All I can say is, I'd never thought this would be Bengus Art. Sometimes artist's get rushed or payed too little.

I think that's all. Should I convert them to imgur files now?
Might be for the best. Don't want them going down.

I really do wonder if things would have been better had they not put so much effort into the story and just put out a base game with a massive roster.

They looked at NRS' success and thought it was the story mode they needed to take them over the edge, but they had to make sacrifices along the way due to budget, inexperience, or what have you. But I feel like this game would have also gotten shit for doing MvC3 all over again, and even if they did that we probably wouldn't have gotten X-Men base and that's probably the biggest complaint for the game. Not only that, but Marvel Games keeps reiterating that story story story is at the core of everything they do. That bit was inevitable.

We've all written lengthy lists of the causes of why the state of MvC:I is what it is pre-release because of things Marvel and Capcom won't budge on, but man, I'm not sure what they could have done if they only had an AA budget to work with. Things would be more or less preferable to people, and PR could have definitely avoided some terrible mistakes, but I don't know if this game could have ever been the game to bring Capcom back or reach the expectations of MvC3. That probably drove the decision not to make it MvC4 in the first place.

I guess I'm excited just to have it, and would rather have it than not have it. Where Marvel and Capcom are as companies at this moment is not conducive to a proper MvC4, so I can rationalize the existence of a relatively budget B title like this, and enjoy it for what it is. This is like, one of my favourite franchises of all time so I was basically in no matter what (but the game also looks super fun to me), but despite that personal investment, I get many of the gripes and frustrations here, especially for a fully priced title. I just hope if/when the game gets to a point where people are satisfied with it, they do jump in, and stay in. But I have my doubts about that. I don't have faith in any GaaS title recovering from a commercial launch failure. This game needs that community to begin with.

Marvel has nothing to do with it. Story mode seems like a direct response to SFV getting raked over the coals for the lack of single player content.

For what its worth story mode also seems to be trash like SFV with characters awkwardly standing around looking goofy and constant loading screens. If only they could have copied NRS way of doing story where the cutscenes transition in and out of battle seamlessly without constant loading screens.

SFV story mode was dumpster trash and Im willing to bet this will be the same.

The snippets shown at Comic Con seemed to get a pretty positive reception

SFV's Story Mode wasn't far off from what NRS regularly delivers in terms of writing, but it was at its best when it wasn't being too serious and instead went for silly fun (every time Zangief was on screen). There's a good chance MvC will just double down on fanservice moments, which is really all most casual players will want anyway.

To be fair what little Ive seen of MvCI does look a bit better but they really need to sort out those loading screens. Seriously, its so jarring seeing loading screens after every other minute.

VAs sucking is really my only complaint about the story mode. And that's a complaint that extends across the entirety of the game. Also maybe that you have limited time to play any character so you have to learn on the fly (IIRC Injustice 1 is really good about this).

Dialogue is what I expect and could use a bit more wit but I think they've hit the right tone and campiness.

My standards are pretty low for fighting game story modes, though. I'm basically just judging cutscene quality because I haven't played a story mode where the gameplay within was anything to be impressed with.

Oddly enough, I really enjoy (and way more than story modes) grinding through arcade modes to get arcade endings. That's the completionist in me, but I like completing tasks for rewards, as small as they may be.

We are never going to have a Marvel 3 type situation again where we had so many newcomers.

Marvel 2's roster was never that great to begin with, too many missing holes and franchises. Going forward you aren't going to be missing out on the franchises.

Like Marvel 2 not having Thor in the game was a big deal even back in the day so Marvel 3 was obviously going to have Thor in it, same for Marvel Infinite.

With Marvel Infinite out, we have consolidated to the must have veterans of both sides. Like there is no way Capcom is ever going to put out a VS game without Dante in it. The same applies to other veterans, they are just too big and known to cut so they have to be in the game.

That leaves less room for newcomers. It was inevitable for a future Marvel game after 4.

They still could have done better with the newcomer to veterans ratio but remember... every time they remove a veteran for a newcomer, someone will get upset. Look at how many people started getting mad at the thought of no Zero in this game.

This, Definitely This. I have been saying same thing over and over.

Just put imgur links in, haven't removed the previewsworld links though

I wonder how long it will take before the story mode characters will be modded into being playable like the Dolls were in SFV...I mean, if they aren't already.

Mohran will be the new Galactus online(?) :P

They need to Smash Bros the series and just keep adding adding adding.

Not gunna lie, I feel like if I had as much time with the game as Max, I'd probly be more optimistic with the game as well. Theres no denying that the game is fun.

EDIT: My only problem with the game really is that its swag-less. From the art style to the roster, Its completely dry.

We could talk all day long about what this game SHOULD have been.

We can only hope that Marvel Infinite is successful enough long term that they can learn from their mistakes and deliver a better product in Marvel vs Capcom 4.

Because if this game fails then MVC is done for quite a while.

Considering Max is the only source of advertisement for the game I can understand why he would have to defend himself. It's not really his fault Capcom and Marvel have been so inept.

you can understand he has to constantly go "I know people will hate to hear this" like its normal for people to be upset that someone likes something they dont?

"IM SO ANGRY HE ENJOYS THE THING I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD HATE GRRRR!"

get the fuck outta here with that childish bullshit

It's so shitty for Max that the message has to be delivered in that way to bolster against potential angry fans that are calling anyone who likes the game a shill.

Yeah, he's doing all the shit they did back before MvC3 released that they used to do themselves, it's insane.

I think in the video he kinda reveals why though- due to this game using the SFxT tag system, it may actually be way less casual friendly at a competitive level than MvC3 was!

Yeah, I'm totally seeing the same thing as Max when it comes to catering to casuals... that is to say, not much.

There are still waaaaaay too many systems and different things to keep track of in this game that a casual will never be able to grasp. They'll be getting fucking annihilated on day one and have no idea what hit them.

Swag less? Have u seen how the tag system allows for so much creativity. A swag less game is something like SFV.

Like I said a bit ago, I feel like this game has a higher skill floor than Marvel 3 and feels waaay less accessible in almost every way, down to the button layout.

EDIT: Great video from Max, as always. It's super shitty that people get angry at others for liking something else. Inexcusable.

The "casual" stuff looks to be farce based on what we know. I still see people on occasion talk about how "dumbed down" the game is for newbs. Yeah, no.

I usually lurk around instead of posting, but I don't know why you guys are thinking Venom can't be DLC. Agent Venom would be an all new character to the series while stil being the symbiote, which kind of kills the hype a little for me, let's hope I'm wrong :(

Agent Venom won't bring in the bucks.

Plus, Flash no longer has the symbiote and Eddie Brock is Venom again. Venom movie will be Eddie as well.

The .zip leak would have said "Agent Venom" if it was Flash Thompson. Marvel has made that distinction clear in other games.

Agent Venom would be too cool. That's why we're getting regular Venom.

I liked Max's video he's been putting up some pretty good content but its not much fun having to trust some streamer's opinions. They should just have a beta just to make sure online works. cause I'm less concerned about the roster (I only have time to master like 3-4 fighters as-is).

More concerned can I actually play online at launch

Max with another good video. It's a bit sad that the story demo did more harm than good it seems. Especially when compared to the Vs builds. It really does seem like Capcom went "SFV only needed a story mode" and didn't think much past that in terms of marketing.

Going back to the Venom cover thing, here's a cover Raney did recently for Captain America - Steve Rogers #13.

latest

Compare that to the MvC cover we got, and something obviously seems to be up. I asked him on Twitter if the artwork is incomplete or not, but I'll have to wait on a response.

Max's latest video: nope.

Strider is not Mahvel, nor is he is the reason to support.

Fuck Strider's wack ass.
Max never asked anyone to support the game, much less because Strider, the heck are you on about?

I doubt they'll answer. Even if it were incomplete or rushed rather than replaced, they're probably not at liberty to discuss it.

Yeah it's looking like the game is deep as hell in regards to what you potential options are in every situation. The only thing that makes it super casual feeling is the Auto Combo and everyone who actually plays fighting games will turn that right off.

Kinda sucks that Max has to apologize for enjoying a game, haha. Good video though, dood. I devoured that SDCC footage...

He shouldn't ever have to, but really it's self-defense in a way because there are legit crazy people who will do shit over someone having a different opinion about a videogame of all things.
