I can tell the game is going to be a loss right away on first spawn in that case
I actually think it's more important for everyone to ink their own trails to the middle of the map, right away. You can always ink home base when respawning. It's more important to secure the middle of the map so your teammates can fill in what's behind you and so you can stop the enemy from advancing toward your base. Need to keep the enemy busy or they'll start laying down ink that'll make the middle difficult to navigate.

I always make the errant assumption that people with rollers are going to be backfilling the homebase while people with more offensive minded weapons push forward, but generally speaking it's usually just a clusterfuck of people not paying attention to the game writ large and doing whatever they fancy.

Yep, Splattershot Pro is definitely the best weapon so far for ranked mode, especially Tower Control.

Depending on level, that is. Recently the Ranked Playlist was Tower Control on Mussleforge Fitness and Humpback Pump Track. It was Bucket Heaven. Beside that, I'm basically all Splattershot Pro all the time, with the occasional Jet Squelcher for Rainmaker.

There really should be some kind of XP bonus for getting the highest overall score in the match.

Yeah, the current system is very unfair. They should really award you for how much you have inked the map in the 3 minutes match and not whether you lose or not. You are now being punished even if you are way better than any of the players in the opposing team, just because your own teammates are shit. You should lose the win bonus, but you should be awarded for how much sq/m you have inked in the match. In COD, even if your team loses, you can still be a top 3 player.

What's the cost for scrubbing abilities?

Also, if you scrub an ability for ability chunks, do you have enough chunks to change that ability afterward?

The current salmon run weapon set blows ass.

Dualies, roller and octobrush are so short range that the splatling player basically has to kill the tougher bosses like Steelheads.

I'm starting to warm up to the autobomb. As long as i use it as a pressure tool and not to actually frag out. Specially deadly on maps where i can throw and then flank around

I'll say this as someone who had a 20-match winning streak earlier today and who was in first place on the team each time:

I think it's often silly to blame your teammates. You may have the most ink coverage, but at the end of the day, even if your teammates weren't inking much or splatting much, they were still keeping your enemies busy — and that means you had more room to lay down ink and attack enemies yourself.

Inking the spawn is a huge waste of time. You control mid and deny it to the enemy during the opening of a match. You can always ink trails from the spawn after you die.

Sadly a lot of people have that mindset and never ink their own turf. You can see in a low of wins, one side just didn't ink their stuff, and could easily have won.

You shouldn't be dying though as it wastes valuable time.

Plus you travel faster swimming in ink.

In the scenario you give what have you gained by running to the centre without inking your turf, dying and then inking your turf after respawning?

You've actually wasted about 10 seconds gaining zero "p".

Hypothetically, if you die 6 times you've lost nearly 1 minute out of the 3 of the whole match.

You ink a trail to mid and enough to escape. Concentrating effort to ink your base IS a waste of time early game.

You can also build your special... a lot of time I ink our side, let loose the havoc with Tentamissiles on folks clustered together for the middle.

I agree that you don't need to be ocd about covering every inch at the start, but I think it's good to cover as much as you can.

To give you an example I often see 3 people all running in the same direction, why not at least go in a different direction to others so more turf get's inked?

The maps all have enough space (and routes) for 4 people to head towards the centre covering different "lanes" in ink.

Most people I play with have been good about this luckily, if 2 people are heading the same way either I or the other person/people will split off

Anyone wants to play Salmon Run? We're three friends on Go-Getter/overachiever ranks, we'd prefer people on the same rank.

^ Feel free to add me for anything btw, even MK or Arms.

I can get my special in about 20 seconds of a match starting if I cover ground as I work my way to the middle, it's quite easy with dualies if you spray everywhere without aiming at your feet.

Rushing to the middle isn't always the best play either even in turf war so there is no real rush.

Anyone else having issues playing docked mode and using the joycons connected to a grip? I was having issues moving around, turning into a squid, etc. It might have been lag but I'm not sure.

When there are very clear "lanes" at the start and surely it makes sense for everyone to go towards the lane they are positioned for, but I've had so many games where a guy just tries to come my way and we spend ten seconds waiting for him to f*cking pick a direction.

I've tried it multiple times now and I have to agree. This is the best strategy. High level players will ink the base after respawn and you/others can control the middle ground.
Low level players won't do this but I'm now Level 11 and suddenly my team is way better.

My brother has been having a few similar issues here and there on occasion.

Yeah, this bothers me a lot too. If I'm far to the right the logic thing to do is for me to paint the route most to the right. Then I see some teammate coming from the left, crossing the way of the others and painting the same as me. WTF?

How does the spawn jump work? I feel like I don’t get it properly selected half the time. I pick a person but spawn at the base anyways.

You have to technically spawn at base, and only then can you superjump.

What I'm saying is it's normal for you to actually spawn at the base before being able to jump to your team mate.

Anyway you press x, a d-pad direction and then press A to actually superjump to near your chosen team mate.

I'm trying this out online with my brother right now. Why on earth can't we go online together from our lobby? It's only letting us play each other. Are we doing this wrong?

Ranked is kind of a shit show right now, too many skilled players still at low ranks, there's a lot of straight up blow outs.

I am so overwhelmed by how AMAZING this game is. Seriously. I did not expect to have that much fun. The theme, the gameplay, movement, graphics - all spot on.

I am new to Splatoon, I used to avoid online shooters like a plague and yet this game online is GLORIOUS.

I sure still suck, relatively, but getting the quirks of each weapons right and using them to boss through the matches or turn the tide of the match feels really fun, even when people do tend, as it has been mentioned before, to treat turf war like a regular shooter and not care about the coverage as much - the matches can get very frustrating when they head blindly into the enemy's base and getting decimated really quickly.

Still, if the match is balanced enough they can be very exhilarating and just blast to play.
I'm still bit shy about Ranked - Tower control was a messy mayhem, Rainmaker much more fun - but I never thought that I will be interested in getting deeper into it. (Perhaps the level of competitive play will sour me a little, who knows)

As it stands I kinda left the single player for times I can't really sit down to multiplayer with 100% attention - it's lovely but it's more like a prep for online play. It feels a little like an afterthought however polished it is.

I got it with the switch because apparently that was the only way to secure the console and god what a great introduction.

Having said that, does software bought on eShop have digital instructions? There's few things that I wanted to find explanations on.

Is it possible to change your ingame nickname?

Worse still, I noticed people camping a lot which can get irritating.

Damn, Rainmaker is pissing me off. Too many people don't want to go right for the Rainmaker and go off doing there own thing. Made a path for the guy with the Rainmaker, cleared all the bad guys out and he wanted to sit on the bridge and try to splat guys. Ended up losing.

I'm purely on wifi and I've been fine.

This is me. I have been using wifi for gaming for years and I have never had any problem in any of my games, except when Comcast turn off my router at random times. If an issue happens, it's usually on the other end.

I have won a few matches by noticing my enemy is not paining their base. I made sure ours is painted and then we tied in the middle. Super funny seing a whole section unpainted on the win screen

What's the cost for scrubbing abilities?

Also, if you scrub an ability for ability chunks, do you have enough chunks to change that ability afterward?

20,000 coins to scrub a piece of gear. You get an ability chunk for each ability you scrub and it costs 10 ability chunks (particular to the ability you want) to buy an ability on a piece of gear. So you'll have to grind a bunch.
