yes

which is part of why it's so scary. a deeply vain man obsessed with approval ratings realising that war is the quickest and most effective way to boost his support.

it's a short bump at most, and that's only when America was directly attacked. if he puts American lives at stake for no good reason, it will backfire on him dangerously.

That was a no win situation. What do we do when Russia violates the no fly zone? How large of a conflict are you willing to risk?

Russia was not involved at the time.
I really doubt we would have seen this level of involvement from Russia (or even Iran) with a direct US attack against Assad.

If this doesn't turn them off of Trump, then it kind of calls into question the sensibility of calling them isolationists, doesn't it?
Prison planet who is a bit of a canary in the alt right coal mine said "rand Paul 2020" so perhaps some of his base will be annoyed at this move especially as it was something Hillary suggested same day

But I think Hillary would have got it through congress and talked to allies first.

CNN just reported that Russia was *not* told of attack beforehand.

There's no fucking way that can be true... Right??
Uuuuuhhh did someone mispeak? I was just listening and they said they did inform them.

Many Nations were informed and gave consent, according to White House staff.

What you're likely referring to is Trump's response to an unrecorded reporter's question about talking with Putin directly, to which he said "not yet, may later."

Unconfirmed reports of Russian/Syrian shoot downs of some of the Tomahawk missiles.

I stress unconfirmed, but it could explain why Schiff said 70 missiles, but Pentagon officially said 59.

You can't give information like that without linking to a source.

Lolwut?! You actually believe the Kremlin, which has poured its military and financial assets, at great expense to itself, into propping up the Assad regime is HAPPY that Trump (their supposed ally) is now bombing the shit out of their Baathist friends?? Yeah sure buddy.

It's a good retaliation without any impact to Russia. Kind of like a perfect play for trump if he does want to keep his Russian masters happy. The planes and other assets were probably gone. It's not a front line base.

From where?

Holy fucking shit. I didn't even know it was possible to shoot down a tomahawk? Is it?

Edit: it is, but it seems like you would have to know about the launch immediately and intercept with fighter jets. I don't buy it.

Hoping this doesn't start something with Russia...

50+ Tomahawk cruise missiles is definitely going to start something. Russia was asked by Assad to intervene, the US wasn't unless you consider the US to have ultimate authority to intervene everywhere. Syria is a Russian ally. They will definitely return and resume their own proxy campaign

Wondering if Bannon had something to do with this. Like, he objected to the strike so Trump made an example of him.

God, I can't even fathom this.

Donald Trump and his inarticulate ineptitude talking about military bombing operations..

It's hypocritical but ultimately a good move I think. Just got to hope it was evaluated correctly before striking.

Same here but goddamn this is some intense development, it makes me wonder how long it will take until we get into another large scale conflict.

I'll simply say that anyone who knowingly deploys chemical weapons deserves a missile to the face. I also realize that situations like this are NEVER that black and white, and war is abhorrent, and innocent lives are ALWAYS caught in the crossfire.

What do you think isolationist means?

This is a semantic argument I'm not interested in.

Are you arguing that isolationists should generally be fine with this?

If not, then it seems weird to call some faction of Trump supporters isolationists if that faction is generally fine with this, no?
