I dont need that goofy hipster Fantano ever validating my taste in hip hop. Period. Point Blank. He doesnt understand the genre, he's a window watcher, an outsider looking in and he always will be.
I havnt listened to one of his reviews in the past year. Him & Pitchfork have about much authority on rap as any of yall that post here.

Why does it have to be about validation? He presented a pretty good review with well supported arguments and critiques.

''Most in-depth Kendrick review on the market'' my ass. Anthony really lost respect from me with this and the Radiohead video, seems like I'm better off enjoying stuff without his shitty opinions.

The only thing wrong about his Radiohead video is Amnesiac being overrated

Yuuuup. Dude is boo boo. Didn't know hip hop heads actually used this guy as a barometer. Maybe if you're curious about the new Weezer or some shit...

psh...30th... step your game up.

i'm trying!

I'm okay that he didn't like it as much as me. I think he'd probably do well to give it a few more spins. Some foods require a bit more time to marinate before pulling it out of the oven, knaamean? This album stays winning.

King of Limbs at the bottom had me laughing out how ridiculous it was.

I legit cannot stand TKOL.

The live version? Slightly better, but god what a disappointment that record was after In Rainbows. It's the most non-essential Radiohead album next to Pablo Honey and it's incredible that they could put out as fantastic of an album as A Moon Shaped Pool after it.

The conversation earlier in this thread about people hoping the "second Kendrick album" theory was real just cause they're disappointed with this one? Yeah to me I honestly thought that when it came to TKOL.

TKOL is sure as fuck better than both Pablo Honey and The Bends. The live version is some of the best material they've done too, but this is not really a conversation for this thread.

For real for real

I dont always agree with Fantano, especially on this album, but he always gives clear and intentional reasons why something didnt work for his opinion. Something I wish more GAFers would do.

Really enjoy this album but I agree with Fantano in that this album isn't as focused as Kendrick's previous albums, which is probably by design. I would give the album about an 8/10, alot of great moments but it dosen't reach the highs of TPAB.

You're being a child, 'point blank'. The irony is you're hoisting K to be the authority on music and disparaging any critique.

Feels like people that have the harshest things to say about Fantano are usually the ones saying his opinions don't matter. Not that they're wrong, but it shouldn't bother you that much.

In my experience people who say the harshest things about Fantano are the ones who recently found out he participates in a video called "QUESTIONS WHITE MEN HAVE FOR SJWs!"

Pffft

Why comprehensively break down your opinion on an album over a 20 minute video essay when you could just post a GIF of either something on fire or the letter L

I'm really not feeling that DNA video honestly. Doesn't feel like it encapsulate the passion I got from the song itself. Maybe something thematically about it is going over my head but it doesn't seem like it. Especially after Humble, i'm a lil sad about it. Maybe it'll grow on me

So, I think I'm starting to really turn around on the record after a few days of listening to it. I'd place it below TPAB but I think I'd put it up there with GKMC for me and how I rank his albums. DNA is such a visceral track

Yepppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp.

I just love the fact that after each album Kendrick doesn't feel the need to be cornered into a sound or a concept. GKMC was the ultimate "come up" record detailing his rise to that point, TPAB is one of the most heavy conceptual albums I've heard dealing with society/fame/race/America, and now Damn is an inward reflection on Kendrick's place in the world from his own scattered perspective. Still dissecting.

Of course he's wonderful at keeping all these perspectives personal, yet relevant. Couldn't be happier.

I really liked the DNA video. A lot of raw energy with an appropriate sprinkling of esoteric shots like the women driving by and the shot of him waking up in the casket.
