PS4 Update 4.5 is coming tomorrow, details inside

And yet people calling this abomination (control wise) of a game best since sliced bread, how can that be? cause i tired 10x times to play it and its just impossible unless you are masochist and enjoy being tortured...

New Zelda has framerate problems and had 98 metacritic. Bloodborne is far from impossible, and controls very well, even with framepacing issues, enough of the hyperbole.

Can anyone tell me whether you have to specifically format external drives to work with the PS4?
Like, I have one dedicated the to WiiU, which sucks, it'd like to store other data in there too, not just games.

The notification area is horrible now my god....

Why?!

The rest is good so far but ya wtf not even being able to delete notifications

People still use notifications?

Looking forward to seeing a list of legacy games that are improved and which are not.

I had a scare before, power shorted out while a disc was been inserted into the drive and files where writing to external drive. Said External Harddrive needed too repair i got paranoid AF.

Yup, the new notifications system is ass.
There was nothing wrong with the old one, and I liked my uploads, downloads etc separated.

Other than that nice update, I like the new particle themes too.

People still use notifications?

Yes.
What are you even getting at with that question?

you are entitle to your opinion...what with free speech and all.......but you are wrong.

The notification list is consolidated into one list? Why is this bad? Phones do the same thing. It does seem odd to not let us clear it, but that's hardly a deal breaker IMO. You just have to remember where you left off?

I'm really pleased that we can set wallpaper backgrounds without buying themes now! Been waiting for that since the day I bought my PS4 can't believe how long it has taken.

Just spent an age taking photos in Uncharted 4 in 4K to set as wallpaper, looks amazing.

I'm so glad we don't feel the same way about games. Good lord. Imagine saying this about fucking BLOODBORNE

You can still delete uploads and downloads within the notification list.

Really not getting all the outrage over this. (Maybe because I don't get all that many a important notification?) I do agree that it is worse, though.

Boost Mode is fairly underwhelming. Don't get me wrong -- it's nice that it tends to improve lots of games by providing more of constant 30fps where there were dips before.

On the other hand I thought you'd get more games jumping to 40-60fps but that's really not happening. I should have known since it's just increasing the CPU and GPU clock to full speed and not doing much of anything else with the CU's etc

It's a nice feature and I'm glad it's there, but if I didn't have a Pro, knowing what I know now I would not be running out to buy one because of this.

Has anyone checked if the Rest Mode issue has been resolved when using extended storage, and if it's possible to update applications on the extended storage while in Rest Mode, without having to repair the drive after the console leaves Rest Mode?

Jesus, is this update really that big of a thing? My PS4 hasn't been able to connect to PSN since at least yesterday night. This is the first significant 'PSN is down' situation for me in years.

I was surprised at the notifications section too. but it makes sense...
you wanna be notified at loads of things at once. i hated scrolling down to downloads.

Really they shoulda just had an option to have it both ways.

It's one of PS4's major updates. edit: PSN isn't down btw not sure whats wrong.

I mean, aren't most games locked at 30fps? They cant go above that.

All they had to do was allow me to clear it. Why remove that?

I only really look at downloads in the notification area so it's not too bad for me (I wouldn't mind being able to set it to boot right into the download list) but in terms of functionality and design, they definitely made it worse for the general user.

I understood your feeling but some game like Lord of Fallen, Sleeping Dog and AC Unity have impressive boost in their performances. I'd like to see some of more impressive improvement on JC 3 (though it's still noticeable) or The Evil Within , but terrible port hardly can be magically fixed with this, without a dedicate patch. The only exception it's just Unity for now.
In all honesty, personally, it's the major feature I have waited for and it's the whole point around this hardware. I really hope in the future Sony will find a way to use all the CUs and continue to work on it, for the better.

Then you either really misunderstood the mode or had unrealistic expectations from it.

They're not gonna unlock frame rate for all games capped at 30 FPS. Boost Mode helps tremendously in ironing out performance and making sure 30 FPS games adhere more strictly to it's target and 60 FPS games to theirs.

You can now enable your ps4 as main even if you have not deactivated the other one.

This helps because there were fraud cases and now digital shares are harder.

Not the first time they've butchered a part of the OS either. I'm sure most don't even use the Hidden Games section like I do, but a few updates back they completely ruined that too. And they've done nothing about it since.

You're likely expecting this in games that are capped at 30fps.

That really is a great feature. I went to the PS4 browser hunting some great pics gamers made of Horizon and could use these as background. Lovely stuff.

Cross-posting in case this thread has more traffic!!

Ok, so ive looked at the cheapest HDD's I can find that are 2 or 3TB.

Can someone recommend a good one from the following.

Keep in mind I dont really know much about HDD's.

I just want it to perform well, be compatible with the ps4 and be reliable.

The cheapest 2TB i could find is $99 (AU)
Toshiba 2TB Canvio USB3.0 Portable Hard Drive

The cheapest 3TB is $139
Toshiba Canvio Ready 3TB Portable Hard Drive Black

Some other 2TB HDD's
Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable Hard Drive

WD Elements 2TB Portable Hard Drive

WD My Passport Ultra 2TB Portable Hard Drive (Blue)

Also does it make a difference whether its got a power unit or not?

I read that wd hdds are usually more reliable than others.

With the addition of external drive support, what would be a good SSD size for an internal? 250 seems too small, 500 seems reasonable, 1TB seems like overkill for the price? Trying to get the best bang for buck on performance increases from the OS and usable games on SSD. Plan on putting an 2TB external HDD to store games that aren't in use or move around from internal to external as needed. Looking at picking up a Pro very soon with a 500 SSD, if you have an SSD currently what are you thoughts. Thanks in advance.

That would probably have to come on PS5 if they can clock the GPU that high by then.

I use the WD Elements 2tb and have never had an issue, and is what I just hooked up to my PS4 Pro. It's fairly cheap on Amazon.

I might even recommend going with the 3tb as it's around the same price as a lot of 2tb drives elsewhere.

Something seems wrong with my update. I didn't know that there was an update, but it downloaded while I was at work , I go home to play and it says to use network features I need to install the update. I go to install the update and it says it is version 1.21, but the notes are for version 4.5..what? I back out, and go to the update system option in the system settings, and see 4.5, but I get some type of error. I try to delete the update, and download it again but I can't...........b/c I can't use network features until I install the update, but the update file must be corrupted or something. What to do?

Edit: I'm on a PS4 Pro if that matters.

So are also External SSD compatible? :O
Is there a real advantage on loading times?
I might consider to buy one!

You're honestly better off going for a traditional high capacity external hard drive.
You'll be wasting your money with a SSD, as not only will you continue to have low capacity, but the PS4 wouldn't really take advantage of the speed benefits.
