Capcom focused on Monster Hunter: World for West, won't commit to MH:XX localization

If they're betting the farm on World, then I don't know if there is going to be a Capcom to localize it if World does flop. This decision seems like it's pointing at World being a major make or break moment for them, and if it does fail, I don't know how their shareholders don't revolt after years of underperformance on every franchise but Monster Hunter.

I don't think they have a farm to bet at this point. Too many short-sighted decisions like Lost Planet 3 and SFxT and RE6 being 4 games in 1.

I can kind of understand why Capcom would not want to split their sales between two different games.
Especially when this is their big push for MH in the west.

I think they have a lot riding on this.

That actually doesn't change my point at all

oh i see, thats why you posted numbers of 3ds and vita and make a snarky remark...riiiiiiiiiight

, which is true if you're trying to say Capcom wasn't aware of Vita.

Are you now an insider too? Or is this just a tale you spun up?

Anyway I'm going to block you, your response to everything is "you're a troll", and personally I'm not fond of bashing my head against brick walls.

and nothing of value was lost this day

So happy to see all these reasonable and well thought out responses here. Glad to know that World is confirmed garbage from the many people in this thread who have played it. Thanks NeoGAF!

I haven't been following MvC. What's wrong with that game?

It got upstaged by Dragon Ball.

BALL

It simply looks terrible every way you look at it. Character designs, stages, UI. A lot of the characters are straight-up ripped out of MVC3 and are made to look worse.

I'm confused.. can someone explain the issue here?

Capcom made a new Monster Hunter that plays very differently from the other Monster Hunter games to attract Western mass audiences, but are not localizing the traditional Monster Hunter game; leaving fans in the West only with a game made for a different audience than them.

What I will tell you, though... is I haven't bought anything from you guys since Resident Evil VII. And I have no clue when I'll buy anything from you again.

This, so much this. I bought USF2 because I just adore that game (SF2). But this company has become so shallow. And now my portable MH is gone. I've been here since the 1st Freedom title on PSP. Fuck you Capcom. You don't even remember that going portable turned your game into a phenomenon.

It would still be two similar games from the same series made available around the same time. People interested in Monster Hunter will be more likely to give World a chance if its the only option.

The opposite is also true, isn't it? If they skip an installment now that clearly has demand for it, I don't know how they won't shed a chunk of the fan base that now has cold feet on the commitment Capcom has for the series. It's not even a new problem for Capcom, as Ace Attorney has never really recovered properly after they skipped AAI2.

Just solidifies my choice of not caring for MHW until I can get it in the bargain bin. Its good that Capcom is trying to make it more popular but I don't want it to be on not localizing mhxx.

Wtf are they doing? There's a growing, established player base for portable MH in NA. The Switch is the perfect solution for both portable play and console TV play. Instead, Capcom has decided to go all-in on a non-portable westernized version.

Aren't past and present owners of MH titles on the 3ds/2ds the main reason MH is even a thing in NA? I'm trying to understand why they would completely bail on that customer base.

Capcom better be really confident MoHun World will be a smash in the west. Considering the sales of the series on handhelds, and considering Nintendo is the only manufacturer with a portable system in the market, it seems to me Capcom needs Nintendo more than Nintendo needs MoHun. I don't know why they are working so hard to alienate and annoy people that like the series in the west, specially after all the work Nintendo put into bringing MoHun over.

But than again, it is Capcom, and you can't expect them to make reasonable decisions.

Not that I disagree; but we should probably reserve judgement on World until it comes out. It could actually be great and an evolution of the franchise.

Just don't pre-order (not that anyone should ever pre-order anyway)
I would love for it to turn out to be great. But I can't see this as anything but a betrayal of their fanbase of handheld players. Especially in Japan where the home console market is dying and PS4 sales are shockingly average.

The fact that they state it's aimed at western markets is going to bother the core players. This usually means a less skill based cinematic gameplay style. Some of the stuff looked good like the scent system and the environmental traps.

Why would you not want a completed game that is half localized to finish localization for the people who want it? What literal purpose could you have for that besides being spiteful?

I'm not saying that. I'm saying I'm excited for the game they're putting their efforts into. I didn't go into the thread and say "Good, fuck MHXX." Don't try to make it out like I'm happy they're not giving people the game they want.

Fucking Capcom.
Great news. Can't wait for World!

They also risk poisoning the word of mouth well. Back when P3rd was passed up people were pissed. It had enough time to blow over due to how ridiculously long it took for them to even announce 3G for the west but that's not the case here. You'd think Capcom would want people as happy as possible so that they'll tell their friends about this awesome series called Monster Hunter and how it's now on every console.

Yup, really dropping the ball recently. MVCI does look terrible, but I thought I was the only one who thought so.

Disappointed with this news to say the least.

If there's no localization of XX in the West and I don't have a portable MH, then I'll just skip MH. I have enough online games that tether me to my PC and consoles. MH was my portable game I could play around the house and outside.

To be fair, that Dragon Ball is looking like a lightning in a bottle kind of affair.

Marvel does look like ass though

For me it's ok, I was going to buy MH World instead of XX anyways because it seems to be the newer, more modern version, properly updated for our tastes.

But it would be nice to see XX localized too in order to play it somewhere in the future. And for western players who have a Switch and not PS4/XBO/PC. The more people play MH, the better.

In any case, I understand that for many years Nintendo has been paying to keep MH outside Vita and PS3 and now it's their turn to don't get MH.

Nintendo hasn't actually been paying for any exclusivity with MH though. Capcom moved willingly.

Oh get out of here with that. The worst freaking logic in gaming. It's not about companies winning/losing, and nobody should ever be happy that a (mostly localized!) game has the possibility of not getting a localization. Even if "your team" is the one benefitting from such a lack. Nobody deserves a "turn" at missing out on great games.

World looks really cool. I can't wait for it. XX looks really fun. I wish I could say "I can't wait for it" as well, right now. But things are too up in the air knowing Capcom.

Will this game sale more than Tri Wii? Not even a well known game like Street Fighter have yet to reach 2 million after a year.

I believe The current high for western mh is 4U with 1.5msales.

Butstill, thats is probably best discussed in the MHW threads.

This is a let's yell at capcom for being dumbases and not translating Dos/P3rd/4/XX/AA:I2/TGAA thread.

According to the rumor (that was spot on except for this part), this was intended to be called MH5. They probably changed it at the last minute.
This probably being close to the truth makes me think/hope that an 5 might be a portable, traditional style game on Switch or crossplatform.

Capcom is banking on World getting the mass audience that may be interested in MH but are turned off by the series' combat system and controls. There's a lot out there.

That said, localizing XX does no damage whatsoever to that plan, so it still has Capcom in the wrong regarding that.

But why skip bringing worlds to Switch?
They build a pretty big west following on Nintendo hardware it's pretty crazy to skip that. I guess it will still come but months later.

And yes i can play it on my PS4 but i won't double dip if i already played that.

Who knows though? Maybe Nintendo is like "oh you did a deal for the main MH in the west on everything but our new system? Well we wish you the best for the localisation of xx on Switch in the West."

Stories is probably related to an older deal...?

This is probably exactly what happened I'd imagine. New MH skipping Nintendo after Nintendo keeping the series afloat with marketing and that.

Pretty snide on Capcom's behalf if so.

you acting like its the first ps4/one/pc games that is not showing up on switch

its more the norm then the exceptation

It's like Capcom is willfully stupid. Your not going to get MH in the West to be what it is in Japan, so stop trying so hard to alienate your Western fanbase and just release the actual fuckin game here. Go ahead and release your cinematic stealth detective vision made for Western audiences shit for whoever you think wants it, but don't make MH fans pay for it.

Yeah, Capcom can fuck right off then.

Way the give Western Switch MH fans the finger.

No World for Switch.
No MH5 announced for Switch.
No XX localization planned for West, as far as we can tell. Instead they are focusing on World.

I'm preeeetty damn sure MH XX is getting localized. Some conversations Ive heard from industry people wouldn't make sense otherwise.

Ya, I know, not really through information, but I'm confident in this.
