Just musing on the fact he was a cool character that was ultimately wasted on setting up Buu.

I wouldn't even mind seeing the Demon Realm be used as a setup in a "filler" episode where there is a power struggle for a new king which eventually moves to Earth and gives the cast something to fight even if ultimately they aren't a threat.

In one of the Super Excited Guides AT says that the Demon Realm has their own gods that are the opposite of the Kaioshin and govern evil over there. I would love to see that explored further.

A demon realm god of destruction? Now that sounds like an insane threat.

Sort of?

xD

Granted it's probably never going to appear in Super.

I'm not going to lie, the whole scene when this dude shows up made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I'll spoiler tag it just in case.
SSB Goku out of nowhere ready to return the favour, yo!

Goku ruins everything. :( At least with XV1, you could beat Demigra before he arrives. Whereas Goku will always show up in XV2 against Mira.

Finally got around to the latest episode, it was solid. The non piccolo/gohan scenes were the best though. They better follow up on that Piccolo/Gohan combo move in the tournament! The Yamcha scene was amazing.

Yeah, but apparently they are weaker than the Kaioshin in power, but that could easily be retconed or changed if they ever brought it in the show.

Here's all the things Herm had to say about the Demon Realm over on Kanzenshuu

II. The Demon Realm
魔界/Makai
Translation: demon world, demon realm
AKA: 悪魔界/akumakai ("Devil Realm"), 暗黒魔界/ankoku-makai ("Demon Realm of Darkness")
Other Names: the Underworld, the Netherworld, the Spirit World (all various fansubs)

The Demon Realm is the lower half of the living world, a dimension that exists on the reverse side of the universe. It's not to be confused with Hell, which exists in the afterlife. According to Daizenshuu 7, it's a chaotic place where magic has more influence than science. The Kaio/shin themselves don't really understand the Demon Realm, as not even the gods' eyes can reach it. As a result, not much is known about it other then that it is the home of evil life-forms. Records still survive of these life-forms interfering with the peace of the universe's planets. In fact, one of the factors in the nations of the DB Earth unifying into a single world state was to guard against this threat from the Demon Realm.

Like the universe with its division between the four cardinal directions, the Demon Realm is divided into several different spatial areas, though it's unknown how many there are or what these divisions are based on. Either way, all these areas are unified under the rule of Dabra, the king of the Demon Realm and far and away its strongest resident, according to Kaioshin. Or at least they were, until Dabra was brainwashed by the wizard Babidi into becoming his servant. Dabra's been working for Babidi for at least the last 300 years, and it's not known who if anyone has taken control of the Demon Realm in Dabra's absence.

According to Toriyama in the recent Super Exciting Guides, the Demon Realm has its own special gods called Makaio and Makaioshin ("Kings of the Demon Realm" and "Gods of the Kings of the Demon Realm", respectively). They're the antitheses of the Kaio and Kaioshin, and govern evil. Whenever one of the Shinjin (the special race that Kaio and Kaioshin are selected from) is born with an evil heart, they leave the Shinjin's planet and go to be with the Makaio. However, it's unknown whether the Makaio/shin themselves are selected from among these delinquent Shinjin, or whether they are beings who have always existed in the Demon Realm and simply ally themselves with evil Shinjin. It's also not known whether Dabra himself was a Makaio/shin, or if he was simply a political ruler of the Demon Realm rather than a god (like the difference between the Earth's World King and its God). At any rate, Toriyama says that currently the power of the Kaioshin is greater than that of the Makaioshin.

In the manga we never officially see the Demon Realm, but when Gohan and Dabra are fighting Babidi teleports them to some different world, one of rocky plains and blood-red water. Since Babidi transported his other henchmen Pui Pui and Yakon to their respective home worlds during their fights with Goku and co., it seems likely that this is the Demon Realm. Also, when Dabra dies Enma Daio sends him to Heaven on the reasoning that he'd be happy to go to Hell. This implies that Hell and the Demon Realm are similar, and in fact the place where Gohan and Dabra fight does somewhat resemble Hell as seen in the anime. Also, the two realms are positioned similarly in their respective worlds: Hell at the bottom of the afterlife, and the Demon Realm at the bottom of the living world.

The Demon Realm also figures into the anime filler showing Goku's journeys while training for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai, made years before the Demon Realm was ever mentioned in the manga (though "Demon World" is a fairly generic term that pops up in lots of manga and anime, so it's use here is probably a coincidence). In DB episode 81, Goku visits a village being attacked nightly by beings from the Demon Realm. In another premonition of things to come, the inhabitants of the Demon Realm are called majin in this episode, with females being called majo, literally "demon woman" but generally used to mean "witch". These fiends are coming from the Demon Realm Gate, a portal linking the living world to the afterlife, and located in a cave connected with the Demon Realm. This portal is only supposed to be used by grim reapers, who are authorized to do so by Enma Daio and God (mentioned in yet another bit of unintentional foreshadowing).

A Demon Realm martial artist named Shura jams a cursed sword into the gate to keep it open, allowing him and his fellow fiends to come and go freely between the Earth and Demon Realm. Eventually Goku manages to set all this right, mostly by grabbing a princess Shura had kidnapped and running away very fast. This filler version of the Demon Realm has several inconsistencies between the Demon Realm that later figures in the Boo arc (such as the Demon Realm apparently being part of the afterlife), but it's still a neat little side story.

When Piccolo does his special beam canon, Gohan grabs Piccolo hands to give him his energy for the SBC.

Considering they seem to have been at war with each other for 300 year or so, it wouldn't take much explaining if they all got stronger. Wouldn't even require a retcon.

Something big is about to happen if I'm thinking about NEP on a tuesday haha.

I feel like most of the NEP will be the
double fight,
with the last 3 seconds teasing that
one on one fight,
so I'm not really excited for the NEP.

Episode 90 will serve as a nice celebration of finals being over.

There's some good material in DBH. I don't know if this is from Heroes but I'd like to see this be the design for U6 Namekians.

Their combo attack will be Piccolo telling Gohan that he's proud of him and that, as far as he's concerned, Gohan is his real son. This allows Gohan to unlock a new level of power, Mystic God Mystic, which he focuses into a Masenko.

Gohan will finally learn how to DODGE

He was like four.

I didn't say it was a bad thing he couldn't do anything right, he's 4 and that's understandable. It just doesn't make sense to single out dodging, when that would be the last thing that comes to mind in the many things he was bad at.

He did a few things right. His fight with Vegeta was great. He hurt Nappa a little.

I never understood why that needed to be a parody. I never had the impression Gohan had trouble dodging in the saiyan saga, his problem in the saiyan saga was doing anything competently.

It's only valid in TFS's canon. The jokes are cute in the show. Doesn't make sense outside of it.

My friend all you've done is ensure I will say it even more, should've dodged my post.

Just saying, TFS memes have become a poison to decent discussion within the community. Not really so much on this board but other places.

Poison? I don't know what places you go to, reddit is mostly shit for any real discussion by design and kanzenshuu's problem is people getting far too worked up over the show, TFS memes are near the bottom of the list. The only place I see them show up a LOT is YouTube comments and no sane person should be part of that, it's fuckin YouTube.

Dragon Ball Abridge is the Monty Python of the Dragon Ball community. While funny, it has been quoted and abused so many time that you get sick of it.

I had good discussions with people on reddit over Dragon Ball. And while I like Kanzenshuu for its information, that community as a whole has a giant stick up their butts. They're still crying about Krillin and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku despite the episode explaining why it happened and there is where the 'power levels has been retcon' theory gets the most traction. Especially since they try to say the anime's power scaling is trying to be closer to the Super manga, which has Super Saiyan God, as its own form and Toriyama changed his mind about a major plot point Battle of Gods, but didn't tell anyone at Toei until Future Trunks or something. And the Super writers don't talk to each other, which is why power levels are so off.

Honestly, Kanzenshuu for the last couple of months is everything I hate about the Dragon Ball community. There were much cooler before that Super Saiyan Goku vs. Super Saiyan Gohan fight.

I hope we see the demon realm though i believe we will see a short arc in U6 first or deal with the aftermath of the Zeno tournament.

Speaking of. Demon Realm needs something else than being evil because the Gods and Mortals of the light world aren't exactly Saints

Dabura may be just king of one species of demon from U7. A relatively weak species.

If Demon's are to be fleshed out more, I'd have to imagine there are some Demons on par with the Angels.

Nah, he was said to be the king of the entire Demon realm and also the strongest one there. They could easily dodge that statement by saying it was actually 300 years outdated though, since Dabura has been under Babidi's control since then, so other people could have become stronger and took over while he wasn't there.

Heroes uses old demons revived (like Dabura's/Towa's grandfather) and new god transformations as an excuse to explain powerful foes from there.

The newest set of Avatars in Heroes are demons, and they're even using the default Hero one as a standalone story character too, which is kind of odd for an "avatar". Dragonball Fusions also had a few minor characters that were from the Demon Realm, like an idol and an honorable swordsman.

It's also been years since Dabura was king of them, with Babidi taking over him. Anything can happen in that time frame.
But yeah, with different universes anything can change with the demons if they ever wanted to go that route.

Good point. I can also imagine that King might be a title reserved for top Demon not including Demon-Gods who rank higher. Those Demon Gods likely keep a lower profile kind of like Whis.

maybe the joke is that Gohan doesn't dodge Nappa's ki attack and Piccolo has to take it for him

instead of, you know, pushing Gohan out of the way

I think they just made it up to have a joke they could play off of throughout the entirety of their parody and wasn't supposed to be based on an actual thing that makes sense to point out in the source material.

It should be used well when Gohan takes that attack for Vegeta at least.
And when he gets absorbed by Buu in 10 years when they get there.
I don't think it made sense early on, but there's good material later.

Man the dub is so far behind =( ...

European dubs powered through most episodes, I think the french dub is already past champa arc with 5 episodes a week. They just aired the Future Trunks preview.

The funny thing is that it's the same voice actor that does adult Trunks and adult Gohan in France.

I can't wait to see how they survive the Trunks/Gohan episode.
