PS4 Update 4.5 is coming tomorrow, details inside

I was hoping to install everything to an external hdd, including game saves and settings etc, and trade up to a Pro. I've just bought my new hdd and I'm copying my games over now...but it won't copy over game saves or profiles. It seems completely pointless then tbh and I should have just bought an internal hdd. Microsoft's implementation was much better. I can just take my hdd to a friend's house; sign in on my profile, and have full access to everything

I liked the old notifications menu much better, is there a way to get the old one back?

Nope. Hopefully Sony see the error of their ways and reverts it. I really don't understand why they felt the need to 'simplify' it in the first place. It was perfectly fine as is, all they've done is taken functionality away.

It's not quite as seamless as on xbox but you can upload your saves to the cloud like with the xbox. You can back saves up on USB as well.

Do a full back up and it will transfer all of your stuff.

You have been able to 'back up' everything for transferring to another console for ever, well before this update. The option is in system settings. The way you are trying will just format your drive when you plug it into a new console so is pointless.

I'd like to hear the reasoning from the buffoon who thought the notifications layout was a good idea.

Is boost mode for Soma still broken?
It might never have been broken. All we have are anecdotes from GAF members, the first couple of which said it crashed. Since then, multiple people have said it doesn't crash. It's not clear whether the crashes were unrelated to Boost Mode, were only present with the beta firmware, or still happen but are just intermittent enough that some folks didn't run into them.

Is there a list somewhere?
Yes, I list improved games, games reported to have no improvements, and games reported to have problems over in my Pro enhancements thread.

So I don't know if this is a new thing, but when i was updating No Man Sky...I paused it, then resume (sometimes that helps with speeds)

but to my surprise it started the download from the beginning each time...instead of you know "resuming".

Sorry to repost just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/insights on this.

Struggling with my new external SSD (Samsung T3 250GB).

I have it hooked into the rear USB, formatted and transferred Horizon onto it. Game's playing great, I'm getting all the expected loading time boosts, but... when I exit out of the game and put the Pro into rest mode, when I boot it back up, it tells me I "failed to disconnect the external storage device" and it needs to repair it. It doesn't seem to do any harm, but the initial PS4 boot takes much longer and I'm worried it will do damage to the SSD.

Any advice? Do I have a setting wrong? I'm really hoping I don't have to disconnect and re-connect the SSD through the PS4 menu every time I want to use it :(

Anybody having problems with Youtube Upload? It just doesnt sign in for me and when it does it doesnt upload.

I had this issue a few days ago. It resolved itself after I deleted the Youtube app, restarted the system, then redownloaded the youtube app.

No idea if that really fixed it, just know that I was able to upload again after doing this....

Will try this.Thanks.

Now we need an update to utilize the extra CUs in the PS4 Pro for beast mode performance.

I could be wrong but I don't think this is how console games work. I think it would require a patch to the software itself (for each game), to recognize the extra CUs, which is basically what the Pro Mode patches are to begin with.

I could be wrong though

Updated with HDD+boost times (redid the GTAV no boost time because it was on a different patch):

(PS4 Pro | Stock HDD vs External SSD (Mushkin Reactor 500GB))

Horizon (timed from hitting Continue until the screen fades in)
56.13s HDD -> 32.57s eSSD

Destiny (from hitting "Launch" until "Tower Plaza" appears on screen)
80.16s HDD -> 64.64s HDD+Boost -> 51.55s eSSD -> 45.51s eSSD+Boost

GTA V (from "Loading story mode 0%" until fade in)
55.11s HDD -> 48.77s HDD+Boost -> 33.98s eSSD -> 21.75s eSSD+Boost

I honestly prefer to have the SSD as external instead of internal, until the OS supports the TRIM function. The PS4 runs a modified FreeBSD OS. FreeBSD started supporting TRIM commands in 2011. Might be supported soon, might be never.

I'm done with benchmarks, back to bow fishing and hunting skinless/boneless animals in Horizon.

I've been hoping DF, or anyone, compares the same HD plugged in externally vs internally.

This isn't the perfect comparison, but I figured I would time my "continue" in Horizon vs yours. I have a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB SSD internally in my Pro. From "continue" to "screen fade" it took 36.62 for my load, compared to your 32.xx with the external setup.

Hope to get some more direct internal vs external (of same HD being tested) comparisons from somewhere, but this tells that there seems to be good possibility of just overall speed improvements with external setups

Something weird is happening with a Samsung 1TB external drive that I have for ages (it's USB 3.0). My ps4 recognized the drive normally, and I even transfered some games and everything was working fine.
When I turned it on from rest mode, it said that my drive was corrupted. I reformated it again on my Mac and now my ps4 gives the message telling my drive is not supported! Even after formatting drive on my ps4, afterwards it still says it's not supported. But I can still copy video files to this external drive on my ps4.
Anyone with a similar problem?

Something like this would work for the internal, right? Only other question would be regarding putting it in there, IIRC the PS4/Pro has that mounting bracket but it also would work with the SSDs, right?

I use the 850 1TB EVO internally. Have had it in there for probably about 6 months.

Old school vanilla PS4's the SSD will just fit right on the HD bracket.

Slim and Pro have input reversed (or upside down), so you can fit it on the bracket but you have to use a little extra effort because it doesn't lay on the bottom of the bracket, the screws are at the top so the SSD ends up being suspended in mid-air, basically.

It'd be going in the Pro, but as long as it fits it's fine with me even if it takes a little bit more work.

Just wanted to make sure it at least worked and it wasn't wasting money on the drive getting it for the Pro.

Thanks for your help! :)

Hmmm, the last three times I tried to shut down my PS4, it takes a while before beeping three times and then shuts off like normal.

I then disconnected it from the internet before shutting it down and it shut off normally. Guess it's like a network issue or something causing the system to stall? I used to have this problem months ago but it was fixed like 2 firmware updates ago.

Anyone have an endless loop of logging into YouTube?

Go to upload footage and get asked to link the services. Enter the login details, allow it on the YouTube page that comes up... next screen is where you choose which service to upload to... choose YouTube and the exact same thing happens.

This happened to me and seemed to get fixed when I deleted YouTube app, restarted console, and then downloaded YouTube app again. Not sure if it's a real coincidence or not but the YouTube loop stopped after

The first Sherlock Holmes game seems free of tearing, finally. I can't enjoy with it on ps4, I heat with all myself the tearing issue in this game. I will test Outlast first or later. Very curious about it.

Super happy with the update. Cant wait to open my Unity copy :)
Yeah fps is definitively fixed. But not the input lag. It's impossible to enjoy with it especially during the combat. Unfortunately boost mode it's useless. I hoped the cause was just the terrible fps but it's not.

Well this sucks - you can only have one external HD operational at once. I bought a 2TB HD and a 256GB SSD and wanted to use the SSD for my games in my current rotation. Crap!!

Are either of them able to be dismantled? If so, then couldn't you just use one as the internal and the other as the external?

Just like the PC, I have my current play games on the 750GB SSD (internal) and moving them for storage on a 3TB HDD (external).

Can I simply activate the new one and go back and forth or will I be forced to format the prior one when going back?

I was able to switch between external drives without issue. If the application is on a drive not connect, it will show a (!) and a message to connect the storage device with the application installed to run.

And, load times on a PS4 Pro, MX300 750GB SSD (internal) vs MX300 525GB SSD (external):

Nioh: 68sec vs 68sec
Horizon: 52sec vs 59sec
Last of Us: 97sec vs 99sec

thats what I am talking about, assuming there is no speed difference between the two size.

Off topic, I got a samsung 1tb 840 evo and an ADATA Premier SP550 960GB, anyone know which one is crappier so I can put that in the PS4? I read some comparison data, still can't decide.

Hey, so it looks like some of us, including me, are having issues with USB storage and rest mode. Specifically, regardless of how the USB ports are powered (always, 3hours etc), rest mode seems to result in disconnection of the USB hard drive, resulting in a prolonged boot up, followed by an error message saying you need to repair the drive.

http://community.us.playstation.com...ng-off-when-ps4-enters-rest-mode/m-p/46186986

I'm using a Samsung T3, which someone else in that thread is using, though I've seen people in this thread using it without issue. Anybody else here encountering this?

The external hdd interaction with rest mode is pathetic.

-Put console into rest mode
-Turn on ps4 hours later
-warning pops up that the external drive wasn't disconnected properly. This warning is extremely intrusive as it will pop up seconds after resuming the game and will stop all game inputs till it "repairs" the drive. If you select no then it will just show the popup the next time it checks for the drive.

This is with the suspended game being run from the internal drive. What is even more nonsensical is that you cant disconnect a drive not in use while a game is running. While it makes sense to do this if the external is running the game, it does not if it isn't. The ps4 throws up a warning that all running software must be stopped first.

The way its set up now I will only use my external as an archiving space. Move unused games onto it then physically disconnect it. Instead of using it as a secondary drive to run and hold all my games.

Edit: above, i'm using an externally powered drive. So the disconnection is being caused by the drive turning itself off after a period of no use.
