I was gonna mention alpha 2.TBH...
There hasn't been a good mainline SF game since SF2.

How is Alpha2 not mainline?
This is what I though too, hence I why didn't consider Alpha to be "mainline"I didn't consider Alpha series to be mainline but I guess they are fine.
When I said mainline I meant SF1, SF2, SF3, SF4 and SFV specifically.
Lion neckbeard plsI hate SFV, but Akuma's lion beard is dope. You guys are lame.

Alpha 2 was extremely good. Though I never cared much for Custom Combos and it made pro level play look dumb lol. V-ISM in A3 was ridiculous as well.
Alpha 2 might have the best backgrounds in SF history. I love that Rolento stage.
The stages were hit or miss, like most of the SF titles.
I never get the love for SFA3. SFA2 was clearly the peak of the trilogy in terms of gameplay, A3 just added really, really dumb shit like heavy-impact normals, air recoveries, an entire ISM dedicated to fighting game sin (custom combos), an incredibly overenthusiastic announcer, downgraded art style from the previous two, etc. But hey, it had a big roster and a lot of variety. Wait...that's why people like SF4, too... now I get it!

Nah, the DIMPS made SFIV belongs in the sin bin along side EX and the movie game. Ugly, clunky and soulless. SFV needs work, tho the core experience is a massive step up over IV.This is the Street Fighter cycle, everyone thinks the previous game was the best. People shit on 4 for the longest time and said 3 was more hype and skillful, and before that was SF2 > SF3
I mean Capcom does.

Tbh I dont know where is Alpha isn't mainline thing started. People keep comparing it to EX series like its a spinoff. But it most definitely wasn't. It was also called SF Zero in Japan , idk why they even changed the name for Western release.
LOL but SFV naturally high input delay is okAlso, the netcode, which delayed inputs to compensate for latency, made it impossible to react to anything.
What? Q was bottom tier in 3Suniversal parry makes shit tier slow characters like Q to be able to win matches, try to get rewarded by patience and blocking in SFV against good players and you get nothing but an russian roulette into high damage for one mistake.
plz don't disparage Simba like thatAkuma in SFV.

I really liked SFIV and I still think USF4 is better than SFV currently. But I can see myself liking SFV more if they just fix some issues , it definitely has the potential to be a lot better than SFIV could ever be.
Imo a lot of people are just getting really annoyed by the stronger character in the game and only pin pointing the negatives like 50/50s ,jump ins ..etc. Just like how people constantly bashed FADC and Ultras in SFIV. But just like every other strong technique there are ways to avoid it, SFV is different just like how IV and III were.
SFV S1 was a good start , probably much better than SFIVs start. But S2 is no Super , it took a downward turn if anything. Hopefully S3 can put it back on track.

SFV feels like it rewards fundamentals more than SFIV did even if the skill ceiling is actually lower.
4 probably has the worst mechanics and look out of any SF, barring the first one. I thought my opinion might change since it's first release, but it hasn't. I would rather play any other SF than SF4.
I don't fault you for your opinion though.
This. Also it was the weirdest feeling SF due to a lot of design decisions.
I remember when SF4 got a lot of criticism when it first came out, like complains about FADC etc. Now people are asking for those to be brought back.
The FGC is pretty flip-floppy when it comes to what they want even by gaming community standards as a whole.

I've gotta disagree with you OP. SFV is tied with SF3 as the best SF game ever made imho.
I've said this about SFV hundreds of times: the game has some great ideas, it's just the execution of these ideas is garbage.
