word. It's the same tactic bernie is using to hold trumps feet to fire.

Pro Tip: AARP knows how laws are actually made.

Picking a fight with Obamacare was a ridiculous idea to begin with. It was basically designed as a capitalist Republican-friendly health care plan from the start. They're not going to out-free market a plan that was crafted to appease them without fucking a lot of people over.

So that is what you were talking about. Guess I must have missed the "hero" part.

I realize they are trying to put pressure on congress by saying they are the bad guys who are breaking Trumps word. All it will take is a few rants on Twitter about AARP and his base will turn on them. The spin is already on about how they are fixing medicare and making it better etc.

They are also hedging their bets with the fact the gutting of it doesn't start until basically after the next presidential election. They are going to try and ram this through with most of the negatives not really being felt until after 2018 election and the biggest stab wounds after the 2020 election

In recent years they have voted to repeal Obamacare almost 70 times, tried to ban abortion almost 50 times, passed Voter ID laws at the state level to make it harder to vote, gerrymandered the shit out of states that were competitive to ensure they always would have a majority, dragged the entire political center of this country to the point where Reagan looks like a Moderate Democrat at this point, and 6+ years hamstringing everything Obama did.

The short answer is no. They are the party of "Personal Responsibility", which means it's not their job to help you. <Snip, flubbed a quote>. They consider Government to be an inconvenience and want to destroy it from the inside out. So anything that helps people and is popular--Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, EITC, TANF, SNAP, even Obamacare at this point--has to go because otherwise people won't let them burn the place to the fucking ground.

The short answer is no. They are the party of "Personal Responsibility", which means it's not their job to help you. It was once said "It's not what you can do for your country, it's what your country can do for you" and I believe Republicans have been running the exact opposite of that since the 80's.
Your point is otherwise spot on but you messed up the Kennedy quote, it's "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

They're pretty bad at that too though since they crush communities and dehumanize their own fellow citizens though.

So:

AARP can get fucked. They have been running ads on Foxnews etc. How Donald Trump is a hero who will protect Medicare etc.

Fuck them. They got exactly what they asked for. Their only protest is the Age Tax not that the bill is shit

Their "only" protest is the the protest that affects the people they represent.

FOH

I don't even have words on how this is a total cluster. When we move two steps forward we get slapped 15 back. I keep re-reading the posts and I can't find a positive, sadly I'm not a CEO...

It's really fucking sad that this is the Republicans version of "trying" to find a middle ground.

Why in gods name do you think they give a shit about finding a middle ground. This is a party that has proven time and again that they are only interested in themselves and the even wealthier people who make them wealthy. That this party is even allowed to exist and half of these scum bags aren't in prison is something people in the future are going to be reading a lot about.

I remember the days when I was a naive kid and used to look up to America. Goddamn, I was such an idiot back then.

The fact that bills like this are even considered is pathetic. Leaders of the Free World my ass. The fact that a major political party has such disdain for the lower class of a country is nothing more than horrendous and despicable.

Ah yes, I messed that up, good catch. Removed it as my point still stands without those 2 lines. It's 1am and I'm at work so my mind isn't the sharpest it's ever been. You could definitely argue that they are the Anti-Kennedy Party at this point though. They don't seem to care about do anything to actually help this country, but rather everything in their power to help a select few amongst us.

America's obsession with making life better for the rich because people think one day they might be rich is fucked up.

Do something for the poor ffs, most of you are poor and will remain poor for not just your lives but the generations that follow too.

Oh yeah they definitely do not represent that statement either, it's the "fuck you and you should probably die if you're poor" party not "what you can do for your country."

It will die in the Senate and be fastened around Paul Ryan's neck as a symbol of the rotting corpse his policies are and have always been.

Just incredible. Thanks for taking a minute to lay it down.

I look forward to the follow up articles on the Trump supporters that were dependant on the ACA who wanted it repealed because of its given nickname.
