Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

Perhaps, however the vast majority of "leaks" are absolute bullshit and accurate ones does not mean things from there should be trusted.

Of course that's exactly why you can get legit leaks from there. It's almost absolute anonymity making it harder to track back to you. You also don't lose any reputation if something changes and what you thought was correct turns out false. In return you get a lot of false flags but it is one of the easier ways to go about it.

This is true for every former console btw.
The number of relevant releases really isn't that big for every platform.
Sure, but the real problem with N64 isn't quantity but the way controller emulation is always terrible.

NES is fine. You just need directional input and two other buttons. Whatever two face buttons are most comfortable for you is fine - A and B or Y and B or X and A or whatever. Likewise for Game Boy.
SNES is also fine. You just need directional input, four face buttons, and two shoulder buttons.
GBA is like SNES but with two fewer face buttons. Easy.
GameCube just needs two sticks, d-pad, four face buttons, and at least three shoulder buttons. People like to talk about pressure sensitivity but most games don't rely on it; the ones that do ought to be ported anyway rather than emulated.

DS, 3DS, Wii, and Wii U are where it really gets tricky. But honestly I don't expect any of these systems to have Virtual Console support on Switch anyway.

N64 is in a weird basket where most of its face buttons end up having to be remapped. And it's also the home for a ton of 3D Nintendo games that don't support analog camera controls. And its graphics are super dated but not quite in the way that makes them retro and appealing like NES, SNES, Game Boy, and GBA games. Please remaster all of them so none of this is ever a thing anyone has to deal with on Switch.

?

It's right there. There's a cardboard filler that's exactly the size of a game case. You can remove it, put in any Switch game case, and it fits just right.

I just tried it:

1) The game case doesn't fit easily, it needs to be jammed in

2) Jamming a game case in leaves no room for the Switch unit itself.

I would be cool with just a Dark Souls 1 port, that's my favourite of the trilogy anyway. Of course the entire set would be even better.

The lack of any dark souls of any kind is another missed opportunity, even a cheap optimized port of the PS3/Xbox 369 games.

At least we know that 4 and 5 will become Spl4toon and 5platoon

Look, if we're really committing to the Fast and the Furious naming scheme, we're in for the likes of "The Splatoon" and "Splat Five" and "7oon".

Oddly enough, it would make total sense for the third entry to be Tokyo Drift.

Man I am gonna miss the live stream because I got a dentist appointment at 3 pm :(

Hopefully when I am done, I will open of this thread to some awesome news.

BTW

How often does Nintendo do a Nintendo Direct? Is it likely this will be the only Direct before E3?

Every few months on average, though their subject matter usually varies. Sometimes it's all things Ninty, sometimes a specific systems, sometimes just a specific game. If I was a betting man I'd say this is the last thing we'll hear from them before E3 though.

I'm surprised that Monster Hunter Stories hasn't been announced for a Western release already, seeing as Funimation has been dubbing the anime for a while now.

It's been varying. They've been some smaller directs about specific games (Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, etc) but I imagine this will probably be the last main direct (if it is a main direct) before E3.

Since this direct is focused on two online-focused games, I hope we hear more about Nintendo's online service. They're charging money now, so they really need to justify that cost both with services and number of games with online play. I think they'll talk about that stuff and Virtual Console today and not at E3 because it's boring, detailed stuff and it's probably not all good news.

Also, if Smash is announced, I hope it starts with a Splatoon or Arms fakeout character announcement thing.

The lack of any dark souls of any kind is another missed opportunity, even a cheap optimized port of the PS3/Xbox 369 games.

I'd love a portable version of the first game with a locked framerate, but we're actually going to get a bad version of 3 or nothing.

On the other hand when you take the Rare games out you'll end up with a very limited number of games and out of them only Mario 64 needs a remake. You can emulate Paper Mario or Kirby 64 fine and for the Zeldas they'll obviously remaster the 3DS remakes.

It used to be every 2 months, but now it's every 6 (for the time being).

Next thing is E3

General Direct usually comes once every 2 months. Game-specific Direct happens a week or two before the game launch, but sometimes there's none.

Whenever they feel like. Outside of smaller Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem Directs the last one was in September 2016. Sometimes its every 2 months.

Not too often, so yes. I would say they usually do 3-4 a year (including e3 and excluding smaller 1-game directs)

Most probably though we may get a specific game targeted direct. It's not exactly absolute schedule. If they have something they want to advertise they'll do it.

Thank you all! So based on your replies, are you all feeling this will be more of a specific Direct focused mostly on Splatoon and Arms or is Nintendo due for a meatier heavier Direct? I'm trying to set expectations for surprises lol.

I would expect mostly Splatoon and Arms and then some additional info on other game(s) but not necessarily a ton. Better to expect that and be happily surprised if there is more! :)

(And I will continue to encourage you to view previous Directs and Iwata Asks, they are very enjoyable to read and watch!)

shoot sorry no. I can't remember what threads I was reading and I usually don't sub to anything that's not a community thread.

NP, just couldn't find it - which makes me wonder if maybe it was something very similar and then this could be the exact title? I think it's only moderately possible though.
