That feeling when the other team's been controlling the match the whole time, you manage to kill all of them in a few seconds and your team actually uses the chance to paint like crazy and retake the map, winning by 0.3%. Awesome!

My team did this twice in a row. We were losing badly for the entire match, then in the last minute we broke out, wasted the team, and won by 3 to 4%. One of them I did personally by my missile special killing one of them members and me personally killing two people. That was all my team needed to take the game.

Such a highlight for me. lol

this post makes no sense. if all pros choose one side to play against other pros then they're would be 2 scenarios:

they dont play against other pros because just one team has pros. so... pointless
they play against the same team, which doesnt count in the splatfest

Pros will choose the least popular side to match with other pros in the same team.

real talk being able to keep up pressure for 3 minutes is actually a function of skill not luck

Honestly, I hate it both ways. I don't find it fun or satisfying when I'm on the receiving end of a game long battering and then get a turnaround and win miraculously at the last second. It doesn't undo the annoyance of the first 2 and half minutes of the game, and I don't feel like I deserved to win.

It's not like an insane overtime rainmaker run, an incredible minute long overtime zone hold, or overtime travel from your Base to theirs on the tower. Just feels unearned when my team pulls it off and frustrating when it happens to us.

Yep that's why I hate turf war. Dominate for 90 percent of the game then lose because of bad luck at the end.

Can't wait until splatfest is over so I can play a mode that isn't shockingly boring. It's a fine mode for beginners to get to grips with but it's too swingy and also lends itself (despite being a beginner friendly design) to spawn camping more than every other mode.

Also going to have to pick pearl's side every future splat fest just so I can actually play more than one game a year.

Spawn camping is the worst thing you can do in this game. You have a shield around your base and you can easily kill the entire team. My team did this a lot of times to overly aggressive teams and won the entire match after being beating up the entire time. This happens to me when my teammates go off to the enemy base and get wiped, giving them an opening to make comeback.

On the other hand, it's really infuriating when you manage to kill 3-4 guys in the last minute..and your team is nowhere to be seen, which is the most common thing to happen.

I actually quite like shifty station. It's a bit too flat but the moving parts mean it's easier to break out of spawn of you're being camped since one side if the team can't easily get to backup the other side without a jump.

I'd agree in the first game, but in these maps the line between holding mid and spawn camping is so thin it's almost invisible. Most maps have the spawn exits drop right into the edge of mid. Spawn camping and holding mid are practically the same thing half the time. Particularly on maps like starfish mainstage.

It's why I much prefer moray and mackerel to most maps. I don't even like moray that much, but they feel like the only two maps that give a fair game most of the time in turf war. There's actually distance to cover from mid to spawn.

Actual pump track is good too, since the way it's laid out means that despite being compact there's quite a long run to push to the enemy base that the team being pinned back doesn't have to follow.

True. I remember one time I killed the entire team at least twice, had a score of over 1000 with a weapon I usually get 600-700 on, and we lost in a stomped. I was salty. lol

Another time, I was literally fighting a whole team by myself and my teammates were nowhere in sight. I had no clue what they were doing and it was a good thing this game doesn't have voice chat because I reached Overwatch level of rage.

It's true in this game. Most of the time, it's the newer maps where this happened since the other team can't reached the spawn point, giving the team free reign to shoot you freely. Did it all the time in the stage and art level.

Rainmaker would be more fun if people knew what they were doing.

I don't really blame them though. The game kind of just tosses people into modes they've never seen before.

Do most of you guys use the Pro Controller to play? I've been using the joy con and grip. I heard the pro controller is the best experience.

No more Splatfest for me today, ended with 31W-17L for team Ketchup, did my part :) Max battle power 2146.6. C´mon ketchup team, don´t let me down (I know you will as you have been doing for most of the Splatfest).

Those results are due to disconnects or people handling heir controllers to their cats.

Also, what's the point of the power meter?

I believe Power assists in matchmaking. The game will attempt to match people with players of similar skill level and then pit them against an opposing team with as close to the same power as possible. That way you're a little less likely to end up paired with people far worse at the game than you and going up against higher ranked players.

I asked before, but how our the solo battle percentage done? Are they based on your performance as an individual based on your power score?

I doubt that giving the teams I were giving. How can anyone have a score of over 1600 if you can't even break 600 on an Aero.

Maybe? Some people are finding success with split joycons as the right one acts as aim. In saying that I'm using the pro, because it's the splatoon one so I feel I have to use it while inking.
Oh and FYI I'm pretty bad at this game :)

Team Mayo all the way baby, keep your fruit blood to yourself losers!!! Just proves the filthy scrub masses enjoy ketchup ;)

I don't think I've seen a single person have mayonnaise with their Fish 'n' Chips.

Putting anything but salt (and maybe vinegar) on your chips is wrong. Ketchup or mayo is for dipping and should be to the side.

the UK ain't a part of the continent anymore, in any way hur hur

I actually had a lest-second comeback today on Port Mackerel which didn't even involve wiping the other team. They had been killing us the whole game, we were barely holding on in our own side. In the last 30 seconds I respawn and see one of our guys has snuck deep into their territory, I super-jump to them and we start painting like crazy while our two other teammates manage to hold serve with the enemy on our side, and we end up winning by like 10 points even though they had the splat count edge the entire game.

Like for the final tally?
I think it's as simple as:
Popularity - % of players on each side
Team - % of battles won by each side in Team Battle mode when not playing against their own team.
Solo - % of battles won by each side in Regular Battle mode when not playing against their own team.

I doubt that giving the teams I were giving. How can anyone have a score of over 1600 if you can't even break 600 on an Aero.
Might have been people who haven't finished their 7 initial Power matches, or just like going up against your own team, the server can't find someone with the right power so they just toss a random person in the group so you don't have to keep waiting to play.

"Lost connection to team. Returning to Lobby."
"Lost connection to team. Returning to Lobby."

Maybe just connect to another one automatically? Just a thought.

What do you guys think of the new map? I like it, but I wish we had some maps with more verticality and paintable walls, all maps feel a bit flat right now (except Moray, and even that´s a S1 map).

Do most of you guys use the Pro Controller to play? I've been using the joy con and grip. I heard the pro controller is the best experience.
Usually I play with the grip, for some reason I find it more comfortable than split joycons and helps me aim better. It´s also more comfy for when I use the Octobrush and have to mash ZR.

I think the power ratings are higher in this splatfest compared to ranked and the last splatfest test.

In the test I managed around 1800 power as my highest and my teams were on average about 1700 power. In ranked it's pretty much the same, 1700-1800 power in most matches (apart from rainmaker where the range is much wider for some reason, more like 1500-1800).

In this one I feel like I'm winning less than the demo and ranked (especially rainmaker...) but every team I've been on aside from the first few games has been 2000+ and my lowest even after a few losses has been like 1980.

I see. I thought Team Battle was you as a team in general, not the actual mode.

SPLATOON 2 IS NOT CAPTURE THE FLAG.
Stop marching into their fucking base and leaving them to take all of our turf.

IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK.

I believe you start around 1500, you it shouldn't be hard to reach 1600 with a bit of luck.

this looks nasty but ive heard mayo tastes different in Europe compared to the American stuff which is basically lubrication for bread. can anyone whos had both describe the difference?

This looks wunderful

EU Mayo is something for the gods

That's kind of what splat zones is...

Is it? Splat Zones is King of the Hill if anything.

I'm thinking a flag in each base, somewhere like where the rainmaker goals are. Then take the enemy team's flag back to your base to score, can't deliver it while your flag is off its stand. Paint your flag to return it. Maybe a slight rainmaker-style speed reduction while carrying as well.

Rainmaker is already kinda close. Though a true CTF mode should keep these geniuses out of Turf War or at least make them better at what they're trying to do considering they'd need to defend their own flag too.

Yeah it's basically 1-flag CTF. 2 flag could be fun though.

not as if people defend the rainmaker

It takes like pure fat or nothing. I used to mix it with ketchup. But then again I also used to put curry powder on my ketchup..
I hope people here aren't confusing mayo with yogurt sauces like tzatziki

I'm not sure how well that would work with Splatoon mechanics. It's easier to sneak into enemy bases when you don't have to paint your way there.
