Capcom focused on Monster Hunter: World for West, won't commit to MH:XX localization

The PSP didn't have a successor to move to.
Just in case you are not a troll and you are instead just someone who doesn't know what is talking about, Capcom moved MH from PSP to 3DS and Wii. MH in Nintendo devices sold worse than in PSP during several games until MH4.

Sony released a PSP successor, PS Vita that sold quite well in Japan and would have sold way more with Monster Hunter games on it.

After many MH games released, the best selling MH title is still a PSP game.

I still wonder if they really think they are going to please the MH fanbase with World. And also, if much of that fanbase is actually going to be pleased.

I'm skeptical about Worlds. They way it looks streamlined... In Generations, I felt like there was already too much to do besides the core gameplay and it was confusing and I never really got into the game because of that. But this? I have no desire to scratch my Monster Hunter itch with this. It may be a nice game but having classic MH replaced by it sounds awful.

On one hand, it is likely that Nintendo will pick up the slack like in prior titles.

On the other hand, Capcom runs a big risk of not only pissing off a fanbase that has been built up for years, but also risks dividing the franchise between East v West when they absolutely lack the posture to do so currently.

Unless Worlds makes bank (and to be honest, I have little faith in Capcom figuring why the series is considered impenetrable by the casual audience), this may end up backfiring really badly)

Can't really blame them. I'd probably put the marketing and cash into a new game for the PS4 audience over a re-heated deluxe port of a game that's already been released multiple times.

They'd barely need to market this. And further more, We never got XX in the West. We got X. We usually get the expansion games. It sucks to only get vanilla after it was basically assumed we would get the Ultimate version.

Lol some people are so salty. You guys don't know shit about MH switching platforms, it's nothing new lol. I'm completely fine with it, fans have always followed the series. If XX isnt localized I'll just import it.

Capcom burned the MH bridge with Nintendo, I guess even Ninty was caught by surprise.

I doubt it, Japanese focused Monster Hunter will still be for Switch, unless Capcom is really stupid and thinks the Japanese audience that buys these games in the millions on handhelds aren't important.

I really wanted both games. Oh well.

I'll purchase World next year and hope Nintendo picks up Capcom's slack for XX at some point in the future.

If World is even a modest success in the west, I wouldn't expect future Switch MH titles to leave Japan, but we'll see.

Amazing that Capcom can so consistently make the wrong decisions when it comes to their major franchises, the most recent Resident Evil notwithstanding.

Why abandon the fan base you already have to chase one that has yet to exist? Why not do both?

Because Capcom, that's why.

Edit; Still buying Worlds if it turns out well, but still annoyed if I can't get a traditional MH.

Capcom has an idenity problem. They just can't deal with the fact that people like their "Japanese" games. So they try to "westernize" their games, alienating the millions of fans who like the game in hopes they can sell a few millions more .

I am skeptical. Very skeptical that this can outshine a Destiny 2 or pull people away from Overwatch. Folks like the portabity of MH and the fact it is something different.

By making it like everything else they will ensure it gets swept up with everything else.

And I won't even touch the fan base. Unlike 3ds psp there is no real overlap as one is handheld the other is a console.

But keep making those great decisions Capcom.

3DS #22.786.335
PSV #5.638.361

🤔

(Also any MH future on Vita in the West would be completely non existent.)

Fans sure, but the series biggest western numbers happened with the 3ds. Nintendo marketed Capcom’s own property better. Kinda embarrassing.

Look at what they did with SFV?

And Infinite looks to be another turd at launch.

Monster Hunter XX might be a hard sell in the west given that it's only been a year since Monster Hunter X (so it's not the case like with Monster Hunter 3U where there was a 3-year gap), at least that was diminishing my enthusiasm.

Being on Switch like it is might make it worthwhile.

Wow at the over reaction.

Nintendo is publishing Monster Hunter Stories later this year.
Nintendo published Monster Hunter Generations in 2016.
Nintendo published Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in 2015.
Nintendo published Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate in 2013.

Nintendo will probably published Monster Hunter XX next year.

And by the way, the guy isn't going to tell you "no it's just a little spin off, MH5 is coming next year too"

MH is published by capcom everywhere but europe

Fans had been clamoring for the series to return to Playstation, even Capcom has acknowledged this.

So, mission accomplished.

Again I feel like people are losing their shit prematurely. What is wrong with some of you? This is a non statement at the moment. XX isn't at the show; world is. And even if capcom wants to push world...Nintendo could always publish XX as they have with many titles stuck in Japan in the past. Why is the first reaction to things is to be as mad as possible? How do some of y'all get through your day to day lives? Relax and think things through before losing your minds in rage.
Post E3 threads man. People need something to discuss and this is definitely a hot topic.

Hope Capcom is only trying to maintain the attention to MHW, because would be a huge disappoint if they will not port XX to the west.

World looks interesting, but me and I think a lot of people want to play MH on handheld and would be no-sense to not port XX, especially because the biggest part of the translation has already been done for generations.

Yeah, this is how I feel. I will be buying Worlds and praying to Nintendo to bring us XX. I was really looking forward to it.

There is a difference, this time it is a big gamble.

They will for sure lose a big chunk of sales in Japan with world (not for changing platform but for the reason it is a console game). The big question is, will the West compensate the loss. With luck and good will world could do Tri Wii numbers but looking at the Japanese market and what makes MH big I don't see that coming.

I say no, World looked like a normal MH with some new tweeks. This Game doesn't look like it will double the western audience over night.

Except people in the west who became fans of MH will want to play those games, but Capcom will refuse to do so or legally won't be able to because of their "decision making."

Nintendo EU/UK have even helped with distribution too.

Monster Hunter is competing with Overwatch?

Not Portable 3rd and it was as terrible then as this is now.
It was sad for fans, sure, but Capcom had their motives.

PSP was dead dead, all the MH PSP bombed, and Capcom DID TRY to localize MHP3 HD for PS3, but Sony cock blocked them due to their stupid policies such as online mode and trophies.

MH:XX is not being localized. End of story. Not for 3DS, not for Switch, not for PS4, PC or whatever.

And this time Capcom have no valid excuses, they are just being straight out stupid.

What has Capcom done that affords them this so called chance? If anything if we go by Capcom of the last 10 years or so they are a disaster of a Company that can't seem to get things right for the most part and chase after supposed glory while more often than not basically killing themselves in the process.

a troll it is

It's not trolling to say that MH wouldn't have had the same level of success on Vita. The series alone wouldn't have shipped that many units or pushed the Vita to that level of sales alone.

We wouldn't even be having this conversation. There would have been no Western Vita releases at all.

This isn't close to the same situation either. Switch is tracking more successfully on a global level, the series is continuing on the platform too, they just aren't localizing it.

The games were going for two different audiences and on different platforms.
The hardcore fans were cautiously optimistic and ready to double dip. This kind of messaging now bring them just negative attention.

This is just terrible communication from them, even if it should be expected at this point when you look at their other games (apart maybe from RE)...

And let's stop with the "it's fine Nintendo will solve everything" comments, when they are already busy with the Switch and other stuff. Their job isn't exactly to pay for localization/distribution of DQ/MH/etc titles all while those publishers do it for other platforms. It's good for their platform, but they have no obligation in doing that.

Well... only time will say if this decision will backslashes Capcom or it will be a success. On my personal take I can't play much videogames at home on my current situation of working and studying so handheld/mobile gaming are my only options to play a MH game. Really a shame that Capcom will forget about handheld users on the west even if it did good on 3DS.

I'm just surprised Monster Hunter has came home.
Lucky PS4 can remoteplay for fans on the go.

I really cannot understand why they wont at least localize XX. I'm fine with MHW being the next game in the main series but it better be damn good and exceed 4th Gen. Also i feel like too many people are hung up on visuals and i'm just sitting here praying to god they don't fuck up the combat, questing, etc. by trying to make it appeal to the West. Don't fuck up my favorite franchise from you Capcom. Please.

I agree with you completely. This is an important issue and should be discussed. Even so, this thread is filled to the brim with overreactions that are characteristics of E3 threads.

I guess in the process of chasing the new Western Audience they no longer care about maintaining their core audience. I guess it's risky when they could do both and minimize any risk.

NOE confirmed to save everyone again by localizing it themselves ala Xenoblade? A man can dream

I'm pretty sure that all of the localizations for Monster Hunter on the 3DS were still on Capcom's dime. They just have a pitifully small publishing department in Europe and really can't take on that many titles at a time, so Nintendo helped them out on that series and the earlier Phoenix Wright games.

There is a difference, this time it is a big gamble..
The gamble is big regardless but when you consider PS4>Wii U +3DS and more than likely PS4>Switch in terms of sales then you can kinda see the justification. Add to the fact that putting this on PS4/XB1 means they dont have to make 2 versions of the game and it becomes easy to see why Capcom went this route.

I think Capcom is a shell of their former selves but I'm not going to get pissed over this.

For me it's ok, I was going to buy MH World instead of XX anyways because it seems to be the newer, more modern version, properly updated for our tastes.

But it would be nice to see XX localized too in order to play it somewhere in the future. And for western players who have a Switch and not PS4/XBO/PC. The more people play MH, the better.

In any case, I understand that for many years Nintendo has been paying to keep MH outside Vita and PS3 and now it's their turn to don't get MH.
LOL delusions
