I have a question about abilities in gear. I see that some gear has one ability, then a mystery ability that unlocks as you use it. But how do I apply abilities to the other slots that are empty? Also, is there a way to change abilities on clothes I think look good, but have useless abilities attached?
... Talk to Murch.

Yeah it's so much fun! I don't understand the leveling system. Does the game get harder the more you rank up? Or does that just affect your "pay"? I heard a lot about the difficulty in Salmon Run, were they talking about settings in local mode - or does it it eventually get much harder in online?
it get's harder the more you rank up.
Payment is an indicator how high the difficulty is.
For example:
180% payment is the same as 80% difficulty in the local salmon run

I think I'm really starting to get my head around the Slosher. People just don't respect it! They'll run up on you with dualies, not realizing that you out-damage and out-range them.

If unlock the Salmon Run shirt again and replace my old one do I get ability chunks?

I know I get chunks if I scrap the new one.

The in game description is incorrect too then? Cause it's worded the same exact way as the Direct.

Confirming that the in-game description is also incorrect. It's supposed to be a double-edged sword mechanic; they've just communicated the concept rather poorly.

Uh what the fuck are you supposed to do in the Salmon Run mode with the pipes? No golden eggs showed up ever.

Gotta hit them pipes. Scour the place until a special Goldie pops out, then shoot at it and keep shooting. If possible, force it to run towards the basket to make collecting multiple eggs easier.

Supposedly, you can tell how close you are to a Goldie by the glow of the pipes. I just hit everything. lol Should probably do screen caps for review later...

Hmmm. I really like this game, as a newcomer this game is rad. The music especially is great stuff. But my aim is way off. It feels like when I move the right analog I overshoot by far...

You can change the sensitivity settings for the sticks and the motion controls in the options. If you feel like you're overshooting, change it up.

Been running this too. Losing B-Bombs and Attack Up perks exposed my Jet Squelcher horribly. Thermal Ink somewhat mitigates the low TTK, and I'm playing the gun more appropriately.

Thermal Ink is pretty good on Gatling too, but I think Ink and Run Speed perks are too important to drop.

I WISH Thermal Ink applied to Sprinklers.

I tried using Jet Squelcher early on in Splatoon 1 but dropped it in favor of the Dual Squelcher, but here it's got a really solid kit and I feel either the gun fires a tad quicker or it's better at getting kills.

Thermal ink applying to sprinklers would be crazy.

I should not even be asking this question but the ranking up is weird

Does each mode have its own rank? Cuz I went from rank C- to C+ (skipping C) and then when I come back on later I am at C- then jump to B+ after 3-4 matches.

WTF is going on with my rank?? Also how do you dodge roll with dualies?

Each mode has its own rank yea.

Dodge roll with dualies by pressing jump button while shooting

anyone got a guide or something that shows what each icon means in the gear upgrades?

It's in the game. Hover over the gear/weapon then press ZL for info. Then - for the guide

Whew, finally made it to B- on all three ranked modes. I think this is where my skill level tops up at. With how much I had to struggle through C, I can't imagine ever reaching A.

I said the same in Splatoon 1, but I reached A+...

Give it some time, especially now (there's a lot of skilled players in lower ranks currently)

We hit every pipe. A goldie never came out.

I still don't understand how the Goldie works. What do you have to do to get it out of its hiding place?

If you can't be arsed to figure out its location by the glow (I certainly can't), spread out and hit every last pipe until it pops out. Every other enemy being Smallfry/Chum/Cohocks makes it pretty manageable.

Huh. Either you missed a pipe or you had a glitched run, which would suck. :(

And what about me ranking up from C- to B+ after a few matches (skipping C and C+)

And this is why motion controls can really help with your aim.

While checking your gear on the equip screen, press ZL for more info on the abilities.

How are you doing with the Toxic Mist? It feels like it's supposed to zone more than be used like the Disruptor, but I don't feel like I'm getting much out it either way. Advice?

So I just got my 3rd perk on my 4 slot boots... and all 3 of them are ink reduction for the main weapon... and the headgear got 2 special attack buffs and my shirt got 2 special attack charge buffs. wtf is going on lol. I don't know If i really want to keep boots with 3 ink redutions on it... thats kinda too much. Does anyone know if the mitigation of buff effects take place on each gear or throughout the whole loadout?

Like, if I have one ink cost recudtion on my headgear and one on my shoes, does the effect still get reduced?

Kinda sucks you can only wipe all slots at once. Would be neat if you had the option to wipe one for 10 k or something.

I really like this game, but the party system is garbage. That I can't team up with a friend and play a MP match is pretty bad. I don't have 8 Nintendo friends total, let alone 8 I can party up with and chat and play.

The lack of availability of the horde mode miffs me as well. It's all good and dandy that it's available 8am-8pm today, but I can't play until after 9 most nights.

All in all, it's really fun, but some of the decisions on it are just typical Nintendo.

What's the best use for the sprinkler? I figured it would be to put it in a hard to reach place to just guarantee constant ink coverage. How are you supposed to use it in actual combat?

It can be broken easily so I do just that, throw it on walls or in a quiet place and leave it alone to do it's job, if you pace your ink well enough you can throw one and go cover another area at the same time.

Ugh.

I won like 10 in a row in Ranked and...got from C- to C. I thought you were supposed to be able to skip if you do well?

This is going to take forever. I just want to play league, randos suck.

OK, good. I won't try throwing it out in fights then.

Any other tips for the chain gun? I like the range and how quickly it gets kills, plus how ink efficient it is, but I'm worried that if I get jumped I'm just fucked because of the charge up required.

That method of thinking is why 2 of my team mates are constantly respraying the area around our spawn when everyone NEEDS to be pushing the center so we can reclaim the largest amount of captured land.

This mentality of "it doesn't matter if I get killed as long as I cover ground" has poisoned the minds of new people playing this game. You can't cover ground if you're dead. If the team wipes, then you lose everything and you spend the rest of the match trying to fight out of your spawn.

THANK YOU! Geeze. I see people using that "free real estate" meme for painting behind the spawn early and I'm like, "no man, YOU'LL NEED THAT LATER!"

At what point do you cover your own base if not at the beginning? I saw so many lost matches in the Splatoon 1 and few in 2 that were lost because no one covered their own base with ink.

I have used ink reduction on all 3 items and it's very noticible, the effect stacks so it's up to you how much you want to use it really.

took me a while to get a feel for combat after using dualies a lot, the biggest problem is that it's a low hanging weapon so you will quite often be unable to shoot over a little slope or wall because the barrel is hung low.

Same thing, pretty sure we hit every pipe and it only came out later out of the ones we hit earlier.

Boss rushes on the lower level of the boat are such bullshit. Fucking fly fishes hiding at the end of the piers behind waves of enemies are utterly impossible to deal with.

On the way from respawn to the centre. Don't waste time on it, but if there's a route to the centre like this:

X
X
X
X
X

where you can see the right side is mostly unsplattered, prefer that route and use jump into shoot into squid into swim into jump into shoot into squid into swim to combine painting missing areas with building your meter with progressing to the centre.

Is there any real reason to play Splatoon 2's single player? I'm gonna be away, and I thought I might play through it. Is there anything to unlock for MP? I heard something about hero weapons. Do they have better stats than your standard weapons?

At least play through the first world of single player so you can exploit the unlimited XP food tickets in the hub of world two.

I've been finding some great success with it. Generally I use it to either zone out my opponents or if they're getting close using using it as a pseudo disruptor to make getting the splat a bit easier.

Opening a match I also like to throw it right at the main objective in mid like the zone, tower or if they blow the rainmaker shield up first where the fish is at before they pick it up. It's pretty flexible and helps the weapon's slow ttk. I hope this helps!

Stick to the high ground, got it. So kind of treat it like a charger? Don't get ganked and look for high up spots to abuse your range.

Yeah I'm thinking I will, but idk if I need to get a pro controller first or nah...

I played in both styles and i kinda like the pro a little bit better in the hands, but the joycons are quite fine too. I use the cons if i want to play a bit more relaxed, but imo both work fine for the game even competitive wise.

So it's not a 100% must have for the game. But it's nice to have tho.

Word. Will practice with it later. Thanks!
