How does the game play with the joycon grip? I want to get it but I don't have the money for a Pro Controller...

Been wrecking dudes with my grip. Not quite as comfortable as the Wii U gamepad(and I'm sure the pro controller has a comfort edge), but it is actually pretty good... surprisingly so!

The game is amazing, but the matchmaking is really pissing me off. I've just had an 8-loss streak in which I ended up averaging 1000+ points in each game (#1 in my team in every single game)

It's amusing that all the new blood have no idea what they are doing. My teammates are playing this like COD. I can get the top score by just inking.

I forgot about this from early days of Splatoon 1. But the Switch brought a ton of new players, so all in good time.

And thank goodness. I still can't aim for shit, yet I keep managing to finish first on my team, win or lose, with like 2 splats:)

What does everyone think of the new leveling system? It seems pretty slow compared to Splatoon 1. Instead of your score affecting your XP, you get a set amount based on whether or not you won, if you got over 500 points (easy), and if you didn't DC. I suppose this is in order to encourage people to use different weapons since some weapons weren't suited for inking and thus they would on average get a lower score than say an Aerospray user. There is also a XP bonus for using different weapons, so it really seems like they want people to play with their loadouts instead of sticking with one weapon. The tempura that boosts XP/gold gives those who think it's too slow a chance to level up faster, but getting those tickets is luck of the draw.

I've played 50 matches, won thirty of them, and I'm not even level 10 yet. The grind to get the rest of the weapons is going to be an endeavor...

doing so much better after taking the time to get the hang of motion control. really wish they didn't lock the y axis on the right stick though

Can somebody tell me what the most useful gear abilities are? The shoes i really want have two ink swimming speed buffs now. I did well with some special charge and reload time buffs as well but I'm really not sure with most of them.
Hit ZL and it should flip the card and shoe youbwhat the abilities are in detail.

Personally, I like the ink efficiency ones thatbrefill faster and use less ink.

Swim speed up is nice if youbswim a lot, helps you get away from people, or circle around them and splat them.

Spawn speed up is good if you like to rush into battle.

Just kind of have to think of what your weak points are and tailor (get it) your powerups to those. Will probably be different for everyone, and will depend on what weapon type you main.

Not sure if this has been posted already:

Prima Quick Tips for Splatoon 2 said:
You can hide from enemies by activating your squid mode while in your own color ink, allowing you to sneak up on others.
The quickest way to get around the level is to paint a path using your ink and then use your squid mode to move through it.
You can press B while in squid mode to jump and move more quickly up vertical inclines.
You can change out your default look by checking the options.
Be sure to visit the shop in-between matches to pick up new weapons and other gear.
The single player campaign can be visited at any time, and you don’t actually have to complete it to play the game’s multiplayer aspects.
You can play Splatoon 2 on the go, so long as you have an internet connection available.

Some hot tips from Prima for anyone struggling with Splatoon. Came across these when I was looking into weapon ratings.

I've never played Splatoon 1, but after the Test fire and splat fest demo for Spla2n, I was really into it.

My first few games with the joycons and motion controls, I went like 2-5, switched it to the pro controller with no Motion control and higher sensitivity, I went 10-2.

Loving this, and Salmon Run is super addicting

I thought it was just me (sometimes hover around 1st/2nd on losing teams) but it seems like the matchmaking is stupid, and the exp being so minimal on losing teams. Doesn't help that Turf War is basically Grinding: The Game in order to get to the more advanced online matches.

I can confirm that you unlock a specific hero weapon for multiplayer once you complete every story level with it.

Unfortunately, you also have to be the proper level to buy it. The further along in the story you get, the higher level you need to be So in my case, I need to get to level 20 (the second last weapon you unlock). The grind never ends...

Awesome time to do all levels with that shotgun weapon not ingame for online yet but i want to be prepared:P

I'm sort of curious if that specific prototype is in the game yet. The main reason I did that one first (also if I can unlock that one, the hero roller should be cake compared to it)

I got to 10 after about 40 or so, but I had a 50% XP bonus from Crusty Sean

Oh I know what they do, it's just that I don't know whether stuff like Ninja-Swimming is actually useful in practice and how severe the downsides are. Like i could've ordered a body gear with 4 slots from the plaza but the first one was that weird thing where you take more time to respawn and so does the guy who killed you.

Sounds really meh on paper except when you maybe can counter it with some other gear ability like faster spawn time.

Uhm, how is you being further along in the story a factor when you have to beat the entire story to get the weapon in the first place? I'm confused now.

Tried a bit this evening and is simply incredible have a portable Splatoon, It also looks miles better than the Wii U version even on the TV, so clean and smooth.

My only concern is that in portable mode I would like to have aim with analog AND gyroscope, like in Zelda for example. Because sometimes I've to move the console a lot to aim and have the screen attached to the controller is a bit distracting.

How receptive were the devs to community wants in the first game? Or in other words, what's the likelihood of the rank requirement for League mode being removed? I don't want to play ranked but I do want to play with friends. Locking the only way to properly group up with friends behind it is some real bullshit.

Leveled up to Profreshional in Salmon Run. Sweaty... I'm not sure I can get farther than this right now. Love the mode and the randomized weapons keep it fresh, plus the water going in and out on the map!

LOL

So this just happened.

Some weird connection error occurred, and it was 1 vs 1 in turf war. I don't know why my team was credited with 1,000 each but everyone disconnected except us two. haha.

Whoops, I wrote that wrong. The further along in the story you unlock the weapon in story mode, the higher level you need to level up in multiplayer to buy it.

For example, you get the Hero Roller early in the game, so you only have to be level 3 or so in multiplayer to unlock it in the store. The weapon I beat every level with you don't get until late in the game, so I have to be level 20 to buy it.

After trying all the setups, I think the Pro Controller with motion sensitivity at -1 is where it's at as far as I'm concerned. The big camera swings are done with the right stick while the more precision-needed shots are done via motion.

I played online a bit today, reached lvl 7, But most of my day was spent on the campaign, which is hella fresh! While the graphics aren't anything to move the world upside down, I can't help myself spending time looking at the environments. The art style is top notch, everything is colorful and vibrant, a real pleasure to look at.

I used my Splatoon 1 Amiibo to unlock the equipment related to it, which leads me to the following question: Do the Splatoon 2 Amiibo unlocks campaign-like challenges like the first ones?

Is there some GAF friendcode repository where I can put mine and find others?

In the meantime, mine's SW-6083-2859-9886. Add me if you want to play with someone new to the series who can't aim yet. :P

Every one on the winning team gets 1k added to their score.

If you want to compare how you did vs the other team, subtract 1k from each score on the winning side.

So salmon run is total bullshit if you want to play with friends who aren't the same rank, you can lose all your rank but can't gain any, I think I went from over achiever to part timer due to a mixture of losses and disconnects the game penalizes you for (which I didn't cause).

Real shame.

How do you switch weapons in the single player mode? Couldn't figure that out after Sheldon explained it
