Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I know the SF-edition Razer is out in "July," any idea when it'll go up, exactly?

I kind of want to get an arcade stick just to see how different the fighting game experience is, but I don't to have to buy two just for Xbox One and PS4. Is there any sticks out there that works for both consoles?

Mayflash F500 Fight Stick. It works for either console, but you have to physically connect a real PS4/XB1 controller to it to act as an authorization dongle. I own one because it'll work on almost every current/prior-gen console, at $90 it's a decent budget fight stick.

Did Sanwa do their wooden ball and bat tops this year for EVO? I eyeballed some on focus attack...last year I think but held off and I don't recall seeing anything about them this year.

i'm looking for an alternative to plexi since i don't really like the feel of it

any recommendations?

I've never seen anyone use 1/2mm glass clear pvc sheeting. I'm thinking laser cutting one to fit. Of course would only really work for recessed edges so it will be flush otherwise it will catch and bend even with default screws holding it down like plexi.

Easy to replace too I suspect.

Was anyone able to get their hands on the new FE at EVO?

Me. The metal plate is slick af. Might have been my imagination, but it felt a bit more solid than the original. Buttons were hayabusa.

It didn't have everything (no touchpad/share button), so it wasn't final. They did say it would have the ability to remap buttons even without the touch panel.

They said it'd come out in Q4.

Were the Hayabusa buttons glossy or still matte?

The original had an acrylic over plastic surface rather than metal, so that would definitely contribute to it feeling more solid. From the photos I had assumed the metal-like looks were a veneer.

I knew you'd cone through for me! :)

Man Q4? That seems so far away.... I am hoping for a November release. Will give me enough time to convince the wife that I need another stick.

That's what I assumed. Feels great, though.

They said they're trying to keep it at 200 as well. Between that and the super thin monitor, hori about to get all of my moneys.

That was never a brook thing. That was the Cronus max.

Tons of people use brook adapters. You'd hear about problems if there were any. :)

Saw a lot of them at evo.
That's a relief. I have two so I would have been pissed if that was an issue. The Cronus max seemed cool, but I didn't want to have to hassle with getting it to work (it seemed complicated configuring it) out of the box.

So EVO inspired me to revisit this project:

It was originally supposed to themed for Street Fighter, but I didn't get into V as much as I expected. That said it's too nice a case (in my eyes) to leave it empty and unused. Anyone have some suggestions for art or maybe some resources for inspiration? I kind of scrapped any of my SFV specific ideas for it.

I kind of like the wood and maybe some kind of glossy black or white surface. Make that one clean.

I'm thinking something classy with that wood. Maybe wood and gold or brass.

I have a $5 off coupon for FocusAttack.com I will not be needing. PM me if you'd like it :)

(I will update this post as soon as someone claims it)

Picked one of these up just for kicks and I'm blown away by the quality for $60. It feels way more solid than I would have expected, including the plastic top panel itself which I thought would be flimsy. Although the buttons are a bit clunky, the joystick surprisingly feels pretty great (almost JLF quality). I know how crazy that sounds. I'm kind of shocked myself.

I also noticed Amazon is shipping the new revision of this which puts the USB port for controllers on the back, which makes much more sense.

Edit: you can now buy $30 dongles on Amazon for this which can be used instead of needing a controller.

What are the dongles for? Can you not just connect this stick directly to a console? Is it for if you want to use wireless or something?

I think you need the dongle for the system to recognize the stick without plug in in an official controller

Are there any good sticks that don't require dongles?

Does this means I'd need to get 4 dongles to use with PS3/4 and Xbox 1/360 without plugging in a controller? And I'd need to change them (and be careful not to lose them) if I changed consoles?

This arcade stick uses official controllers as a pass through. If you want to play on PS4 for instance, you connect your PS4 controller to the arcade stick to use it on a PS4 console. If that seems like a pain, you can just buy a dongle instead with no controller required.

It looks like you have to buy individual dongles? Is there not a one-dongle-to-rule-them-all?

Are there any sticks that don't require a bunch of dongles?

This is a cheap stick with an inconvenient way of being compatible with many systems. That's how they keep the price down. There are plenty of other options.

What stick would you recommend that does support XBox One, 360, PS3 and PS4 without all the dongle nonsense?

Huh. That's a bit surprising. What would be involved with installing that into something like an eTokki?
The eTokki should already have the pS3/PS4 PCB board already installed.

If you want to put in the UFB in, you'd have to unscrew the bottom screws, unplug the current PCB and install the UFB. If you are doing this, make sure to get the non solder version or else you need to solder it and that will require extra steps and equipment that you need to pick up.

I'm not aware of there even being any version of the UFB that does not use screw terminals.

Biggest caveat of Brook stuff is that you have to keep up to date with firmware updates for it since they're in an endless cat and mouse game with Sony where their controller authentication gets broken every few months.

To add to what others are saying, you're not going to find a commercial stick that works on PS3/4 and Xbox 360/1 all off the same board. There's a popular aftermarket board people put in sticks called the Brook Universal Fight Board. It's a great board. You'll have to install it into whatever stick you have, then keep it up to date on the firmware every now and then (usually months between updates).

Some shops that make custom sticks will have the option to preinstall the Brook UFB for you, but that's going to end up being costly since you're getting a fully custom stick at that point. If you want all those consoles supported though, it'll be stick cost + the UFB($90 retail), time and any tools you need for installation. If you're not comfortable with that, you're best paying for somebody to install it for you, or just living without those consoles on one stick. If you are comfortable and willing to pay for it though, that's all you gotta do. Depending on what stick you wanna get there are mod kits out there to help you if you aren't experienced with installing PCBs.

Edit: I believe an added bonus of the Brook board is that it also works on Wii U and Switch now too after some updating. There's a reason it's in everything custom these days.

Anyone know what's up with hitboxarcade? They still say on their website that they are out of stock and pre-orders made today will ship in july. That page has been like that for months now and even now 7 days before the end of july. Is that really the case? I ordered mine last Thursday.

Like everyone else said, Brooks is really your only option. IIRC from reading a Madcatz postmortem article, Sony & Microsoft required 3rd party controllers to be exclusive to their system. That's why the only way to get cross-platform sticks is to go with a custom option like Brooks or the dongle work-around.

Heads up to anyone with a Gamestop Pro membership: I noticed when I checked my account there's a member coupon for $20 off Razer sticks.

Does the Pantera have direct x support for PC compatibility? I'm going to need a new stick soon and I want something with stock sanwa parts.

I have the Rivals TE2, I was wondering if I should get the red bezel or get another bezel and paint it?

Either Red or Violet would be pretty cool for the bezel.

I'll be needing a stick for killer instinct when it finally hits steam. I've only got ps3/4 sticks and none of those work on the windows store version.

From the looks of it I need a native xinput stick. I was thinking the new razer artox or the hori tekken 7 stick if I can find it.

I like hori parts and sanwa parts about the same tbh so I might just get whatever is available but I am open to suggestions.
