Wait, are they boring 'Hollywood movie' versions of the old themes or completely different pieces of music? I really hope its not the latter. :-(

Completely different pieces of music. They sounds like generic "cinematic score". Even themes that were introduced last game are replaced.

Marvel was a giant pain the ass long before Disney bought them.

Yeah, but now with Disney at the helm, there is an added layer of control whenever it comes to PR & marketing. Trust me - EA would love to tell & show you stuff RE: Star Wars Battlefront 2 at their leisure. They just have fuck tons of red tape to go through anytime they want to show a single shot of footage. Meanwhile, anyone within Disney marketing/PR can & does show anything at their leisure.

RIP Nova's theme.

I dunno, Sony is doing well with Spiderman so far.

She-Hulk's a given, except a lot of characters were "given"s for the main roster and they didn't happen so who knows?

Titania would be legit, tho.

The only question is whether or not She-Hulk is hype enough for being DLC.

I guess they could pair her with someone more hype, like Wesker or Vergil or a newcomer if they were too worried.
I don't know, before I used to think they left a lot of really big popular characters for DLC as a ways to make more money but at this point I honestly can't tell if that's the only reason.

In SFV, EVERYONE was expecting Sagat as one of the characters in S2 and yet it turned out to be Akuma and FIVE completely new characters. I refuse to believe that a season of all veterans wouldn't have sold more than a season of almost entirely new characters. Yet Capcpom did it anyway.

Perhaps there were sanctions placed on the marvel side like maybe they want characters to coincide with big happenings for the character (movie, new comic issue that's a game-changer, TV show) or maybe it's something on the Capcpom side. Maybe they experimented with a lot of characters but couldn't come to a clear cut way to make them function well in the 2v2 format?

I honestly don't know, all I know is I better have a green female lawyer in the game before the end of next year or there's gonna be heck to pay Capcpom!

Several aspects of this game (roster, sound, visuals, marketing) are a massive step down from the previous installment. Gameplay is subjective, but I personally enjoy MvC3’s control scheme a hell of a lot more than MvCI’s.
  • Between the dearth of series newcomers and absence of Fox characters, the roster is abysmal. Wolverine has been playable in all six of Capcom’s Marvel fighting games to date. He was the only character with perfect attendance until now.
  • The art direction is sterile and soulless, and several of the character models look utterly terrible. The only question Capcom allowed at their big MvC Comic-Con panel was a pre-selected question from Ono asking about Chun-Li’s face. I can’t make this shit up.
  • All of the classic Marvel character themes are gone and replaced with generic Hollywood blockbuster music.
  • The voice acting is flat and unexciting, the sound mixing is poor, and most of the new voice actors are worse than their MvC3 counterparts. Everyone sounds like they were recorded in a bathroom stall while on Ambien.
  • The presentation is lazy and amateurish. Was an intern paid fifty bucks to put together the menus and character select screen?
  • The PR is borderline insulting: “legacy won’t be lost,” “we were not confined to the MCU,” “characters are just functions,” et cetera.
  • The marketing is practically nonexistent. Remember MvC3’s hype-inducing CG trailers, silhouette teases, individual character trailers, and public character reveals with crazy crowd reactions? I certainly do.
I hate seeing this happen to one of my favorite video game series.

In addition to this, for as much as they want to talk about story mode and being friendly to newcomers (lol), it seem so barebones. Any difficulty levels? Branching levels? Any single player options beyond just story mode? Any tutorial? Online features? Who the fuck knows and we're only a month and some change until launch. Shoot I think we had more info about SFV at this point.

I'm really expecting the game to be a shitshow at launch, and wouldn't be surprised if online only barely works and rage quitting has no consequence because for some godawful reason developers forget (or publishers push them to release before they can develop) to make a functional online.

...well at least the core gameplay will be fun. :(

This is how I feel. Even though I felt a little let down by the end product, the hype leading to MvC3 was fantastic. It grabbed the fanbase, and I'm sure brought in plenty of casual fans too.

Wow. Capcom couldn't even get those themes back for this game? If it wasn't for returning movesets we'd be saying the legacy is completely lost.

I am extremely disappointed by that. RIP jazzy Spider-Man theme. :-(

Btw, while you're here....any idea what happened to Ant-Man?

Only things I can complain about with this game so far is

Control scheme (which I'll get used to)
Voice acting is trash
Music is trash so far imo

Otherwise, I'm happy AF

I'm still looking forward to this game but I agree with everyone pointing toward a Capcom All-Stars game. We wouldn't have to worry about losing Ace Attorney, Viewtiful Joe or Okami representation for no reason, it'd be the perfect excuse to throw fan-favorites like Captain Commando, Cyberbots and Rival Schools a bone, hell, it could even take over the 3v3 format from MvC2/3. That's always been a game I've wanted to see happen but I really think that's what I'd want to see from Capcom before SF6 or MvC5.

That said, from Capcom's perspective, meeting Marvel halfway for some stupid demands (I think it's safe to say they're responsible for the butchered character themes, uninspired art style and lack of all X-Men/F4 content) is probably worth it to get the Marvel license on their game in a post-Avengers world. It's obviously upsetting for us fans of the series but there aren't many more popular brands that would be willing to collaborate with them like this. This game might not do as well as it could have but it's definitely going to do better than it would without Iron Man and Captain America front and center on the cover.

Man, if She-Hulk makes it in, I hope she gets a gray Jen!Hulk skin. I really like that run so far, tbh and she looks cool.

Another thing is that for all of their lip service about accessibility, I've seen nothing that indicates that the game is more accessible. In fact, I'd say it looks even less accessible, with the button config and the lack of comeback mechanics.

I don't understand this game, from the perspective of "Marvel is meddling because they want a high selling game with mass appeal".

Honestly if Marvel wants to make an MCU story focused fighter, why tie themselves down to the need to make the visuals work for both an MCU Hawkeye and Strange and a cartoony Arthur and X, or limit the quality of the story by mashing these tonally disparate universes together and having the cheesy kids show dialogue where every character has to say the other's name (and you can feel the ™ at the end of it) and we're supposed to clap when we hear it.

Even assuming the Lego games Traveler's Tales WB/Marvel arrangement is a specialty case and nothing more, could they not find someone else or someone new to break into the console fighting genre? Convince Kabam to expand scope?

And if they cared about accessibility to reach a bigger audience, are Capcom just hiding the footage of Zero loops, or more likely the Marvel people heard less characters to control and auto combos and assumed more mass market success without knowing enough about the genre to account for overbearing hard to defend against offense and how it feels to get long comboed in these games.

Either way, it's clear that making "Injustice for Marvel" (Sales target), runs contrary to the MvC series identity and history, and you'd have to make an actual Injustice for Marvel (aesthetics and gameplay) to really reach that.

But the problem with that is, if they care about accessibility, mass appeal, or sales at all then they wouldn't be making a 2D fighter at all.

Hero Shooters, Arena Fighters, lots of things that would sell better inherently.

I feel like fans of old MvC won't get that again as long as Marvel chases more sales, and they don't know enough about games or the genre to know how to achieve the sale they want, so those of us who really want an Injustice with Marvel characters won't get that either.

It really seems like a lose lose situation.

Another thing is that for all of their lip service about accessibility, I've seen nothing that indicates that the game is more accessible. In fact, I'd say it looks even less accessible, with the button config and the lack of comeback mechanics.

I mean it's almost always bullshit, and we all know it's bullshit....but I feel like they try to put more of an effort than this in the past to try to trick casuals into thinking it'll finally be accessible for them.

Honestly fighting games need to introduce some sort of community hub like a Miiverse where we can share tutorials/combos/etc within the game so we can teach each other instead of having newcomers rely on learning how to dig through SRK/Dustloop/Eventhubs/Youtube/Facebook/Twitter/etc for tutorials and tech. Even stuff like Skullgirls/Killer Instinct tutorials isn't enough imo.

Releasing a rushed piece of shit in the jam packed September/October/November period when the big boys are dropping the AAA titles is the very definition of a death wish.

OR

Releasing a polished Marvel game alongside possibly the biggest Marvel movie of all time when Marvel hype is at an all time high, additional marketing for the game is done by the movie marketing being everywhere, plus May is a less competitive month when it comes to new game releases (Injustice gets it).
Yes, they're going to polish the game with the money they clearly don't have, market it with that same money, and compete against a fighting game so hype it would probably eat up an NRS game sales-wise.

The farthest they could delay it is December. Any further and they lose too much (relevence, Holiday sales, far launch from DBF, budget, etc) to justify the extra sales they'll make. Believe me, the fact that they thought Chun-Li was presentable and their response to the criticism shows that a delay of even a few months, nonetheless next year, was always out of the picture.

They really just need to be forthcoming about what it is. Set expectations, back those up with, you know, actual prepped footage of the game and consistent communication, and boom that's a wrap. Many people are out of line about the game but so much of the damage is self inflicted it's not even funny.

This game has sauce but they've declined to let people taste it.

Looking forward to whooping ass in it and watching people play. Their sales targets aren't gonna be pretty but the game looks fun and I don't have Capcom stock so eh.

Still hype for the game despite it's public impression. Gameplay looks super solid which is all I can ask for. Roster? I'm down with it.

How can some of you suggest dropping this series in favor of Capcom All Stars? You guys can't even handle Xmen not being part of the base roster and all of a sudden you just want to drop the Marvel roster altogether. Imagine this game with no Marvel characters and just a Capcom roster.

Well the dropped Marvel roster would be replaced by Capcom characters. Same for a game like MSH, the Capcom side would be dropped for more Marvel characters.

I personally don't care about Marvel and no Marvel means Regina is lock. Every MvC game I play purely capcom side unless I'm cheesing with doom or something.

I'm imagining a good game. I don't like that the mouse is controlling this game so much. I'd much rather capcom have control over this fully (and fail on their own if they have to). I also don't care for marvel that much outside of a few characters who won't be in this game.

I think the idea is that Marvel 3 didn't appear to have nearly as much input (or, to call it what it is, restriction) from Marvel as this game does and it was a more creative and distinct game as a result. This game has had a lot of its identity sucked out of it in what looks like an effort to make it more closely resemble the MCU, so we'd rather Capcom just go all in with another project that would allow them to do whatever they feel like, and probably get a more memorable game as a result.

There's a lot that I love about this game but it would certainly be easier to defend if it didn't seem like they were actively trying to get away from everything that made 3 appealing.

I'm attached with a lot of Capcom's characters. With the Marvel's ones... Neither so much nor with so many.

If Capcom was smart they would've asked to make a Marvel Super Heroes 2 (which this game almost is to be honest) with 40ish Marvel characters, then made a Capcom All Stars with 40ish Capcom characters, hell squeeze in a few extra. These games would've been 2v2 plus some gimmick.

Then combine them all into one asset dump alongside all the missing ones from Marvel 3 and call it Marvel 4 while adding like 6 new characters and making it 3v3 custom assists and you can call two assists at once.

Biggest roster ever.

Well a Capcom All Stars wouldn't be a Marvel vs Capcom game so stuff like missing X-Men wouldn't matter to begin with. Pretty much replace the 25 Marvel characters from UMvC3 with 25 Capcom and I'm good.

I'd be down for this.

At this point i don't have complains about the gameplay, Switch seems really fun.

Its just everything else. Yesterday i saw the leaked Infinity War trailer, and i just cannot believe that the only characters that doesn't feature in the biggest MCU movie are:

Dormammu (but hes here because Dr. Strange)
Captain Marvel (because her movie its next)
Ultron (previous MCU big movie)
Venom (solo movie coming ahead)

Capcom characters doesn't count. But so far, Only X, Jedah, Hunter and Sigma are new to the series. The rest are characters with recicled assest.

Now come and tell me guys that this doesn't mean anything or doesn't hurt the quality of the game. I dare you

EDIT¨: Nova, while not being in the MCU movie, has a movie coming i believe. Also the NOVA Corps are already stablished into the MCU.

We most certainly knew the entire roster for SFV by this time prior to launch. Watch when it releases people will say the gameplay is good but everything else is meh. SFV all over again folks, what I've been saying since before the leaks even started happening.

Well this has to have been the most underwhelming reveal we've gotten yet. It is nice that we got an official confirmation for Dormammu and Firebrand, but with it being shared with this much lackluster behind it, I felt as though there should have been a *yawn* after it.

We are about six weeks out from the game! We should be feeling hype since we are nearing the game's release! Instead, it does feel like you are dragging the game's carcass up a hill just to dump it off a cliff when you get there.

I suppose that we will get one more set of reveals sometime this month since we need to round out the roster and see the last stone in action...

I mean, Ultron, Captain Marvel and Black Panther are new to the series.

But yes the roster of new and "new" (first 3D conversion) characters is 8 to 32, where the rest are mostly recycled and touched up from the last game. Rosterwise the game's a mess.

No he doesn't, at least not right now.

The player base of the game only know about Marvel from Avengers /s

They had the audacity to come out and say your modern Marvel fan don't remember X-men.

I'm honestly imagining the same game with no Marvel characters. I don't think Capcom would magically become Capcom of the past if they decided to create that game.

We'll get it at Gamescom and watch their announcement be met with yawns and then it get overshadowed by bigger news at the event. This shit is sad.

Counting characters "new" to the series its even worse and hurts the game even more.

Black Phanter
Ultron
Sigma
Captain Marvel
Gamora
Jedah
Hunter
Venom you can count him considering hes gonna be all 3D (you can also count Thanos)

That is just a joke

They fasho didn't touch up Dante.

You can't throw 1 or 2 X-men there now? well at least throw us some crazy additions or some interesting characters...Vision would be cool to play as man, how can't they see it? and i don't know, maybe Quasar, someone from Agent of Atlas, i don't know, anything, they can figure it out.

If Marvel can't provide us with the crazy side of roster, lets at least Capcom do it. They can use their imagination to add crazy new and unexpected capcom characters...or legacy characters everybody wants.

Its just to think we don't have Wesker, Asura, or Captain Commando and its make me laugh. We have Strider, at least.
