Why would a metal weapon pulse like that though? I could understand if I was struck by lightning that having a metal weapon equipped would be bad. Thought maybe something in my inventory was have an elemental reaction to the lightning.
The weapon is not exploding. You are attracting the lightning and then being fatally struck. The pulsing is there to warn you that you are attracting the electric charge.
If you die from this, pay attention to the hint that displays on the loading screen afterward. They are always (from my experience) contextual to why you died and how to avoid dying that way in the future.

So, with how overwhelmingly positive the reception to this game has been, can we all just admit the Zelda cycle was bogus, laugh it off and never speak of it again?

This is actually how it works in real life. If you are about to get struck by lightning you have a few seconds to notice a tingling sensation occurring around you before the bolt hits.
man really? They are a cheap way to blow things up like mineral deposits and boxes you don't want to waste sword swings on. I also found they can stun.
They're pretty good for crowd control and situational use in battle, besides mining minerals and taking down trees without wasting your weapon's durability.
Bombs are more helpful than they've ever been. You can use them to open crates/boxes, blow up ores, distraction/damage in battle, etc. All with no supply issue.
Can anyone offer any tips for getting better at combat? I'm finding myself getting one-shotted constantly, and this might be because I hardly have any armor--but this is because I almost never have any money. In general, I find it extremely hard to effectively dodge enemy attacks, and I'm often spotted from a pretty long distance, ruling out stealth.
If you're good with your arrows and get better with dodging, fights get way easier. Try and take advantage of the environment as much as you can. If it's rainy, use shock arrows (you can use magnesis on enemies who are shocked) if you're in long grass use fire, the flames will also give you the opportunity to glide into the air so you can get a slow motion critical hit.
Don't jump headfirst all the time.
But yeah, you should get good with the dodge, once you do, the battles are pretty easy.
Blow up rocks to harvest ore
Kill rock enemies
Fishing
Trigger switches
Use in conjunction with stasis to save your weapons
Blow up barrels and boxes
Knock down trees
I've used them in at least 4 Shrines in lieu of boomerangs. Also, to break walls and to drop on enemy camps close to cliffs (to send enemies flying to their deaths.)
Wait what?! They are really useful! I'm constently bombing enemies from above taking already a good chunk of damage before jumping down and finishing them! Furthermore, you can use them to bomb the trees, so you never have to use your weapons to get a Krok leaf again!

The only game that ever had a big turnaround in public opinion was Wind Waker because of the awful reaction to the reveal and then how well the visuals aged so well with time.
There's a group of Zelda fans for every game who dislike it, but it's not like their opinions change as a new reveal comes out, it's just which group people decide to listen to changes. That's all it ever was.
The Zelda game I've always disliked, for example, is LttP. Disappointed me on release day as a huge fan of the first two, and disappointed me every time since. Proof that fir every Zelda game no matter how sacred you'll find a group that doesn't like it.
I use them constantly to destroy crates or ore deposits. No way am I wasting my weapon durability on a crate full of apples and arrows. I also use them to cut down trees since I don't usually have an axe.
I also use them in almost every combat situation. They're perfect for destabilizing enemies and stopping an aggressive pursuit. I don't know what I would do without them.
During the maraca quest where you have to kill the bokoblin, one fell off the enormous cliff and survived the fall. If I followed it down, I wouldn't be able to get back up because it was a massive flat rockface. I ended up dropping bombs all the way down and blowing him up. It took a whole bunch of tries because it was so high up and you could barely see him, but it was the only way I could have cleared that little encounter without leaving the map I wanted to be in.
? Any tips to get them? I tried last night with my 8-bit Link and I'd just get different types of arrows even if I reloaded my save. The day before I just got a shield.
More often than not, I have bombs set to L. They're great to defeat octorocks, or to scatter enemies if you have too many approaching you are once. There's also a few shrines and chests that are hidden behind bombable walls.
So I beat the game. I had the following parameters:
-3 hearts
-Full stamina
-No main missions finished
-Upgraded armor
-Used all the healing items and 2 fairies (lol)
Like... despite being well equipped and spamming all the items, that shit was pretty hard.
In particular, the boss was interesting because
I had to fight like 4 phases before Calamity Ganon... and the last half of that final phase before the boar version was pretty tough because I had to utilize slow motion in order to hit it during the brief second it lets its guard down, so I had to channel my inner Bayonetta skills to get those crucial slow-mos.
I am very curious what this boss fight is like if you actually do the
4
relevant main missions and actually get the
Master Sword
...
So of course I'm still gonna mash the game lol
Having played around a bit in post-game content, I noticed that, because I wasn't doing any of the missions, I was missing several integral functions for the slate thing >_>
I'm under the impression that the freeze enemy thing would have made the last half of Calamity Ganon less miserable lol
But yes... playing the way I did was very interesting in that I could observe how flexible you can be with regards to playstyle... you could literally just finish the tutorial then walk up to the final boss (and even put up a decent fight since damage output is tied to gear)... it's not easy, but it's POSSIBLE, which is very impressive.
In fact, Hyrule Castle itself is designed really brilliantly since I had several approaches in order to make it from the field outside to the boss layer.
(rain can fuck off though... I kept getting trolled... also, watch out for blood moons... that shit will actually boot you out of the boss fight and restart it from the very beginning and it was completely miserable)
Overall, very pleased with the game and I'm still really hype about playing now that I've discovered the compendium thing :v

I guess I don't find them all that fun or useful. Too cumbersome to shift your abilities, press L, press A or R, then press L again. Then wait for the cooldown. Would rather use bomb arrows.
They're required in the main quest several times. There are dozens of bomb points and a few shrines that require them. They're good in a fight, good for mining ore and excellent against flying guardians.

Farosh is kind of the same (not really Dinraal though since his don't go off his body) I think that once it leaves them it just moves towards people on its own and that's why nobody gets close

Guys, I need help with a very crucial decision (lol)
I really want to be wearing a traditional tunic, and so far I haven't found it in the game. I know you can have a chance at unlocking some through Amiibo, but I haven't opened any of my Amiibo apart from Smash Bros. Mario and Link. I used the Link one already without knowing you got Epona, and lost her because I just didn't even think about registering her at a stable. And I don't even think I was close to one.
Anyway, I have a share of Amiibo still in the packaging, but I really want to take them out and use them on this game just to see what all I can get. I've seen some really cool Amiibo display with them taken out of the package and was just wondering what everyone else thought about doing this, if I should keep them packaged or if it'd be cooler to take them out, actually use them in games and come up with a neat display for them all.
