The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT| A Link from the Past

For people playing this on a 4K TV: how does the IQ hold up? The 900p resolution concerns me, isn't it blurry as fuck?

Coming off of the PS4 Pro, it's immediately jarring to boot up Breath of the Wild. The difference in resolution is extremely noticeable and detrimental. You might be surprised exactly how much detail you are unable to see.

But you also get used to it very quickly. After a couple of hours, you become accustomed to it and stop noticing. I imagine it would be much worse if you were playing multiple games at once - one at higher resolution and Zelda - but nobody should be doing that because Zelda is an addiction.

Some TV settings that really help get the most out of the picture...

1. If it's not already, put your Sharpness at 0. The game has no AA at all and it's really exacerbated by added sharpness. The jagged and shimmering edges are not worth the minor extra clarity. There's also no ambient occlusion like Bloodborne, so you don't need sharpness to counteract the blur.

2. Set your color to Warm 2. Zelda is a very colorful game of decidedly few colors. To make the most of them, avoid cool tones that will mute the landscape. I am a bonafide cool-tone calibrator, but the warmer the better with Zelda. There's a lot of haze that yellows the picture and a warm setting helps those colors break through.

3. I personally put my saturation at 65. I normally never touch saturation and theoretically it should always be 50, but the extra intensity makes the image pop a little more. 65 is the absolute highest I would put it and you may still choose something lower.

4. Lower your brightness. There's a white level to the image that's already very high. Keeping your brightness on the same level you played RE7 or Nioh will make the game look extremely pale.

In my opinion, these settings will make the game look how you expect it to. But it will never look as good on your TV as it does on the tablet.

Just made it to the first village
Kakariko
I can't believe they still re-used that sidequest
Find all the chicken

Is there any other quest I missed i nthat village ? There's also this orb thing in Impa's house but she doesn't let me take it, I assume you bring it to the pedestal in the forest.

This game is kicking my ass. I totally suck at the combat and even after almost 20hrs I'm still having issues with the controls.

I'm loving the experience but I feel somewhat ill equipped or something :/

I have full climbing gear now, but all of my shields are broken XD

The 3 armed tiny guardians are no joke.
I couldn't get the timing for the laser

Just got to Zora's domain, very cool.

I don't understand how a race that lives in the water can be so constantly thirsty though

OK I have a silly question I would like to ask how can I find something to hit on? I mean I can't find any piece of wood or anything.new page I just got this game today and I'm already struggling

You can upgrade armor a second time, I believe there is a third that can upgrade it a third time too.

Yeah but the first can upgrade your stuff too twice.

I found 3, i paid 500 and she does exactly the same as the first one AFAIK. Then i found another that wants 1000 rupees. Fuck that...what's the difference between them?

So what's everyone favorite/least favorite region so far?

My favorite is probably Akkala, when I first arrived during a storm it was hell on earth, but after finding a stable and waking up the next day, it was beautiful. Warm colors, plenty of space for your horse to run around, and Death Mountain in the background at all time, now that's what I call cozy.

Just came here to say this is the best game i played since Half Life 2, hands down GOTY 2017.
Now i gotta go back to my Switch, bye

I'm pretty sure the more you free the more you can upgrade, since I've only freed 2 I can only upgrade twice but I'm pretty sure there is a third one that allows a third upgrade. The 1000 rupee one isn't a normal fairy though. It's a
horse god.

How good / convenient would it be if you could drop swords / shields from the d pad menu, rather than going into inventory and going drop. Seems like an oversight, especially in a game where you are juggling weapons and durability consistently...

There are acouple more things to do there but some of them open up over time.

I've asked this a couple of times and haven't gotten an answer: but does anybody know what materials make crimson dye? I have lots of red things but I'm still told I don't have enough for that color. It's really bumming me out.

If you want to get rid of a sword, just throw it away.

Has anyone 100%'d this yet? It doesn't seem like many have even beaten it yet. I only just did a dungeon, but I'm at around 50 shrines.

Why exactly though? Doesn't seem any different from the first one.

There's 4 Great Fairies. Unlocking each one lets you level up your armour one extra stage. I've got all 4 but I don't have the drops yet to bring any of my items up to level 4.

Once a weapon is Badly Damaged, throw it at an enemy in combat for a nice big damage attack so you'll free up a slot and hurt the enemy at the same time.

The armour mushroom ones (sorry, don't know the English name) do the trick, if I remember correctly.

Oh wow, ok thanks!

Armor mushrooms... but those are black, aren't they? The ones I'm thinking of are called Ironshrooms in English. That's the mushroom that raises defense. Is there another one I'm not thinking of?

Thank you for trying to help - especially with the localization barrier.

How did you farm the rupees to unlock the last farie?

I spent a lot of time up mountains bombing gem deposits in my exploration. I sold most of my spoils because at this point I wasn't too bothered about crafting any of the accessories. Yeah, I sold my diamonds and it was worth it. Now the biggest expense in the game is gone and I can hold on to anything else I find (until I want to buy the house).

Let me check... I'll edit when I have the answer.

EDIT: My bad, it's the "blade mushroom". Other I have that work are "bird seed" and "stamina frog".

You don't actually have to throw it for a critical do you? Just hitting anything will make it critical if it breaks.

I was paragliding into
a foggy area and was ported away from it. What's the deal here? I thought this game was truly open!

Better solution, but not as fast as 'You have no room to have this weapon' - bring up quick dpad weapons and dropping them in that quick access menu option. Still this will help me thanks.

Can anyone confirm whether or not gems like Ruby, Topaz etc are used for upgrading or buying anything? I originally sold a lot of them when I had no money then I started holding onto them but I don't see the point if they don't do anything until ever or until much later in game.

Oh man, somehow sold my climbing bandana...sad face.

Oh shit :(

Meanwhile, i just got my climber's 'capri pants' and i'm happy as a clam.

There is a vendor somewhere that lets you buy back these items, i believe. right?

i bought the piggyback book, mostly for the reason to have a 'recipe compendium' and i was expecting there'd be some kind of "Diamond -> needed for X Y and Z, crafted into A,B,C" or something like that. Nothing. Sadly, we'd have to wait for the various Zelda wikis to be populated to have any kind of proper list of materials :/

Thanks. This should be in the OP.

Got a
guardian shield
from the north east place.

Used it on the
flying
guardians in the
labrynth
north of where I got it from.

Question:
It was very expensive. Will it break? Do you know how many laser blasts it can withstand if it does break?

Yes, they are used to upgrade some armours.

I can imagine that would make sense if it was the Lost Woods.

You can sell them but they are used for certain accessories and upgrades. But there's always more if you keep an eye out for deposits.

You can use them for crafting in Gerudo City.

Lost Woods, you have to go in a certain way
