Twin Peaks Season 3 - Teaser Trailer 'It's Happening Again'

I still haven't read the book. I ordered it and it arrived today but I'm somewhat reluctant to actually read it, these sort of explanations aren't really my thing and I'm doubtful I'd actually enjoy it. Plus Lynch is ignoring it too. :s

It's a fun read and beautifully published. Even if it doesn't end up serving as canon its a nice way to be reacquainted with the universe of Twin Peaks. The audio book also has kyle and a few others voicing but I think given how it's published it's more suited as a printed piece.

Am I crazy for thinking this show fits much better in the current era of TV than when it originally aired.

Not at all, considering how many currently running shows wear its influence on their sleeves. This is the perfect time for it to come back.

And he seemed to hint on twitter that the changes were something deliberate, and not just him forgetting things.

I find it hard to believe he'd retcon Annie out of existence, since the very end of the show -- literally the last words! -- and Cooper's whole fate are all tied directly to Annie.

I'm thinking alternate timelines/parallel dimensions myself to explain retcons like Annie. The ultimate question for me is how the hell Laura/Sheryl is being figured into the season. I'm skeptical they're going to do another Maddie lookalike thing. Lynch has said Laura's murder is still a strong theme in this season, so I'm thinking she
may be getting out of the Lodge.

I seriously considered getting the audio book version because of the cast but yeah, printed seemed like a better fit.

Well, I'll give it a read don't worry. The timing's right and it does look beautiful.

No, because there is a whimsical tone threaded through Twin Peaks that is based on the cheesy Soap Operas of the 1980s. That nostalgia for those shows doesn't exist now.
If TP was being created now, it would be full on serious and all the worst for it.

If the book is all false then why did we bother reading it?

I got the audio book and regretted it by the end. MacLachlan's performance is pretty poor (it might have been on purpose, but he didn't sound like he was playing Coop) and half the actors aren't voicing their characters - David Patrick Kelly voices Gordon Cole and doesn't even do THE VOICE, which I guess makes some kind of sense since he's reading his letter BUT, REALLY, WHAT'S THE POINT IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DO THE VOICE.
It was really nice to hear Jacoby and Hawk (who's a bit of a potty mouth in the book) and that's about it, performance-wise.

Yeah I read impressions along these lines, seems like they recorded it in somewhat of a hurry. That sort of of stuff does turn me off quite a bit.

You gotta do the voice. He'd do it even when he's reading a letter dammit! If it doesn't involve Shelly a lack of the voice in unacceptable.

Anyway, I do think I'll grab a copy of the audio version somewhere down the line, if only to make it part of my collection. I need to get the new audio version of The Secret Diary Of Laura Palmer too, I hear Sheryl Lee does a great job, though I'd expect no less.

But yeah, book form for now sounds good to me.

I'm really excited for the discussion and speculation this show will generate in the age of social media. If it able to create a mystery akin to the whodunit surrounding Laura palmer's murder coupled with weekly discussions on platforms like neogaf it should be quite the journey.

I think Twin Peaks happened at the right time. It's influence has certainly been felt even 25 years later, I don't think many wouldn't agree that Twin Peaks has been highly influential and certainly helped shape the current TV landscape.

However, I do think this third season is also happening at just the right time and there's certainly appeal into going into a third season of TP in the modern era. I look forward to the week-by-week internet discussions.

Still can't believe it. I've introduced my girlfriend to Twin Peaks, we have like seven episodes left I think we can smash through them and FWW before this starts.

I will be signing up to Now TV just to watch this can't wait!

I don't normally get hyped. In fact I'm mostly anti hype guy: but I'm hyped as hell for this.

18 hours of Lynch and Frost. The return of one of the most influential TV shows ever.

2 hour pilot which is basically like getting a new Lynch film.

Can't wait.

I was thinking this too - it would be a nice way to tie the supernatural and soap opera storylines together in the end, by
having the old townsfolk come to terms with Laura "back from the dead" (assuming her return isn't kept secret from them).

It's one theory, though it could be even just
Laura in the Lodge or dream sequences. But it could be something more substantial too, it's up in the air. Ray Wise is also in the new season, so interested to see what they do with him too. I know one popular theory I could get behind is he might be the new face of BOB, but we shall see I guess.

It's going to be miserable. TV audiences especially have been trained to look for "deeper meaning" in shit and what's really going on in like deeper hidden Easter eggs. Can you imagine if they tried to do that with Garmonbozia?

"Oh man bro do you think Pete Martell owns a Cream Corn factory??? Who owns the convenience store????? Do you think BOB is Bobby Briggs from the future????"

Lynch is about deep and unsettling mystery, not the Pepe Sylvia conspiracy boards that TV watchers are obsessed with crowing about in the 21st Century.

It is going to suuuuuuuuuck.

It really scared me. They looked really alarmed.

This shit is what actually scared me the most:

Looks kinda like a young Leo Johnson lol

I agree that it's going to be painful, but not because people will search for "deeper meaning" (that sounds fine to me). They will want easy answers, linear storytelling, fast pacing and for events to "really" take place in "the real world."
Buckle up, we're getting unsolvable mysteries, convoluted structure, shots lingering on the most mundane actions for all eternity and by the end it might have been all a dream. Oh, and it won't be a nostalgia trip. People who hated Fire Walk With Me are gonna be pissed if any of the parts take place entirely outside Twin Peaks.

Well they
shot down the block from me in Brooklyn
so buckle up lol

For the most part I'll probably avoid discussions online, including GAF. More than figuring out the plot and mysteries, I just want to appreciate Lynch's audio-visual style as I did with the show and movie. Analyzing everything zaps a bit of the fun IMO.

Plus I get the feeling Lynch just imagines random shit and puts it in a script without thinking what it means. The red room was probably something he dreamt up in the shower or something.

The red room was probably something he dreamt up in the shower or something.
Pretty much, but with less water and more hot metal.

"As the director explained in Lynch on Lynch, "I was leaning against a car — the front of me was leaning against this very warm car. My hands were on the roof and the metal was very hot. The Red Room scene leapt into my mind. 'Little Mike' was there, and he was speaking backwards ... For the rest of the night I thought only about the Red Room."

I dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if she just shows up once or twice in the Red Room like when we last saw her.

But the book is all presented as an in-universe dossier, so it's not really clear whether these are actual retcons or inconsistencies/mistakes made by the author.

Frost was on Twitter suggesting the errors were deliberate. Please don't ask me for the source though, it was months ago and I don't have time to wade through his seemingly endless Louise Mensch retweets.

Also I'll mention this here for those who want to wet the Twin Peaks appetite a bit more before the new season/new trailer released probably, one of the composers for the new season (not the main composer, that's Angelo Badalamenti of course) released an album yesterday (this was brought up in the main TP topic), but for those who want to wet your appetite a bit more Johnny Jewel released an album, "Windswept", which features music he did for the new season of Twin Peaks. You can buy the full album for $1 here: http://italiansdoitbetter.bigcartel.com/product/johnny-jewel-windswept

But they also did some official uploads on the YouTube channel. Here's a few of the songs:

Blue Moon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGMXFRe4wrU
Saturday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybYaONaws9k
Heaven: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxVhLf5Bdjg

Motel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4VsPob4ke0
The Flame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlmwngDSFhQ

All of it is very Twin Peaks-esque, and more on the album/official channel.

Who's that on the cover?

Potentially big spoilers about Laura/Sheryl in S3:

I can tell you based on a shoot I saw that isn't the case ;-)

I think whatever form she takes will not be a one off appearance based on what I saw. There's actually been a few shots from the last two previews from that particular shoot, but you wouldn't know it ofc due to it being another character in frame that she shares the scene with. I don't want to give too much away aside from saying it's def outside the red room.

Oh huh. That could be pretty cool then!

Sad seeing Miguel Ferrer. :(

I wasn't ready.

I had thought he'd be back in it but I hadn't realized what it meant. Was a shock.

I can't wait for season 3, I'm not feeling "excited".

It's like, I never expected it to happen, and so I'm not believing it's back yet. Oddly.

I'll probably get excited when I get around to actually watch it.

I do hope they succeed though, it's a phenomenal show, but I hope they can course correct the initial issues of the show.

And being a "sequel" so late into the game might be a problem, because they need to balance fresh elements and existing "lore". Something FWWM didn't do at all for "newcomers".

The only thing they need to really "fan service" is Cooper and his mental breakdown. And How's Annie. :p

Indeed :)

FWWM spoilers:
Been thinking about the end of the film, particularly when Laura puts the ring on. My initial interpretation was this was a ward against Leland/Bob claiming her soul and thus preventing possession of her body. Now I'm wondering if it had a dual effect of potentially binding her doppelganger within that body and sending and sheltering "the good Laura" within the Lodge, where we know she's been with good Dale for however long. It doesn't make much sense for the Lodge to be some afterlife waiting room anyhow.

I'm thinking it may be possible for two copies to be floating amongst the living,
as partially evidenced by the Philadelphia FBI office scene with Coop seeing his doppel briefly in the security monitor. Also Jeffries says "who do you think this is there" pointing to Coop. That part puzzles me though, has Coop had some prior contact with the Lodge in some way, perhaps related to the trauma of the episode between Windom and Caroline? Or maybe the Lodge denizens had already taken a shine to him in some soul scouting way and had already fashioned some sort of manifestation that Jeffries spied during his "long lost" hiatus. I can't believe some of these things may finally have answers so soon after so long.

I took that to mean that
time doesn't work the same in the Lodge as in reality - like when later on, good Coop tells Laura not to take the ring (even though in reality he hasn't entered the Lodge yet). Maybe Jeffries saw good Coop there too?

Good point, could just be related to time jumps between the two. His dream in episode 2 I take it is supposed to be more vision than transportation, where he sees himself as older. I imagine the time discrepancies are going to be a big part of the new season.
