Christ, so much port begging in this thread.
I hope so too. Just wanna be safe since Nintendo LEs are typically hard to find, lol.
Yes Nintendo
Please port this game to Switch, even though the hardware in question is eons apart and it would take a great deal of reworking and money to do, to the point that it would basically be an entirely new development venture
Why won't you do this
Why you mad at Nintendo releasing for 3DS? Nintendo has said the Switch and 3DS are different ecosystems.
Nintendo isnt abandoning the 3DS.
So they decide to do something with the Metroid IP and that is to...
1. remake II of all games. Not I, not Super, but II. Not a statement of quality but if they were picking the best/most acclaimed that's Super and if they wanted to do this as a whole trilogy why not start with I?
2. Hire Mercury Steam to make it, when Mercury Steam basically did the same thing with the Castlevania IP fairly recently with Mirror of Fate with mediocre results. I mean, sure, they're being handed a template and have Nintendo for oversight, but the game would likely both look and play better had they simply hired the guy making AM2R and would have cost a hell of a lot less.
3. Do the remake on the 3DS, where the whole 2.5D asthetic has basically always looked like ass. Effective life of the 3DS remaining aside, this is a style that has consistently failed to translate well to 3DS hardware. The low screen resolution leads to muddy backgrounds, the weak hardware leads to low poly models and the system doesn't have the memory or (again) display resolution to mask those low poly models in quality texturing. In the end the game looks worse than most 2D sprite based games.
Yep. Sounds like Nintendo all right.
Should have paid Wayforward to start with Metroid I and remake the whole 2D history of the franchise. Then it'd look decent on 3DS and would upscale to a Switch release perfectly, letting them really move some software.
Cool post.
The fact that Nintendo keeps announcing games on 3DS even though they have a new portable system is embarrassing.
I mean they already remade 1, and both Zero Mission and Super are still excellent. M2 is dated as fuck.So they decide to do something with the Metroid IP and that is to...

Super Metroid doesn't need a remake. It's already perfect. So they decide to do something with the Metroid IP and that is to...

Wait...why are we mad about Mercury Steam? They are a great dev with lots of potential. Under Nintendo they'll probably be even better.
Remember what happened with Retro and MP1? People were mad at that announcement. Don't be such pessimists.

This game looks good though, so they must have turned something around.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-09-20-castlevania-lords-of-shadow-mercurysteam-konami
Last we heard, the studio was a trainwreck.

Two Metroids in the same day?
Is it the 2000s again!?
Why the hell there are TWO Metroid games announced and I'm dissapointed by both of them?? What the hell...
Time to give Prime series it's 5th chance... maybe the 5th chance will be the one that'll make me like that series...
But this being from Mercury Steam, which made the STEAMING PILE OF SHIT called Mirror of Fate... and the visuals looking this bad (worse than AM2R, a fangame) makes me sad... =(
One of my favorite things about the gameplay: It looks different from Super Metroid. It's trying new things. It's not wearing a game from 1994 like a ball and chain.
I love Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, but I feel like 2D Metroid has been pretty stagnant since Super Metroid perfected the formula. Even if these new ideas don't turn out great, it's nice seeing some ambition again.

Zero Mission is the remake of the first Metroid. Super Metroid doesn't really need a remake because it already looks good. Two needed a remake the most. I don't think it is played as much and it has gameboy grey graphics.
Some still forget that there are over 70 million 3DS out there, and they're not only still selling well, but are releasing a new model soon.
Yet, Nintendo should ignore all that.
3DS and Mercury Steam? Good god Nintendo.
I'm looking forward to this. Can we assume itll.be $40?
Switch lineup is light?I have no issue with them making a few more 3DS games as they sunset the system, but there's no reason this couldn't be cross platform, which would satisfy everyone. Particularly with the Switch lineup being rather light, this would have been a nice addition.
Christ, so much port begging in this thread.
Well there's nothing to say here besides too bad you don't like one of the best gaming series.
AM2R looks as good as it does because they used a lot of sprites from Zero Mission and Fusion.
Yes, it absolutely is. The 3DS is an absolutely archaic piece of hardware at this point, and although I know that the highest install base is on 3DS, there's not really any reason that they shouldn't help boost their Switch portfolio and have it on both systems. Titles like this can help bridge the gap, so to speak. It's not.
The utter bile spewed by Nintendo "fans" and 3DS owners the 2nd day they bought Switch is embarrassing, though. See: Pokemon 3DS and Metroid 3DS threads.

Game itself is ugly but the Gameplay looks good.
I'm just we're getting Metroid again.
