NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

No way I'd refer to a cadre of androids powerful enough to create something like the Bunker and all the androids that crewed it as "random". They're too important to the whole thing.

I wonder if we'll get a sequel where we get to play as Jackass hunting down the mysterious bastards responsible for YoRHa. The research report is certainly quite something...

Hunt down who exactly? I was under the impression that whoever set up YoRHa has been long gone and this is just the system being completely automated.

Yup, they don't matter. Nothing matters!

This is probably the best "pointless" game I've ever played.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the splash art for the game is 9S standing on a rooftop looking out over land in the same way the robots contemplating their existence were.

Right, but in the first mission 9S didn't get a chance to backup and the only thing that happened to him was forgetting about that mission after he and 2B blew themselves up. Shouldn't that dead YoRHa unit just not remember the mission and be back at the bunker?
That particular YoRHa member is actually a very interesting detail. As others have noted on this thread, you get the designations for the other units flying into the mission with you and one of them has E-designation. The android you look for in that quest is fully intending to desert during the mission, as we get to find out during the quest. They won't restore her back-up because even that version of her would still be harboring immediate intent for desertion.

Jackass certainly thinks that someone who is culpable for the project is around. She wouldn't sweat to go on rampage of retribution if there were no recipients for it.

Well for this you have to watch the STAGE PLAY PREQUEL YorHa which details what happened.

Or you an read up on it in game. :P It's the terminals behind anemone.

i am to use the terminal, but it's not reacting,i jumped to another chapter but the member using it not talking with me.

It doesn't matter.

I think a lot of people's enjoyment of this game is being...compromised? There's got to be a good word for this, due to how they consume media. People always want explanations or to know the mystery for things, like believing that something isn't a good mystery if they can't figure it out beforehand or didn't have all the pieces when it was never about trying to solve it but was a device or vehicle for the story.

Who created YoRHa is actually incredibly unimportant. It doesn't matter at all to the story. Some things you don't need answers for or to know because knowing it doesn't add anything to the story or have any relevance.

The characters and plot for this story are a vehicle for what it's trying to say or do. If you want a character-driven, surface but well-written plot like the first Nier than this game will disappoint you. I think very few games ever attempt anything similar to what this game is doing so people aren't really well-equipped to handle it either. When we speak of games having great stories or themes, we speak of them on a very simple level; it was a great story because it was told well. It had great themes because they were simple ideas that you can easily consume. Games media is incredibly new, relatively speaking, so it has rarely touched on what this game tries to do.

Maybe I'm being a bit hyperbolic but I honestly believe this game's writing stands apart from other games and because it's not told in the same way as most games we consider to have good stories or plots or characters we're not used to dismantling them or understanding exactly what's happening.

The game makes a point of pushing the player towards grasping their own future - and to that end, I want the option of finding out who started the whole YoRHa project in my future. Because I care. :^)

Even if it's automated at this point, the question of what built the Bunker and all the androids in it and all the gear they use remains unanswered. The tower was entirely machine-built, but what built the Bunker and the androids? Certainly wasn't the machines that did that. The most they did was sabotage their own network for the sake of continuing a pointless war - they didn't have the wherewithal to actually aid their enemies and build their forces up for them.

Someone, somewhere was behind YoRHa and built the whole thing. I want to know who. It doesn't matter how pointless it all is, or how little it matters in the grand scheme of things, it's just my prerogative to care. I'm just that kind of person.

I love how perfectly they nailed Jackass in that Machine Report after you beat the game. She's as furious as she should be about the fact that fellow androids are behind the YoRHa project.

Thanks to GAF I was able to find and defeat Emil last night. Goddamn that's one hell of a battle, poor Emil has been suffering for ages.

I think you have to talk to Anemone
after she gives you the philosophy book that you are supposed to give to Pascal.

Can i only fight the hidden underground boss as 9S? I am having a hard time and would appreciate some tips on what i should be doing. Currently lv 91 and i have most weapons maxed out.

I think Pod-042's line of "Not everything needs to be answered" is Taro commenting on those loose ends.

As a theologian, you might wonder why God has abandoned you and what the meaning of life is.

As 2B and 9S and A2? What does it matter what cruel God this to you now that you know there's no chance you will ever get to take him to task for it?

what underground hidden boss?

BTW,if you want to farm EXP very fast and level up to 99 by less then 30 minutes,go to chapter 4 as A9,equip some EXP chips,go to the amusement park and hack to top hat machine ,kill everyone, and hack the golden rabbit statue,it should give you 194000 EXP,kill the remaining machine in your way and repeat.

Ah, but the question is, are those "gods" still around? The nature of the whole thing is a bit different if there are still movers and shakers in play.

Of course, logically it's a complete waste of energy to think about these things if answers are not forthcoming. I'm just saying I'd really enjoy playing DLC or a sequel where such things are explored.

due to the second robbery requiring hacking, you have to fight the second hidden boss as 9S. Probably my biggest disappointment with the post game was only 2 super bosses and 1 of them is locked to 9S

I was attacked by a lv 99 Emil in an underground cave.
Yeah i have been using that farming trick but i can't always get the hacking to work. Hitting the gold statue also activates it after a fair amount of hits so that works too!

Guess i'll just have to get good with 9S.

My problem is getting that first hack to go off. They always self-destruct. But that might be because i am doing it on route c...

Anyway i just noticed that i have some stupid chips equipped for that secret boss fight. I probably won't be needing that +5 item drop and +4 xp chip anymore :P

the in the square near the fountain there is 2 top hat, hack the first one from the entrance, you always can control him.

You monster. Those robots are innocent.

Time to sacrifice your data.

i have a question about that,if i backup my save and then decide to delete my save to help other players, can i restore it and keep the new background?

I backed up and restored both my system file and my actual save file, and the background reverted back. You might be able to keep the new background if you only restore your actual save file and not the system file, but I haven't tested it.

So just be 100% sure, I don't have to worry about people's concerns over spoilers?

Well, i put a spoiler warning on top because a lot of fan art simply revolves around fun character interactions and the likes, so i'd say that thread is a case of enter at your own risk

I'll take it! I'll try to contribute every now and then lol

You should feel bad.
He's dead.
You are a bad person.
It's your place now because you killed him and stole it. The final resting place of the beloved Kaine no less.
Insanity is just a silly thing. Emil makes sfx when you punch.

Sounds like you only fought him at his house. Upgrade all the weapons and talk to emil again.

It makes Emil say shit like "Heyo Friendo!" and other stuff when you attack with the Emil heads.

And yes, I felt like shit during and after that fight.
And you'll feel worse after the next one
