Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

ARMS is tough... I thought it looked interesting, but wasn't particularly excited. All of my non-gaming friends who came to my Jan 12th Switch Announcement Party thought it looked incredibly dumb.

I was converted when I actually played it at the Chicago demo event (and won the tournament on-stage!!). I wonder how my non-gamer friends will react when they eventually play.

I booked a conference room at work so a few of us can sit and watch it while we work. It's right at the end of the work day CST so it's pretty good timing.

I thought ARMS looked uninteresting until the Treehouse live event. Maybe the reveal just didn't do a great job showing it off.

I was interested in Splatoon from the initial reveal.

So far I'm lukewarm on ARMS. Played the event demo and feel I've got my fill. Hoping the amount of content is substantial. And I say this as someone who plays Mario Kart GPs over and over happily.

Interesting that it's only 35 minutes. They have a lot to tell us about ARMS, less so about Splatoon 2 since it's further out.

But there will definitely be a new game announced, probably 3DS sadly (well sadly for me). Not expecting anything big whatsoever.

I was actually expecting it to be shorter. I really hope they show off some more modes and control options for ARMS. We know they are there... so let's see 'em... maybe a tag mode and story mode. Oh, and also a release date. Also, a celebration of the direct with Punchout VC available right after the direct.

My wish list just keeps getting bigger!!

Fire Emblem Switch may have been leaked:

Nintendo is good at packing a lot of information into these things. 35 minutes is pretty beefy.

I think two games that need to be ported from the Wii U are

-DKCTF. Not enough people got to play this amazing game. It deserves to be played by more people.

Star Fox Zero. This is more of a game that needs a fix. Traditional controls...nothing more needs to be said about that lol. It needs the traditional controls as standard. Also, an online mode created! Two players come with the Switch. More 2 player modes could be created for offline and online play. It can also look better on Switch.

Length honestly tells us nothing when it comes to a Direct. There have been short, 30 minutes Directs full of new info and announcements and there have been 45 minute Directs that were absolute snoozefests.

I'm expecting a lot of info about ARMS, since we really know so little right now. Especially when it comes to single player and online. I'm thinking like 15-20 minutes of ARMS, which leaves 15-20 minutes of everything else. I guess that's not all that little time.

I'd like to add Nintendo Land to that list.

Some of the features and gameplay will need to be adjusted due to lack of Gamepad (like Mario Chase) but it's the best and most fleshed-out minigame compilation I've played.

I doubt Nintendo will do it, however. It's a game so intertwined with the Wii U, mechanically, conceptually, and commercially, that they'll probably want to forget all about it.

We don't know it's 35 minutes. Nico Nico is saying that and the Direct is probably around that. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 40 minutes.

TBH it doesn't need 20 minutes. When Splatoon had its own Direct there was fluff material and skits in between. ARMS just needs to be info after info. 15 minutes max is good enough to talk new characters, modes, online, etc.

Ah I saw 35 minutes being thrown around like it was confirmed.

You guys are right anyway, 35 minutes should be more than enough. I'm still not planning to expect any "big" announcements though for my own sanity.

I want Duck Game to come out already though...

why are people still surprised that the 3DS is getting games?

did people forget GBC was getting games when GBA came out, and GBA with DS?
The difference is those consoles had backwards compatibility so we weren't forced to buy games on the old hardware. Releasing exclusive 3DS games is just dumb when it is far past its prime and its successor needs more games.

nani

also 3DS has backwards compatibility

3DS backwards compatibility is only relevant in the context that major ds games were still releasing two years into its life cycle. 3DS being backwards compatible means nothing in the context of 3DS still getting worth while exclusives that CANT be played on Switch. In a perfect scenario, fire emblem echoes, Pikmin, and ever oasis would be on Switch even if just eshop exclusives.

Yeah good luck with that needing a secondary screen.

In any case, that just means that the 3DS is still a feasible machine. Why shit out 3DS owners?

Because it's time to move on and make Switch as successful as possible. Also, second screen doesn't mean the games can't be adapted easily.

Anyone thinking we might get a surprise eshop release for Switch? I'd love to see something along the lines of BOXboy get announced with a release date of "soon". Hell, just give me the BOXboy trilogy on Switch!

I would be completely shocked if a box boy trilogy doesn't release for Switch at some point before fall.

We need Mario Maker Switch. And we need it very soon and not at the end of the switch's life circle. And we also need slopes.

I think we'll get Mario Maker next year at some point. There are already plenty of good Nintendo first party titles this year and next year will likely have the likes of the following in the west imo:

Xenoblade 2, Smash Bros, Mario Maker, Retros New IP, Fire Emblem Switch and maybe even Animal Crossing.

Nintendo are going to be dropping plenty of games, but they also need to spread these things out over the years. That above doesn't even include the likes of Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, New IPs, New pokemon gen etc. Switch future looks great for Nintendo fans I'd say.

The only issue is how are they going to implement the stylus??

I'm sure they could work around it. The second screen was an after thought for the majority of 3ds games.

I don't see having a game released on both platforms as screwing 3ds owners. Personally, I think its time for nintendo to move on from 3ds exclusive tittles.

I'd be ok with Mario Maker Switch with two changes:

1. Improve the curation of online levels so there's less random crap and insanely hard levels at the top of the favourites.
2. Include some paint tools to allow us to draw our own textures/ backgrounds or sprites.

Neither will happen I guess.

Windwaker HD would sell better than either.

I can't see either DKCTF or Star Fox Zero doing good busines on Switch.

I'm not convinced the resources they would take to port over would be worthwhile. Nintendo spent way too much money on Wii U games that would clearly bomb/not sell much....I don't see the point in doubling down on those unless they can knock them out very cheap and very fast.

If you're going to port games to Switch...you should at least port games you think will sell...not known failures that didn't resonate with either core fans or the wider public the first time around.

I wished they would add online too it. But I'd love for a Nintendo Land 2. Nintendo Land is underrated. Sadly, I never see it happening. :(

Yeah 35 minutes should be good enough for them to get all the info out. And you know they'll still release trailers for ARMS as it gets closer to release. I wouldn't expect any big announcements. I can see a small to mid size announcement. If would be nice to get Detective Pikachu!
