Scorpio, does it launch in time for Destiny 2? (and if not that will really suck)

I don't see any particular reason for not launching in September. But they will maintain tradition

They could launch alongside Shadow of War with the marketing deal.

Holiday 2017 was at the end of the E3 trailer 2016
Beside that, they also said fall in some interviews and talking about the console

As i said. Both is possible.
You just can be sure it won't be before September and it won't be after mid Novemver

Xbox one S 2 tb was August 2nd
500gb and 1 tb was mid September not mid August

I'll remain skeptical about the actual release date until we get it, but I don't think it's impossible for it to be before September. Also, the 500Gb and 1Tb One S were late August in the US:

If it is 2 months later, most of the early D2 teething bugs and issues will be ironed out....hopefully...

Scorpio will be the Definitive Console version, so if it means waiting a bit for that....so be it.

The only way the Scorpio version is the definitive version is if it's 60 fps .

forgot about that, yeah

"Middle-earth: Shadow of War · Release date Aug 22, 2017"

So one would have to assume at the latest it would be is Aug 22?

I have my doubts, Sony is moneyhatting Destiny 2 so I bet it will only be enhanced slightly if at all on Scorpio, compared to what it might look like on the Pro.

I dont expect some gigantic difference vs Pro

I dont care what it looks/runs like for PS, hopefully its as good as possible for those people.

For my sake, I want my first experience with D2 to be through Scorpio on my super shiny new TV

Phil mentioned they were ahead of schedule, so I think September/October is definitely a possibility.

I'd think they'd want to launch with Forza 7 and Crackdown as close as possible if NATO day one and Forza will almost definitely be releasing in September. I'd be shocked if they sent Crackdown out to die in November so I think Crackdown could potentially be August.

I remember him saying that but we don't know what their schedule is or how much they are ahead. I can maybe see them launching in October along with Crackdown as a showpiece title for the platform. I don't see launching in August, that just seems too early for a game with almost no coverage.

I don't think they will launch Crackdown this Holiday with so many online focused AAA 3rd party games. Q1 2018

Would be a huge mistake after delaying the game again, especially after canceling Scalebound earlier this year. Would be better to market the hell out of the game to allow it to stand out. It's not a Gears, Halo, or Forza though, so I expect minimal marketing from MS.

I think you're grossly overestimating the importance of this stuff.

There's like what, 30 million standard XB1 users? That's where people are gonna be playing D2 on day 1. Whatever Scorpio moves first week is gonna be peanuts compared to that. These mid gen refreshes are a niche product

I feel your pain OP. Been wondering the same thing myself. Hopefully the Scorpio release date will at least get bumped up to early October.

It will be very tough to market an online shooter in November vs COD and Battlefront.

It has sucked for basically every single game that came out this generation assuming you have a PC and PS4 so I don't see what the big deal is now. I actually doubt the scorpio version will even be remotely better than the PS4 pro version. You saw what Bungie did with the last game and made them identical aside from the extra shit they left out of the xbox version because of the comarketing.

its not about being better than ps4 pro

Its about do we think MS will push the release date forward to give people a reason to upgrade a month earlier than they normally would to try and give players that awesome first experience in D2

No matter what happens with D2, I know my experience will not be any different except the game will suddenly look alot better when my scorpio is plugged in, Im just hoping I get that Day 1 experience.

That's why they should launch in October and market the hell out of it. Plus it's an open world game so it doesn't directly compete with the shooters in the market.

Why rush their entire plan for this one game? The scorpio install base will be tiny compared to the larger xbox one install base whether it is end of summer or the holiday season.

Destiny gives people a reason to want to upgrade, Im not sure why you think they are trying to replace the Xbox One, they sell the same digital copy of the game no matter what.

Lets also not pretend like D2 is just some run of the mill game

I bet they are probably working on a Scorpio version and will launch with Scorpio. I doubt MS will allow Destiny 2 not be available on Scorpio. Of course it will come out later than other versions though. So PS4 will get a leg up for sure.

When did I say they are replacing anything? I'm just saying that nothing says to me that they are ready to release a console in September. A couple big games coming out means nothing compared to the overall push in spending for the holidays. If you think Destiny 2 is bigger than Christmas then you are just as crazy as the people who actually enjoyed the first game.

Huh? The game will be on the Scorpio regardless if Bungie puts any additional effort to it or not. It's a matter of the Scorpio being available for Destiny 2's launch.

Launching in September doesn't stop the holiday rush from happening. There will still be a huge marketing push from October-December regardless.

The game launches on September 8. It won't "launch on Scorpio." You'll put your Xbox One game into the Scorpio and receive any benefits.

(And those expecting it to look much different than the Pro version might want to brace themselves. Activision is not giving Microsoft the best console version of Destiny with their large Sony partnership for the game.)

Wait to buy D2 until Scorpio comes out. The player base will only get bigger over time. And early bugs will be patched. It's better not to buy games at launch in general and this applies even more strongly to a game with minimum 3 yr legs like D2.

So...wait...buy both at the same time = Problem solved.

The Xbox One Scorpio version (and the Xbox One version) of Destiny 2 will be missing some content thanks to deals between Sony and Bungie.

And yeah, if Xbox One Scorpio launches in November like I expect it to, Destiny 2 will likely be out a few months before Xbox One Scorpio anyway.

How does releasing in September hurt Christmas sales?

A resolution bump isn't going to be a game changer anyway.

Unless the game is 60fps on consoles, you won't miss out on much by playing it on PS4 pro or Scorpio.

nothing about this is about PS4 or PS4 Pro

Literally the only thing this thread is about is me hoping that D2 launches with Scorpio so that I can enjoy the upgrade from XBOX ONE to SCORPIO from Day 1, and if anyone thinks that MS will launch in time for that to happen.

amazing we cant keep stuff straight, always gotta be console war shit.

Also this. It'll still be nice if it's running at native resolution on a brand spanking new game though. I mean destiny wasn't even a game that impressed me on a tech or art level. It's like a decent looking cross gen game.

Why is everyone assuming Scorpio is November? To me it makes more sense to release it late September where Forza normally drops, and then it's ready for the fall games. It also seems odd they would market a Scorpio version of Shadow of War that is out in August if the console wasn't until November.

Didn't they say "holiday" 2017? To me that means November or December not September.

I can see it launching earlier then November

September would be a suprise for sure. I would guess October but yeah, I think the earlier MS can drop it and get in before games start releasing will help them.

If you disregard the other reasons I stated above and just focus on the holiday part sure. I'm saying there's reason to believe it could be (late) September

Well you asked why people are assuming the holidays, and the answer is because MS explicitly said the holidays. Sure maybe it could be another time, but that's the info we have.

Scorpio probably won't be in time but it really doesn't matter since it's the same platform, just different hardware.

Early October I think would be the earliest conceivable launch date for Scorpio imo. I dont think we can underestimate "back to school" season. Alot of money will be spent on school supplies, pcs, and college classes from the same target demographic(ages15-35) of the scorpio.
My guess is Friday October 6th. Launches with Forza on same day maybe even Assassins creed or Farcry the same day too.

It'll be easier to go guilt-free on the PC version and abandon my fellow xbros at least assuming D2 beats Scorpio to market, and there's no reason to think that it won't. But hey. Scorpio will be there for COD. So we'll always have that x-bros <3.
