Imagine being a Trump supporter.

No woman wants to touch you, none of your friends want to associate with you. All you have is your internet community and your conservative politics.

Then your Muslim ban gets shut down twice. Your border wall ends up costing you tax dollars for no change in illegal immigration. And finally, your rallying cry in politics for the last six+ years goes down in flames due to your political party's incompetence and your own base turning on you.

I'd probably kill myself in such a situation, to be honest.

And how does it apply to whats going on now with the ACA?

The idea was to push the AHCA as a budget bill first and foremost in paper in order to have it considered in the Senate under reconciliation. The reason for that is that the Republicans have a razor thin majority in the senate of 52 vs 48.. A regular bill could be filibuster(not allowed to come to the floor) if it came in as a regular bill since you need 60 votes to break the filibuster..

Democrats should be on the sidelines pushing a single-payer healthcare bill every chance they get, so that the GOP and Trumps failure on Healthcare is kept fresh in everyone's mind constantly.

But congressional democrats are fucking idiots so that won't happen.

Par for the course.

Obamacare provides mental health services.

But they still have 4 years to do it? Why does it matter that they failed today?

Still bitter that Blue Dog democrats killed that notion but Obamacare is indeed better than nothing even if we have to wait to get democrat majorities back in order to fix it.

Blue dogs didn't kill the public option. The house passed it. You can blame mr "with us on everything but the war" for that one

Next year is Midterms.. The appetite in congress will probably not be there since Healthcare is a truly massive undertaking with a lot of political fallout. The going consensus is that if the Administration continues on the current path that 2018 will be a wave year for the Democrats were they will capture the House.

Reconciliation can only be done during a certain time period.

They only have until April to pass a budget reconciliation bill before the new budget proposal needs to be voted on and they have to wait until next year to try it again. What's more is that they're taking a break for Easter which cuts down the time available even further.

They could do next year but 2018 has the midterms and no one is going to want to come out during wanting to fuck with people's health care when they're up for re-election. They could try again in 2019 but they spent almost 8 years single mindedly saying they would repeal and replace Obamacare, so they can't kick this can down the road forever.

Isn't Obamacare set to be defunded after this year? What happens then?

They can't blame democrats if they defund it. We shall see. The budget is going to be a big fight too, although that has a much better chance of making it to the senate. I'm not sure how good it's chances are, but you've got to figure it has more hope than the AHCA did.

Even considering that AHCA failing to pass has probably hurt the budget's chances some.

Single-payer is not popular.

Maybe it should be, but it isn't. Proponents haven't been able to get it passed even in Democratic states.

It's going to be more popular now than ever, especially for the moderate majority.
Based on? Not wanting the GOP's awful healthcare plan is not the same thing as wanting a huge transformation in the opposite direction.

I live in Canada, where we have single-payer, so I'm a fan, by all means. But the American public is a long way from embracing it.

It's pretty damn popular if you frame the question right -
http://www.gallup.com/poll/191504/majority-support-idea-fed-funded-healthcare-system.aspx

Which is why conservatives always shout "OMG SOCIALIZED MEDICINE".

I think idio..voters are catching on though. The GOP hold all branches and blaming democrats and socialism is no longer working. After this shit show I don't think they believe anything these fuckers have to say anymore and people are starting to realize that whatever the republicans say about anything its a sure bet the opposite is the truth.

Um, 57% of white women voted for him.

Dems couldn't pass single payer with massive majorities in the house and senate. I doubt that will change.

They will run into the same hurdles they did the first time. Moderate dems in conservative states won't vote for it. Not to mention that it comes off as incredibly hypocritical to fight off the GOP's replacement plan for the ACA only for dems to come out against it with their own replacement plan (which is what single payer would be... no matter how much people delude themselves to the contrary).

Just watched Trumps statements from the WH and it's incredible how dumb one must be to not see through him. It's so painfully obvious that he has no idea about anything and is just not an intelligent person.

Your border wall ends up costing you tax dollars for no change in illegal immigration.

I saw on CNN one morning that the associated and alleged border wall tax would cost an estimated $1700 per American family. This number came from a group comprised of Wal-Mart and major corporations.

They only have until April to pass a budget reconciliation bill before the new budget proposal needs to be voted on and they have to wait until next year to try it again. What's more is that they're taking a break for Easter which cuts down the time available even further.

You're giving them too much credit by saying they won't fuck with people's healthcare during a midterm year. They can sell it to their base as fulfilling their promise. Trump supporters are still attending rallies so all 45* has to do is treat 2018 like a campaign year and rally his base at the rallies. These same people will push for Trumpcare in a midterm year.

You should get out and see the country some time. I travel for work so I get a pretty good snapshot of the political make up of this country and I can guarantee you Trump supporters have no shortage of women or friends. There are plenty of areas in this country where you can see nothing but Trump lawn signs for miles. And im not talking in the sticks either, I'm talking 30 minutes outside of major cities.

By the time of the 2018-2020 congressional elections that will have been 8-10 years ago. The political landscape has changed significantly since then. I think Democrats could market it as an improvement to the ACA and not demonizing it like the GOP did. If they're feeling really bold they could even call it ObamaCare in honor of Obama and his advancements in healthcare. I have hope that the public watching the travel ban fail twice, failing to repeal and replace Obamacare, waste a lot of money on a "wall" that will be nothing close to his supporter's expectations, Blue collar workers losing their jobs, Keystone pipeline not really being a big boost in labor, etc. Fill finally see the Republican party and Trump for what they are.
