can anyone tell me why the fuck no one uploaded the regular battle theme??

I cant find it anywhere on youtube and its basically my favorite piece of music from the game.... Why?

So good.. especially when fighting lynels

EDIT: LOL nvm... the poster above literally just posted it. Thank you so much dude

There's a lot of good stuff there but damn if there weren't times while exploring the icy mountains or rocky valleys where I thought, "It'd be real nice to have a theme playing."

Technically there are themes for specific regions but they aren't especially interesting.

I agree, I would have liked some regions to have more melodic music too. But damn when the music plays its really, really good. Maybe a bit too quiet though, wish there was a volume slider.

@Whales you're welcome, that was a funny coincidence!

Yea a soft and light zelda theme occasionally would of been nice, just for that triumphant zelda feel..

Actually there is one, when you ride a horse.

I was speaking more in the lines of Gerudo Valley and the way up to Zoras domain. It would have been awesome if regions like those have melodic music...

Nope. The combat remains the same throughout, since you can fight the final boss after the intro.

Have you fought some Lynels? Can't really mash for those.

Sounds like the game is not your cup of tea. Maybe it's best not to continue.

I don't think so? I'm awful at remembering names of enemies though. Are those the flying mages that disappear and reappear?

Just bummed because I can tell the game is well made, and I loved it at first. I was even excited about the map stuff because I love map making in etrian odessey.

If this was tv only I would've stopped already but there isn't anything for the Switch for me until Puyo Puyo Tetris, and I figure I might as well play something on the treadmill.

]QUOTE=maxcriden;233124179]I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling psyched about the game at the moment. From what I understand (disclaimer: 75+ hrs in, only one dungeon down), it sounds like more advanced combat techniques become more useful or required in the endgame. They are taught to you in a shrine adjacent to a populated area, I'm not sure if you've encountered them yet. We've personally barely utilized them though it's probably a good idea to get used to those mechanics. But regardless, the combat can be more sophisticated in the meantime if you wish it to be by utilizing runes in combination with environmental conditions and weapons. Finding creative ways to take out the more powerful enemies, to stop them from one-shotting you (except the Guardians, which for all intents and purposes require certain methods of defeat) is part of the fun. What aren't you liking about the map? And, if it's any consolation, there are some very, very clever shrines out there waiting to be found, and, we personally have only encountered two with motion controls. No idea how many there are, but by no means the majority of them. (Granted, we haven't been too focused on shrines, so we haven't done that many more than you of those.)[/QUOTE]

The map to me is just kind of a shitty compromise.

It doesn't give you a bunch of tools to make a map from scratch like Etrian Odessey, but it also doesn't auto mark stuff you find.

So instead of having fun making the map, or having a super useful cliche open world map with 9 million icons, I have a map I am half assing and don't enjoy using or marking and bums me out every time I use it.

no they are horse dudes

But with your complains of getting one shotted ( which I understand - it was annoying me at first too) you may not like fighting them

But they're well crafted enemies and are fun to fight when you know what you are doing.

Did you upgrade any armor pieces yet? It helps a lot.

I don't mind hard enemies that one shot me, it just seems like almost every encounter for me so far is mash attack till they die, or get one shot from above because I didn't see them.

Next time I play I'll look for the horse guys though.

I guess combat wise I just got my hopes up too high due to everyone's hype/near perfect reviews/my hype of having a new system etc.

Yeah, you're not going to mash against a Lynel unless you have thebest armors/weapons in the game lol

They're really fun to fight. If you don't like them then the combat in this game really aint for you

Does the combat ever get more sophisticated?

25ish shrines in, and basically every fight is me easily button mashing them to death or being one shotted by some magic user that I don't see on top of a platform.

Between this, the motion control shrine, and the map (that people seem to love) I've really soured on Zelda since the start. Pretty bummed.
No, like a Dark Souls game the combat stays the same throughout, all that happens is you get stronger but more importantly learn how to dodge/parry and exploit enemy weaknesses. If you're "button mashing" you're likely not taking advantage of the many ways in which you can more quickly dispatch easy enemies (stealth, headshots with arrows, correct elemental damage, explosives etc), and if you find yourself easily dying you might consider going another way (you can go anywhere, no need to choose the path that takes you through tough enemies before you're equipped to handle them) or use cooking to gain temporary buffs.

Revali Theme is the best champion theme.

It is known.

HAH I am literally this second listening to this theme and thinking the same thing.

It's the most Ghibli theme in the game - perhaps not so surprising
because of the flight theme.
Totally could see Hisaishi playing it.

I know the
Rito dungeon is short,
but it was my first divine beast and I have a soft spot for everything that led to it - the town, the music
(Dragon Roost holy shit)
, the entire sequence. It works well as the first quest.

While
Gerudo town
is still my favourite overall,
Rito village
would be the place my Link would stay at.

I mean you are kind of answering your own question. If your "mash attack until they die" strategy isn't working, than maybe you aren't fully understanding the battle system.

It's funny when you think that they had to change Revali Theme to make him more likable and it kind of works because while he is abrasive towards Link you hear that song and you know he is just a big softie on the inside.

The Rito were amazing in this game and would have loved more content in that area but what is there is really good.

I've had zero problems with any enemies so far, it was getting one shot by guys I didn't see.

You're misunderstanding. Mash attack until they die has had a basically 100% success rate unless I'm getting one shotted by something I don't even know is there.

Due to not finding any tough enemies I've only put my shrine magic balls into stamina.

The Dark Souls comparisons are what had me excited in the first place combat wise.

Oh well thanks for the feedback/ideas/info everyone, leaving this thread before people treat me like I'm Jim Sterling or something and fuck the thread up for everyone for 5 pages.

This game shouldn't be compared to Souls combat wise at all

Honestly, the combat in Souls shits on this and is a lot more tight if you ask me. People are only comparing it to souls because it's ''hard'' ( up to a point). Maybe if Link's dashes had i-frames/ were better ( covered more distance, felt less floaty) then the comparison would be fair

I think all of the champion's themes are strong enough to hold their own in the Zelda music canon. They're all really well composed pieces - I just wished they were longer.

I like the first comment from the video:

"I've noticed that all their themes have their own personal touch of heroism at the beginning, but begin to break down into a soft serenade by the end. Kinda like a theme that play up to their strengths of being a champion, but at the same time, foreshadows their tragedy and their met demise."

I thought the worst part of korok seed hunting would be how monotonous it is but I'd kill for that right now. Constantly being interrupted by rain, keese swarms, stalfos, and the
Yiga Clan
is annoying as hell. I really wish the game would just leave me alone for a few minutes. It's bad enough I have to change my gear every time there's a thunderstorm.

I kinda of agree that people oversell the combat in this game. Feels like it boils down to hold shield until you see them move a little, jump backwards or sideways and then just mash the attack button while you kill them in slow mo (breaking a couple weapons throughout the fight). There's also the laser parrying shield thing, and that's kinda cool.

I will say I really did appreciate the fact that I found myself getting one shotted, or at least taking a lot of hearts of pain from even small enemies. Felt like this game actually wanted me to be invested in fighting. Felt like I actually needed to go into situations with a gameplan.

And I think that's where the combat in this game is stronger - utilizing the situations and the environment to weaken enemies ahead of time. Throwing bombs at them to lure them out, knocking down the lantern in their lair, taking a few out with arrows before storming in.

If you run into a Lynel or a shrine with a modest/major test of strength, you do have to learn the patterns. Lynels are legitimately really fun to fight, Hinoxes and Taluses too imo. But to me attacking stuff in this game never felt as good as the fluid mix of animations you had when you were smacking enemies around in Wind Waker or Twilight Prince. This game tries to make up for it in weapon variety I think, and I feel like it does succeed there a little bit.

Anyway, I'm meandering here, but my point is I see where you're coming from (kinda) and can sympathize.

Oh, I don't know, they're at least superficially similar enough that I've clicked the right stick a time or two, trying to lock on. *ZOOM* That's a good way to feel dumb.

But yeah, really, selling someone on this game as being Souls-like, even just in combat, is setting them up to dislike it.

For anyone who says the game does not have much music

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiGvWycRgz6iRcwFs8aEjS5HuNBa9XpAu

I think its a amazing OST.

BotW has the best audio landscape since WW. The Devine Beast tracks are the best dungeon music in the series. This is the first time the main theme has been used a motif in the series? I know Minda's theme is used throughout TP. Regardless, catching wisps of BotW's main theme in other songs is fantastic. Best version of Dragon Roost island theme as well.

Lynels are immune to elemental effects, even bomb arrows don't explode on em.

Lynels also aren't minotaurs, although I suppose there could have been a mix-up.

I don't rely on flurry rush at all except to get tests of strength over with. Combat's really dynamic that way.

l'd say combat in Souls is actually looser especially defensively as your roll has tons of invincibility frames while here dodging actually means dodging, you've got to get out of your opponent's hitbox or you're going to get demolished.

Also Souls combat sucks ass and l'm glad BotW's is nothing like it.

The Lost Pilgrimage is one of the worst fucking things I've ever seen in a videogame. I can't believe that it exists in this masterfully crafted game.

You know what I would love? To have some sort of a race with this game - but not just a race in terms of who would finish the game the fastest, no! Hear me out:

How about a few people starting the game at the same time and agreeing on a certain time limit - let's say: about 2 hours. Then you would have exactly 2 hours to prepare yourself for the endgame - collect weapons, cook meals, progress for better equipment etc. and after the time is up the player would have to enter Ganon's Castle with the inventory equipment he just has at the end of the time limit and beat Ganon with it.

I don't know, this sounds quite challenging and super fun to me! :D Would love to try something like that out!

But that's exactly what speedruns of this game are? Just not 2 hours, more like 45 minutes.

Oh look a motion control shrine. Ha. Hahaha. Nope.

I hope there is a mobile cooking pot or something later. I love cooking, want to cook in the wilds.

No.

That was the only one I had to use a guide for. :(

Ok well, then i guess i'm off to check EVERY FREAKING wooded area on the map. I feel like i have to be missing a visual clue on this image.... off i go. After this, I'll actually do some of the story.

Fake Edit:
Climbing Gear with the set bonus is so amazing. i have 6 stamina upgrades (1.2 extra circles), and i can literally jump all the way up the great plateau wall from the bottom.

So I finally found the second fairy fountain and decided to upgrade my ancient armor clothes for the set bonu. I had to look up the effect and GameFaq's message board is saying the bonus is
80% attack increase in ancient weapons
??? Is this true?
