Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

Pokken 2 (with the arcade characters plus more.)
Super Mario Maker 2 (With all new parts and pieces, a bunch of Nintendo-created content, new amiibo costumes, etc.)
Hyrule Warriors 2 (BotW Content, New Story Mode, etc.)
Bayonetta 3 (Self-Explanatory)

These would all be preferable to Wii U ports.

absolutely but the same applies to mario kart 8, smash bros 4 (which isnt even announced ;D) and Zelda BotW
I thought we wouldn't get a Direct until E3 in order to "reserve" surprises, just a dedicated one or small videos to announce characters/features and release dates for Arms and Splatoon 2.

This is pretty similar to a dedicated broadcast, but with space for one or two new reveals. Smash and Pokémon Stars (if real) would be probably announced at E3 and a dedicated presentation respectively, the same for Retro's project. Octopath Traveler, SMT and Suda's new game seem to be early in development, so trailers for those are unlikely. Assuming XC2 and Odissey are late this year, they won't talk about those either.

We could learn more about DQXI, USFII and FE:W, but what else? Skyrim? Something from Ubisoft?

if smash is going to be revealed here its going to be a stop gap port. if its at e3 i would say its smash 5..

i think sakurai is making something for switch

Do it for MK8 Deluxe. Give us some virtual console titles. Please? :(

I... kind of don't care about this.

Hopefully the 'mainly' in 'focused mainly on ARMS and Splatoon 2' means that there will be some other stuff around the edges. And hopefully that stuff isn't just 3DS.

Nintendo always announces at least 1 major new game in each overall direct, right? Has there been one where nothing new was announced?
We've had game specific Directs without game announcements and to be fair this is mainly for ARMS and Splatoon 2. That being said I'm sure there will be something.

Are there some big games coming out for 3DS that we already know about? Do we know if all New 3DS games will run on 3DS? Sorry I haven't been following the scene lately and was thinking about giving my 3DS to a kid who is daydreaming about having one but first want to know what games are on the way.

give me Goodbye! BoxBoy! or give me death

I would expect it as soon as "available now" during the Direct but it's surely coming soon regardless.

There will definitely be some other stuff, and yeah, hopefully not only 3DS. I'd be surprised if there was no Switch news.

Maybe a new Mario Odyssey trailer? :o

I wouldn't expect it till E3 unfortunately.

Yeah, there's a Wiki list of Directs and from what I remember reading thorough it before each Direct that is not specifically about one game only (like the Wonderful 101 Direct for example) did have at least one new announcement, and I want to say most of the time at least one announcement was for a game that would release within 3-6 months (in some cases multiple games were announced).

ever oasis (rpg with some town building), a pikmin sidescroller, Fire emblem warriors (multiplat with switch), and fire emblem echoes are all i can remember that's announced. there's probably a solid selection of unlocalized japanese games that could come over someday too.

FE Warriors is new 3ds only. the hyrule warriors port ran so badly on regular 3ds that they're not trying to force this one to work on the weaker system.

Pikmin 3DS
Fire Emblem Echoes
Fire Emblem Warriors (N3DS exclusive)
Ever Oasis
SMT Strange Journey

And probably a few others I'm forgetting. I know there's Lady Layton but I don't think the 3DS version is confirmed for the West yet.

BTW, most but not all N3DS games run on 3DS. There are only a few exclusives.

They need to give some release dates and hopefully at least 1 new announcement. Zelda and launch hype will only last so long, it's time to start letting people know what else is in store.

Super Mario Sunshine HD for Summer release to hold us over til Super Mario Odyssey.

Has anyone ever actually come up with a believable scenario for how they'll handle Gamecube games (ie the analog triggers)?

I want Sunshine more than most legit Switch titles, but I don't know how they'll do it.

Well, of the rumors there's
Pokemon
Smash
Mario Rabbids
Mario Maker
Retro's game

iirc.

Pokemon will be at it's own thing.
Smash could be E3.
Mario rabbids seems it could be announced at any time, it doesn't matter
I'm still not sure Mario maker is real (I think the other 3 are), but that could more E3.
Retro will def be E3.

I don't see any of these getting announced in a Splatoon ARMs direct, Mario rabbids might have a chance but eh

Sunshine is the main reason I even care about analog triggers. I guess they could map weak-medium-strong to the L button or R3?

Assign soft and hard trigger presses to R/ZR? Not sure if that's possible or even comfortable.

Yeah, I remember Sakurai stating he started his next project shortly after development for Smash finished (including DLC). However, it's too soon to think of Smash 5, and even if they already started working on it, it wouldn't release until late 2018 at the earliest.

If that's the case, I'm not so sure they would be unveiling it at E3. I mean, ok, Smash 4 was announced without even a teaser video, but the real marketing push started much later.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to his next project!

if its comming late 2018 then a E3 2017 reveal wouldnt be completly out of the ordinary.

personally i just dont know where they can expand on this time. Brawl had so much fan stuff and they kinda upped that aspect with 4 (although the 3ds one is pretty barebones). they cant up that again.. can they?

I agree those are all unlikely but I'm still hoping to hear about something new. The switch had been totally starved of SW announcements so far and it would be nice to actually see something new in this direct.

Having said that release dates for splatoon and arms are the most important thing really.

Agreed, I don't know either. But... I'm one of those weirdos who actually liked The Subspace Emissary. It won't happen though.

Edit: Of course there is something. Elma for Smash (Deluxe or 5, I don't care).

Easily, I get confused when people ask that sort of question. There are tons of awesome characters they can still add to the smash bros roster (and returning vets to which would be amazing). They could add new stages and music, also bring back all the old awesome ones as well. They can combine the 3DS and wii U content for a start. I think there is heaps of stuff they can still bring into smash bros.

Personally I was a smash bros complete edition with all the content from all the games included (so stages, music, characters and modes). Some new additional content would be nice as well, the more characters the better for me. That would easily tide me over until they can make a proper smash bros 5.

Smash 5 (or 6 or whatever) would be preferable to a Wii U port too. I'd much rather get the Ice Climbers back and get new characters and stages than play the existing Wii U game on the go.

If there is a new game announced at this Direct then it will almost certainly be a 3DS game imo. All the Switch announcements will be kept for E3 as it's so close.

The only game I could possibly see being announced for Switch is the Smash port as it's basically a poorly kept secret at this point.

Im expecting a release date for ARMS and Splatoon 2 and some 3DS release dates and thats it.

The Switch press conference made me temper my expectations going forward.
