New Hellboy Movie Coming

Probably just taking the basic idea

The setting sounds like it would be a perfect fit for Marshall

Either way I am hyped. If the hellboy movie does great I know the B.R.P.D spinoff is coming

edit: Hellboy investigating stuff in Europe with the B.R.P.D gang is already the perfect set up. Just throw in one of the Great witches/baba and you got one hell of a villainess.

I'm gonna miss the hell out of Del Toro and Pearlman, but Marshall/Harbour sounds like a great combo.

I can't be upset at that

No Del Toro or Ron Perlman is a real bummer. I hope this movie is good but having neither of them is such a kick in the balls. I remember watching the first movie when I 10 and was sick and caught the movie on like cinemax at like 3am and have been in love with the movie and character since. I just have a hard time picturing anyone other than Perlman playing him.

Mike Mignola is the best person to have on this project.

that is what I am saying.

Del Toro put out some nice cheesy movies, but they were so far off from the Mignola universe.

I always found hellboy hooking up with liz weird. He found her when she was a kid. she is his Robin.

Del Toro got Abe/Liz.Hellboy casting spot on though, and the whole conqueror worm was done well for introduction.

I'm OK with this.

I do love Del Toro and Perlman, but I do love that guy from Stranger things too and think he'll probably do a good job (just needs the right makeup).

As long as this movie isn't a full retread of all the same stuff from the first two movies I'll be happy (hated that Spiderman reboot, even if it did have a different villain, the movie as a while was such a boring repeat of the origin stuff all of the world knows already).

I'm sure they'll redo the origin flashback and probably have some team member stuff, but the first movie kept that stuff to a minimum too, so I hope they keep it brisk in this too.

Mike Mignola is on the script. so at least fans might get something that they want.

If anything if this is R it might be more faithful to the spirit of the source material.

I loved the first two movies, but I felt they missed the true creepy aspect of it all.

Blood Queen seems weird as a first movie. Though retreading the nazis again sounds counter-productive.

As long as the nazis are not the main focus then we good.

I personally think the nazis were the weakest aspect of the series, and after volume 3 it really opened up.

I guess. But I would like a story with a smaller scope as the basis for the first movie, like Wolves of St. August or something similar. On the other hand I know shit about movies or franchises, that may be an awful idea and going with something that gives a broader look into the world and themes of the universe is the better choice.

This. I loved the movies cause Perlman was great.

Tonally though it felt nothing like the comics.

Hellboy would be really amazing with a showtime/HBO budget with multiple seasons. That way we get all the stand alone stories along with the major plot points.

That being said, it would be hard to put in a movie because of the stand alone nature, and being a minor story in the grand scheme of things.

I know the biggest fanboy and lore expert on GAF Donniewahlberg will bless us with some great analysis/thoughts.

A reboot? Not Hellboy 3? No Guillermo Del Toro? No Ron Perlman?

Umm?
Nothing wrong with any of those, imo. The 2 films were ok, but I look forward to an R-rated version and Perlman is too old and is more likely to phone in a performance than not. GDT is hardly the only director who can tackle an adaption.

I agree. I'm skeptical anyone will care about this reboot but it would be even easier for audiences to ignore if it was just all the elements of the previous two films but 9 years later. Mignola on script, Marshall is a solid director, and Harbour will be fine in a role like this. Nothing about this immediately makes me go "Uh oh."

I hope they stick with Mignola's vision as closely as possible. Del Toro took surprisingly few cues from the actual style and feel of the comic, which made the films feel...wrong, somehow. I like them for what they are (pulpy superhero flicks) and Perlman is the man, but those movies where not that...Hellboyish, I guess?

If anything, they should have gone with the Amazing Screw-On Head approach and made it animated. Hell, get some people able to somewhat replicate Mignola's style and do animated adaptations of each book for HBO like that old Spawn show. You can even do guest spots with other animators tackling the short stories.

But whatever, I'm excited to see how they approach this. Del Toro's version was fun and a third movie would've been interesting, but I want to see some goddamn gothic horror and that weird Mignola humor on the screen.

Oh, wow, Neil Marshall and David Harbour is quite an intriguing combination, even though I did enjoy Del Toro/Pearlman. A live action film a closer to the comics would be great.

...I never realized Marshall did The Descent, either, wow. I love the work he did on Black Sails/GoT.

Conqueror Worm would've been a nice choice, especially since it samples everything that makes the book what it is. Nazis, Lovecraft, Giant Robotic Ape, the BPRD, that Anung Un Rama stuff, even Lobster Johnson.

It even works as the beginning of a new Hellboy movie series, too. Just end the movie with Hellboy quitting the BPRD and going off into the world on his own like in the books. From there, you can do pretty much anything.

Was gonna bitch and moan about no Perlman, but it's very easy to picture Harbour as Hellboy.

Cautiously optimistic. I enjoyed both Hellboy flicks.

Oh man, are they taking some stuff from The Wild Hunt?

Because the whole thing about Hellboy being
King Arthur's descendant and the Rightful King of Britain™
might be a bit tough to spring onto people right away.
Nobody click the spoiler tags if you haven't read the volumes mentioned. major spoilers.

Not necessarily as they were barely featured in the original film.... they're literally in the opening for like 5 minutes and that's it

Would LOVE a proper treatment ala Wolfenstein :)

Fuckin, god dammit.

How does this even make sense? I've read a bunch of the Hellboy and BPRD books and I can't think of a single thing that would make them R-rated. Maybe I'm just forgetting but I don't recall any excessive adult language or sex, and while it's violent it's highly stylized and it doesn't revel in gore.

This doesn't make sense. How the hell was Del Toro not able to get Hellboy 3 made but this is apparently getting green lit?
The budget he wanted for his third movie must have been INSANE if they ended their relationship over it and then went on to give a budget to an r-rated reboot.

I'd love to see a more straight up adaptation of Seed of Destruction. Hellboy existed long before del Toro so I'm not too bummed about director change.

I would personally not give a fuck if they rebooted it, but do it AFTER Hellboy 3 please! I wanna know how that story ends! THEN do this one! I think the Stranger Things guy could make a great Hellboy but I really really wanna know how that trilogy was supposed to wrap up ):

Normally I might agree with you but come on, this is Hellboy. Perlman loves the character and has been campaigning for Hellboy 3 for years. I'd think it would be something he'd be really greatful to get the chance to do and he'd put a lot into it.

No Del Toro is one thing, but no Perlman and (presumably) low budget, that makes me a bit more hesitant. Maybe it will be good. We'll see.

I do not understand how either of those garbage movies warrant a sequel. Hellboy fucking sucks.
