I got stuck in a room in Origins and had to abandon my game.
I never experienced anything close to that in other Arkham games

My biggest problem was that is was:
-more of the same with less of the excitement and more of the expectation, but
-it still wanted me to go through the period of introduction when
-I've already played the goddamn game essentially 3 times at this point, though
-I acquiesce that there could theoretically be others who've chosen this as their jumpstart and this is a common problem for developers of iterated games but
-that ain't my fucking problem to worry about, and for future development's consideration
-Zelda just absolutely knocked this issue out of the park, almost unbelievably, considering Skyward Sword was a dud for this reason explicitly.
I'm all for a Destroy All Humans reboot, redo, or sequel. Excellent games.

Arkham City literally ended my game by deleting my save file. I had beaten the game, thankfully, but was working on the Riddler challenges. The worst Origins did to me was that thing where 1 building wasn't tangible unless you changed a value in an ini file.
I get the complaint that it's iterative, but like you admit, it has to be designed for newcomers. The fact that it doesn't measure up to one of the best games ever that came out over 6 years later is kind of expected and I'm not sure where you're going there.
The introductory part of the game isn't the bulk of the game and once it opens up those complaints are, I think, moot.

Arkham Origins got rid of the iconic KO noise the Rocksteady games had (that squishy crunch when Batman punches the last guy in a fight). Even disregarding all of the bugs, glitches, and bad design decisions, that is unforgivable. Edit: Oh, and having the wrong Batman voice is pretty bad too.
Although I still have to give the crown of "worst Arkham game" to Knight. The batmobile and launch state are mortal sins in the gaming world.

A few short comments about games which I have played recently:
- Evoland 2 started as the Nier Automata of RPG, but it overstays its welcome: the music are repetitive, the game is very linear. It gets more obvious after ~9 hours, so I drop it as I dropped Oceanhorn.
- RIVE is an amazing game, with a short campaing plus 18 daily challenges (which are really challenging). My only complaint is that there could be an additional checkpoint for the hardest challenges. I have stopped playing after ~20 hours.
- Eternal Card Game is still the best CCG out there, mostly because it is almost as complex as Magic, and much more generous in terms of F2P. I have played the game for ~330 hours.
- Armello is a nice board game, which I have played against the AI for ~7 hours. The game suffers from a non-functional multiplayer (for me), long turns (thankfully, there is now a fast-forward button to make the AI play faster), and weird microtransactions (pay to unlock characters...).
It should get price drop to 50 later this month for deluxe/goty version.

A playthrough is estimated to last ~17 hours, and I cannot justify pouring more time into a very very linear fetch-questing game. I might give it a try later this year. Right now, I am burnt by the game. The fact that the gameplay changes a lot is fun, it might be the reason I stuck with it for this long.
These Final-Fantasy-like random fights were such a pain to go through: no challenge. It is as if the devs were just showing off.
The games will probably be as polarising as they were during their original release. There's seemingly no middle ground, it either strikes a chord or it doesn't.
It's probably the best case I can think of for ignoring reviews and trusting your own tastes to guide yourself towards games you think look interesting/fun/fulfilling.
At least with HD remasters hopefully releasing as a duology it exposes more people to the far superior Shenmue II.

It really does seem like the only reason Atlus hasn't had any games on PC yet, is because the upper management is backwards as hell. Someone at the top is probably still worried about everyone on PC stealing the game or some shit.

Ahahaha, reading the Atlus Persona 5 'streaming guidelines' makes it really clear why it is the only(? one of the few?) big japanese company not on Steam yet. They aren't even ready for the digital age on consoles yet.

ATLUS is still living in 2005 basically, and that's how they make decisions.
Between this, still no PC ports, regionlocking games on Console, 6-18 months late releases compared to Japan, their DLC policies, and the way they treat the EU, ATLUS gotta be the worst company in this industry.
Sucks greatly, cos their games are fantastic.

If ATLUS came out and said that they're under the impression that they would have to make their games into erotic visual novels for the PC ports, I'd completely understand their unwillingness.

Zelda is there as a non-sequitur, not really meant for a comparison. It's basically for future reference on how I'd like to see this issue tackled in the future.
The core complaint about the introductory part that I didn't really get to in my cheeky, dumb bulletpoint spread is that it sets the stage for a rote experience that the game never really lifts you out of. It rarely goes anywhere at all.
As an origin story, particularly one of the most well-known fictional heroes of the 20th century (if not THE? (who else: Superman (whose origin story is pretty fucking boring, tbh), Spider-Man (same problem), OJ Simpson), the path can't be strayed from too much without a mob. But the story lives in those stray paths, and I feel the game failed to ever go there.
It starts feeling kinda mechanically, and ends feeling kinda mechanical. We got where we were going.
There are far worse games out there. Far worse games that get pumped. And I'll cop to really, really enjoying Asylum and feeling like the sequels never hit that. And I'll cop to liking that LOTR game that fails on almost all of these same levels.
I guess my point is that, much like the band Radiohead, I was left feeling like it was just... unnecessary.

I think that's fair but that it only really has that label because it isn't a Rocksteady game. Arkham Night is equally unnecessary in many ways.
I think the case can be made for Arkham City being necessary because it's easy to think "Arkham Asylum but opened up even larger." However, I'd argue that if we look at each game independently, Origins does many of the things City did but better and, with some exceptions, is probably the superior experience.
And it should be, mind you. They had City to look at and build from.
I listened to NieR: Gestalt OST today at work.
I really hope Squeenix hires Platinum to remake that game as well. Really, really hope.

I played arkham city for a few hrs and dropped it. Boring as fuck.
I only listened to the Nier 1 soundtracks in Automata. (spoiler: they're incredible).
I kind of don't want to listen to the entire Nier 1 OST, because I'd like to be surprised once I get to play it in the future.

So... you can't change the screen resolution in Lego City without going into the ini file. The graphics menu has an option to select the resolution you want but you can't actually press the button to accept any changes you make. So you stay in a 720p window permanently.

Is there really much reasoning in not putting out games on PC these days? All of the development occurs on PCs and console architecture is PC like.
I can't imagine even farming out a PC port is all that expensive in the grand scheme of things. I'd even understand having a console first push and then the PC release coming out 3 months later.

I don't see why people are complaining it sounds like a perfect Switch Handheld mode port.
Oceanhorn is some boring crap. However I'm currently 12 hours in Evoland II and I find it better than average. The definitely went overboard with pop culture references and with the scope of the game, but it managed to keep my interest, also now it's slightly more open: you can actually choose what to do between five different tasks, plus the sidequests, plus the card game.
