Capcom focused on Monster Hunter: World for West, won't commit to MH:XX localization

To be fair, that Dragon Ball is looking like a lightning in a bottle kind of affair.

Marvel does look like ass though

It might be lightning in a bottle, but even without it, MVC:I wasn't going to hit its' goals.

Capcom better be really confident MoHun World will be a smash in the west. Considering the sales of the series on handhelds, and considering Nintendo is the only manufacturer with a portable system in the market, it seems to me Capcom needs Nintendo more than Nintendo needs MoHun. I don't know why they are working so hard to alienate and annoy people that like the series in the west, specially after all the work Nintendo put into bringing MoHun over.

But than again, it is Capcom, and you can't expect them to make reasonable decisions.

The rumor that got it right suggested that they are anything but confident in World, which is why they're apparently going to put the Portable series on Switch in Japan only. Which will only make this situation worse if it turns out to be true.

They're trying to draw in first timers to the series. Nobody wants to join a franchise on its 5th entry, especially if they didn't enjoy 3 or 4.

This is a fresh start for everyone.

This makes no sense. If they didn't enjoy 3 and 4, they wouldn't get this anyway, unless the game has deviated enough from the normal to get them interested.
If the game has deviated enough to get them interested in the series, that will probably turn off existing fans.

Because a lot of PS and MS fans who haven't had MH on their consoles would wonder where MH 1-4 were.

Monster Hunter Frontier was literally on the PS3 and 360. If Capcom is trying to grow that group then not going with MH5 makes sense, but again, if they're trying to grow the existing fanbase, then the name makes little sense

It's like Capcom is willfully stupid. Your not going to get MH in the West to be what it is in Japan, so stop trying so hard to alienate your Western fanbase and just release the actual fuckin game here. Go ahead and release your cinematic stealth detective vision made for Western audiences shit for whoever you think wants it, but don't make MH fans pay for it.

I want both.

If World is made by the prime Japan team and has all the shit they say it has, then I def want it.

We can have more than one God damn thing. Don't just be the opposite of Capcom with that toxic stance.

Capcom, just localize your fucking video games

It got upstaged by Dragon Ball.

DRAGON

BALL

It simply looks terrible every way you look at it. Character designs, stages, UI. A lot of the characters are straight-up ripped out of MVC3 and are made to look worse.

Yeah, its dragon ball, but look at the dev, it could be a fucking care bears fighter and it would be a fucking amazing game, lol.

Honestly if the subtitle was anything other than "World" I'd think it was a soft reboot. World sounds super spinoff-y; not sure why they went with it if this is mainline.

According to the rumor (that was spot on except for this part), this was intended to be called MH5. They probably changed it at the last minute.
we'll see how it turns out I guess but numbered series have literally never stopped Capcom before. SFV was being marketed as the beginner friendly/casual's first fighter yet it wasn't subtitled. It was just SFV. MH does numbers in the title to indicate it being a new generation so its a little odd to me. Some of the liberties they're taking with this game have series fans (myself included) a little worried so I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally MH5 but renamed to MH: World simply because of the changes they've made were too different from traditional monster hunter.

Pretty brutal for the long time fans. I'm interested in the PS4 game, but I have no real investment in the franchise. I just see pretty giant monsters.

Actual question, is there some unified Twitter tag going for this? If not, we should get one started. No knocking MH World alongside, just saying that we do want XX localized as well.

I will buy both
Many will buy both

I'm preeeetty damn sure MH XX is getting localized. Some conversations Ive heard from industry people wouldn't make sense otherwise.

Ya, I know, not really through information, but I'm confident in this.

Sounds like you and MatrixMan are gonna fight over who has the most credible source...

I've seen MHXXForTheWest I think, which was used previously.

Considering Stories is an upcoming release I'm guessing they do plan on continuing western MH releases on Nintendo platforms, but not while promoting World which is clearly supposed to appeal more to a Western audience. Whether XX specifically will get localized probably depends on whether there will be a newer MH out on Switch by that time.

Somehow I thought Monster Hunter XX was already locked in for us. I'm not gonna wanna play it next year so I guess I'll just let it go.

Sure. But it's an out of left field game that had the ability to steal all of MVC:I's thunder and did when you look at how bad MVC:I is shaping up. MVC:I looking the way it does a damning indictment of Capcom at the moment because given the property it shouldn't look nearly as bad. You have to think that the kind of work you see there is systematic with Capcom as a whole right now.

Yeah, we don't need posts like these, we need receipts.

Even if this is the case, they should do better in letting the fans know.

All the public statements I've seen in this thread point to "nothing to announce" at best and "we are focusing on other stuff" at worse.

Which again, doesn't make any sense.

Unless the moneyhatting is true and now Capcom can't do anything about it. But would the moneyhat prevent them from localizing XX? If XX was released simultaneously world wide, it would be months before World.

Sounds like you and MatrixMan are gonna fight over who has the most credible source...

I don't think we do. People aren't obligated to believe me but everything I've been alluding to over the past several months has turned out to be true so I'm inclined to believe what I've heard.

No one has to listen to me though lol the word is not final until it comes from Capcom anyway.

Monster Hunter not on portables doesn't matter in the slightest for me, so I guess I'm done with this franchise too.

I'm the opposite. I do all my gaming at home. I absolutely abhor being tethered to a tiny screen and cramped controls to play my favorite series of all time. So in that respect, World is an absolute godsend for me.

Which again, doesn't make any sense.

This doesn't make any sense since World is multi plat PS4/XB1/PC, whos paying?

Many are. For less rabid fans with less time on their hands such as myself, though, one MH title in a year would probably be enough. I would have gone with XX. Now I will give World a shot instead, assuming it turns out well.

So if they both come out they sell two games to me and one to you. That's better than only selling us one game each.

Yeah, I know, sorry.

Ive been in the industry for over ten years though, Im not a random driveby and I dont want a friend to get in trouble. I have no idea when the game will be released or anything, but I would be extremely surprised if its not being localized right now.

But that's the beauty of MHXX on Switch: you can do both of those things and not have to compromise. Hell, you can straight up play with 3DS players online for even more options.

I see some people celebrating XX not coming to the west but MH World is.

How much of a pathetic loser do you have to be to do this.

Who said XX had to release WW at the same time? There's always been a delay with MH games coming to the west on 3DS. If you look at things, it should release in March of next year on 3DS/Switch, a year after it hit 3DS in Japan. But I guess you already see the problem there in relation to World

Is this really your response? There are 0 other Witcher games. There are no spinoffs. There was absolutely no confusion about Wild Hunt being Witcher 3. Come on now. And the box has a fucking 3 on it

Yes?

They literally changed the name to wild hunt and stopped saying 3 as much as possible.
Most people that played witcher 3 didn't play the other two. By a lot. Like a lot a lot. And it worked for them.
It makes sense really. Other franchises have done it such as Infamous Second Son, Killzone Shadowfall, and Assassin's Creed dropping numbers. It can hurt sales.

Yes but I don't own a Switch and can't afford one. From a purely selfish perspective, MHW is what I want. I'm not begrudging anyone who wants XX localized though. I want that too, just so everyone can be happy.

Also Generations was the most disappointed I've been in a MH game since P3rd, so my excitement for XX was already pretty low. I may have some misgivings about World at the moment, but at least it's a new thing and not an expanded version of something I was already disappointed in.

This doesn't make any sense since World is multi plat PS4/XB1/PC, whos paying?

Typically you can tell who's paying, when only one company is talking about a thing, and the makers of the thing are only referring to a single version or offering "no comment" to other platform versions.

Remember Microsoft's "Destiny perfume"

Honestly it could be perfectly plausible for it to be localized in Europe and miss America or vice versa; both sources could be true for different territories.

People to this day are asking if it's necessary to play the previous games... even here on GAF. And it's a game with much better brand recognition and foothold in the west.

I can't think of ANY game with a number in the title (outside of maybe fighting games) where I've never seen at least ONE post on here or reddit where someone asks if they have to play previous games in the series to understand gameplay or the story. If this is really is MH5 and they want to push it in the west (like REALLY push it) it makes sense to have a subtitle instead of a number. Especially for a series that didn't exactly set the charts on fire in the west.

There was a whole thread about it: www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1381389

It didn't HAVE to release at the same time, but it could be done if Capcom wanted to. But yes. I do get it.

Yeah, this console war shit is extremly annoying. Can't understand how you can ever celebrate less games getting released.
