Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy |OT| N.Teresting and N.Tertaining N.Fographics With-N

This game has that amazing 'got gud' thing going on. After finishing some later levels and collecting coloured gems, I went back to Native Fortress. Couldn't believe how much easier it felt compared to a couple of days ago. There's definitely a lot of subtle skill-honing going on.

Damn I still cNt beat native fortress.. the part with the three torch always gets me. Im seconds away from throwing my controller to my tv. Lord help me

Completed the base game of warped, 50% down on the whole.

I think I prefer Warped to 2.
The level themes are pretty nice, when the game isn't throwing the gimmicks at you the levels feel a touch more involved with hazards and verticality than 2. It's small things like how the chase stages here tend to be tied in more with normal stage design. While the abilities you earn slowly make Crash kinda overpowered (sliding double jumps into spin and a long range bazooka? yeah, it's a bit too potent) I do like that they tried to add some extra quirks and the increased spin is always handy for having your attacks feel less dicey.

In general Warped just felt better to play, enemy hitboxes were more reliable, smoother analogue movement, jumps were either toned down throughout or Crash has a bit more airtime even by default jump?
Negatives of course include the gimmick stages, I get they were probably running out of steam in the standard style so we got alternatives, the jetski and dogfights are inoffensive though the latter of these couldn't feel more filler if it tried.
The bike stuff is bit more dubious due to a lack of restart (can't even game over yourself) which makes missing a single box or just having a crash (ho ho!) that much more grating, doesn't feel too great to control either.

Easiest of the three without a doubt, much like Crash 2 the endgame stages felt so oddly pedestrian it was hard to believe that it was the final world as well as from the gents that broke us all so thoroughly with Crash 1.
We'll see how my thoughts on the three change when going back for the fuller completion but right now I'm going to look like a madman and declare...
Crash 1 is the best, it's also technically the worst on design merits yet the fact that it's less forgiving led to a lot more involved level design across the board, less gimmicks and more arse clenching platforming, I just gotta go with the first.

I had the most fun with Crash 1 in this collection. Sense of progression and escalation runs circles around the other two, and it's balls hard (though mostly in a fair way). It's absurdly straightforward, but the levels are super condensed and just filled to the brim with constant shit to avoid (Road to Nowhere is a delicious "run 'n jump" platforming level). VV did gud this with this one.

80+ Metacritic average, combined with what seems to be good sales out of the gate -- can't imagine Sony and Activision won't move forward with more after this.

I'm guessing original Crash Bandicoot player completion had 3/4 of its players stop at Road to Nowhere.
I picked away at beating Crash 1 for months when I was a kid. I didn't have a million other games to play (or things I needed to actually do in real life) like I do now. It just took a while :) I distinctly remember beating Crash 2 without a memory card. My friend lent me the game, I didn't have a memory card, and I kept my PS1 on all weekend. At one point my dog took a dump on the ground right next to my PS1. I don't remember how this factored into the story. Memories are weird

They've really nailed the feel of Crash 3. Crash in this game feels perfect. Pura is more enjoyable to ride and the jet ski levels are actually bearable now.

Just got the Platinum relic on Makin' Waves by 0.04 seconds. Christ.

They definitely control better but I still don't like the Jet ski levels. But to me the worst thing in the whole trilogy is the motorcycle levels. The controls are better but it still feels like I'm playing a different game and just wanted to get back to the platforming.

Th one with three torches in a row? there is a platform right above the second torch.

The issue really is where do they move exactly? Obviously CTR is a lock. We all know that's going to happen. But where do they go in terms of new games? I'm honestly of the opinion that they should make at least one new entry in the same style as the original trilogy. A game with narrow pathways mixed with sidescrolling sections. Afterwards then they can consider taking a more Mario approach as far as doing different things with him. I actually wouldn't be against them sticking with the classic style completely, but i'm not sure if that's financially viable.

Is Sony really that involved in this? I think the one moving forward is Activision

The possibility of ports to PC and other consoles still exists, so maybe they'll want to test the waters on other platforms before going all in with Crash as a franchise??

CTR however, yeah that one's happening m'dudes.

No, I agree with you on the motorcycle. It is still horrific to control. I was mostly referring to how Crash felt a lot more heavier in the first two games, but feels solid in this one.

A new traditional Crash game would be great (*Cough* After a Spyro trilogy *Cough*). If they do go that route I hope they don't just ignore the games that came after Warped. It would suck to get a brand new Crash game without Nina in it.

3 days, 5 game overs and god knows how many lives lost and I still can't get past that last bit of Native Fortress...

Jump on first one. Before it goes out then just hold left. You'll make it with loads of time

Crash 2 really does throw lives and fruit at you compared to the first one. On the 8th level and I have 32 lives (the polar bear helped to be fair).

Remember that every time you replay a level after a game over, all the lives on the level are turned into ? boxes. It's better to exit the game and reload the savegame and then start the level to have the extra lives appear again so you can beat that final part of that level.

When you reach the second torch, jump to the background. There is a free spot!

Fuck off

Alternatively, you can get through that part by jumping towards the first one just before the flame goes out. If you don't do a high bounce and just let the normal ones carry you forward you can get through it

The feeling when the lousy Nitro detection at the very end stops you from getting the yellow gem in Crash 2 -_-

The piranha plants are positioned just right in this level that you MUST shed a Aku Aku mask to not die, just why?

EDIT: Wow I by the skin of my teeth was able to narrowly escape a piranha plant from eating one of the two masks you get, I then tanked the final 4 nitros via the spare Aku Aku mask with seconds left to get that damn gem. Woohoo!

EDIT 2: Sapphired that bad boy stage, all done with Plant Food. No more of that!

I'm finding the complete opposite. I had 70+ lives by the 3rd island of Crash 1. I'm at the 4th warp room in Crash 2 and have barely been over 10 lives.

Crash 1 absolutely comes into it's own when you're playing levels for gems.

Levels that felt like a laborious, overly punishing chore now make sense when you're playing them for a purpose beyond just progression to the end of the game.

Some of them have taken me up to an hour to beat, and I've yet to touch Road to Nowhere or High Road again, but I've already got more gems than I expected and it's been a blast.

Also, getting to 99 lives is an incredibly easy Gold trophy when you're playing the game for gems. The Lost City especially got me about 60-70 lives from trying to get the gem.

Crash 2 is already feeling way better to me than Crash 1. Secret passages, sliding, challenges like destroying no boxes.

Now if anyone could be so kind to tell me how to get all boxes in the secret passage of the first level, that would be nice :)

Slide jumps. They make you jump higher and you can get even more height if you spin while ascending.

Just did the time trial. Sup

I can't even do the time trial for N.Sane Beach. I'm fine accepting my position as scrub.

Good idea, it's the dying to bullshit (like your spin being a split second off to not be eaten by the piranha plants) then being sent right back to the start that stops me from finishing. I'll see if I can grind for some lives and just brute force my way through.

Have to get the slide jump trick down. Have to slide jump onto the Ostrich neck, then quickly slide jump to the 2 boxes up above and then rinse/repeat for the 2nd Ostrich.

Gaf lit the light bulb for me yesterday, easy once you have the trick down to pat.

So i just found out that you have to get at least gold on the time trials in Crash 1 to get the Platinum Trophie..

.Well no Platinum for me then!

He just gave a legitimate tip and you tell him to fuck off?

Doing the slide+jump+spin combo (O>X>[]) will make you jump higher than usual, take advantage of that to reach high platforms

I got to the last boss on Crash 1, no struggle here, a lot easier than I remember it being really. I want to go back and get all the gems etc. before I finish it though, time trials are gonna be a pain in the ass I'm sure.

I think that was more of a "Get outta here! You're kidding me." type.

Sometimes, I feel like the only person that didn't suffer in native fortress.

Even if you didn't, I'd imagine one could sympathize with potential danger areas in the level! Also, you should never feel like the only person that didn't suffer in a particular level. It's natural that not everyone will have slip-ups where many other vocals did.

People struggling to beat levels should take a break. I spent 30-45 minutes yesterday on The High Road, came back today and one shot it. Having calm nerves helps a lot.
