Lets not forget that was base form Gohan too. But yeah it clearly shows Goku's flaws leaving Tien open to Gohan's attack. This has been a recurring theme with Goku and I can't help but think its a foreshadowing for whats to come. Would be extremely interesting to see Goku sidelined early due to not understanding team work.

Which actually adds to how smart it is that Gohan is the leader. Great choice by Goku. Gohan will be better at juggling things and strategizing

Goku is gonna focus on Jiren and fuck up by letting the others be open for attacks by everyone else. Let's not forget pretty much every other universe wants to take U7 down.

I'm pretty sure that's Goku's reasoning. He understood he screwed up while Gohan was really smart in the 2-on-2 fight and allowed Piccolo to do his thing. Also, that way Goku doesn't need to be the one thinking about strategy, he can just focus on punching really, really hard.

Gohan, Roshi, or Piccolo were better choices as team leader than Goku.

Yeah man, one of the coolest parts of the episode was seeing Gohan/Piccolo's teamwork, especially compared to Goku/Tien's. I loved that Gohan was going all out but also had "you will not fucking touch Piccolo" as a top priority.

How many Tenshinhans does it takes to screw in a lightbulb?
Trick question. He gets his ass beat before he can touch the lightbulb.

Alternative answer:
Three. One to hold the ladder, one to hold the bulb, and the other to spam Kikouhou and do no lasting damage.

Alternative alternative answer:
Every new Tenshinhan just divides his lightbulb abilities once more so he'll never be able to do it no matter how many there are.

Fine, with all those DBS topics on GAF you got me to continue watching this from Episode 23ish on, again.

Tsk.

No. DONT.

Watch the Frieza movie and then jump to 28

23-27 is the absolute lowest point of super and it's just a retelling of that movie

Man, people really loathe the movie remakes, huh? I liked the Beerus remake better than the movie, at least once it actually gets going (episode 10 or so). I like the Golden Freeza art a bit better too, although it really needed
to inflate Tamago to a sub-arc, and somehow make it so that Piccolo's death is the reason they have to get the Super Dragonballs for the U6vsU7 tournament.

I like the Super version of Battle of Gods, but I'd definitely take the movie version of RoF any day over the Super one.
And while we're at it, bring those outfits back please.

Take a minute to sit back and think about this

Goku and Tien vs Piccolo and Gohan

Followed by Mystic Gohan vs Goku

10 years ago a situation like this would have been a dream. Great fight!

Cool episode, but the animation of the fight was a bit boring :/. I like how Gohan acts like he's gonna keep doing shit after this arc. We all know deep down it's back to reading books for him when this is all over.

I love how the discussion going into this is still who's the strongest when the shows last couple of episodes has clearly focused on strength not being the most important measure here and team work mattering a lot more. Exemplified by Goku telling Tien to focus on piccolo but Gohan protecting him so he could finish charging his move.

I'm with you on this too. Dragonball's always made a big deal of clothes, whether through battle damage, costume changes, or Goku's costume gradually changing. They should have their RoF costumes and then they should be blown off.

Gohan juggling the both of them was pretty awesome. I imagine he'll be doing something similar during the tournament, running around and making sure no one gets too overwhelmed.

Great fight imo.

Seems like it was just meant to throw up dust.

Also base Gohan equals SSJ2 Goku and Ultimate Gohan approaches SSJB Goku. I bet be could beat SSJB Vegeta handily.

If Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta worked together they could probably kill Beerus.

Gohan did well but I didn't see anything in that episode that supports this. He got pretty easily fucked by SSB. He still has a long way to go, but I'm glad he's progressing.

I mean, Tien tried two attacks - a punch and a Tribeam - and both get interrupted. All he did was distract Gohan slightly for like a second in total. That's not a power issue, that's a goddamn Tien step your fucking game up issue.

No, because he did nothing during the battle, even when they were in base.
But it was Gohan who stopped him from doing anything. Where was Goku and why did he allow Piccolo to do his thing?

It was more than "Goku is not a good team player" thing than a "Tenshinhan is a joke" thing.

There need to be some (more?) Super OST's already---the music is consistently killing it throughout each arc.

-That damn tease on Roshi finally teaching Goku some new moves---there's still about 4 hours, come on~

-Gohan getting some thunder/plasma doings bodes well.

-Neat to see Goku using Buu's strategy that cost him the win from some eps back---learning~

-They could've at least let Tien get one hit in, a parry, something---every single other character has at least got that much thus far. :/

Overall enjoyable episode---just hope they can follow through on the rest of the supporting cast and up the ante a bit to fully bring back the best of the original series and Z where diversity was king.

Very important. I could see Goku's hunger for battling the most powerful person turning out to be his ultimate flaw in this tournament. As such, it would end up making Gohan, who appears to better understand not just the importance of teamwork, and who is also apparently no longer being careless and overconfident to the point that he's leaving himself open for attacks that realistically should present no trouble if not for the already well documented arrogance, arguably the most important fighter for U7 in this tournament?

I'M GOING TO STAND HERE IN PLAIN SIGHT AND AIM MY TRIBEAM
MAYBE I'LL FIRE IT IN A FEW MINUTES I DUNNO
BOY I SURE HOPE NO ONE NOTICES AND FUCKING DESTROYS ME

Is it tien's fault tho ?

" hey tien I got this , focus on piccolo "

Meanwhile Goku gets sent flying away, doesn't use instant transmission and lets Tien getting destroyed multiple times by Gohan.

Yeah, battle damage and visible injuries need to comeback.

If Goku was fully clean and had perfect clothes during his fight with Frieza it would've felt compeletely different. Imagine that. ugh...

Wasn't Vegeta stronger than goku during the trunks arc?

Hopefully not. Toei have wanted him to be relevant for a while and after a year of Super he's gained main character status along with Goku. Toei in general seem to want to adjust with several characters including Goten and Trunks and it's really the right call since DB is making a lot of money and will be ongoing for the foreseeable future.

Now all TOEI needs to do is greenlight a bunch of new Ultimate Gohan figures

I don't call getting two hits in as trading blows equally.

there's a lot of assuming and reaching going on here lately lol. About everyone's power levels, how hard people try, etc.

I already said Goku isn't a great barometer for anyone, and fighting for 2 seconds doesn't indicate anything unless explicitly stated.

Or are we back to arguing SSJ3 Goku was as strong as Buutenks?? -_-

We just had battle damage tho

Hard to believe that's nearly 30 episodes ago

true, that was nice. The clothes are at least.
The skin though? eh. I know they don't want to do blood anymore but still could be better.

What DBZ did well was use it as an indicator for damage progressing. (Gohan vs Buutenks or Goku v Freiza is a great example) During that Trunks arc people would get one shotted and be out apparently, and then come back, and then be out. You couldn't tell who was actually hurt. Then they finally did battle damage for the end but by that point...

Gohan was definitely competing evenly with Blue, even if for only a very brief moment in time. If Gohan can land those attacks as he did against Blue, and even receive some right back like he did, I don't see it as entirely impossible that he could fight for much longer against SSB Goku.

Would he be able to maintain it over a longer period of time? Hard to say, but he definitely looked amazing.

Damn, yeah I hope somehow Tien doesnt make it to the tournament, not only is he insignificant, he's a little scared bitch. I'd rather have yajirobe or mr satan on the team tbh at least they're entertaining.

But damn, that was a great episode. Excited to see what they're going to do with Gohan, seems like between him and trunks they're going towards each saiyan not following the same path as Goku which is great. Also might breath some life into Vegeta if he's able to do his own thing instead of trail ever so slightly behind goku.
