Destiny 2 without PvP, would it be worth it?

First, let me explain why I won't bother with pvp in Destiny 2:

- I play with a controller on PC
- It's peer to peer connection
- I live in Asia, combine it with the point above
- I'm not a huge fan of pvp multiplayer in the first place

Co-op looting RPG is one of my favorite genre, ranging from mmorpg like WoW to the recent The Division where I've spent hundreds of hours. I look forward to Destiny 2 mainly due to its PvE aspect. I love loot and doing various missions to upgrade my gear to tackle the ultimate PvE content in the game. But without any desire to take part in PvP content, would I make a good purchase?

Anyone else going to do the same thing?
 
I played Destiny 1 PvE only except when a questline called for PvP. And I have over 600 hours in the game.

So I think if you just never ever ever wanted to touch PvP, you'd be fine.

I never did pvp in destiny 1 and I had fun. The end game raids were also very challenging from what I recall.
 
I honestly didnt know Destiny even had PVP until people talked about the beta :o
 
I primarily played PvE content in Destiny but even just casually PvP can be enjoyable. You don't have to make it a sweat-fest and there will likely be some incentivized reasons to play it, not competitively necessarily, but rank / rep / "bounty" that can help you get gear faster or weapons and armor that may come from PvP but be useful in the PvE game.

I'm basing this off Destiny 1, and with the new systems being a slight revision of what we've seen most likely I can't say this for certain but have a feeling it will still hold true.

The meta that Destiny 1 ended on is terrible.. but the PvP feels great. The only people that were still playing Destiny 1 at the end of the game made it a sweat-fest since they were some of the best players and there wasn't a vast pool of players to pull from.

Similar situation here, although I'll usually do some Iron Banner whenever it comes up. Other than that, I usually won't touch PvP with a ten-foot pole. Co-op is where it's at, all day every day. Over 800 hours logged having some good times with friends.
 
I mean I almost only did PVP in Destiny 1. I did the main story and never really bothered with the rest of it for about 100 hours. haha

I think either way is perfectly acceptable, it's one of the most flexible games when it comes to that.
 
Good to know.

Hopefully Bungie won't listen to the crowds who are asking them to get rid of the aim assist on PC completely.

There's an Asian server in Battle.net, I think I played Diablo III in Asia server. But strangely enough it recommends me to join the American server when I first boot up the launcher the other day.
 
There is a clear divide between PvE and PvP fans and they should cater to it as such vs. constantly trying to mold the two into one

I buy Destiny for the PvP first, messing around in PvE occasionally (though hopefully it'll be a lot better this time around). I probably wouldn't buy it without
 
The only issue with skipping PVP is that (at least in Destiny 1) there were quests, including exotic quests, that required PVP to complete. I don't think there was anything exclusive (maybe Trials stuff?), but the alternative was hoping for a random drop or Xur selling it.

Personally, I hated pretty much every single PVP quest so if they were to go away I'd be very happy, but i kind of doubt that will happen.
 
Yup. My friend hates PVP. For me it wouldn't be at all. I play Destiny for PVP - it's all down to preference and you can find things to like in both but I always wanted to do Crucible more than anything in the game. 700 hours.
 
I played about 8 hrs of pvp in Destiny 1 and didn't feel like it added anything to my hundreds of hours of game time.

I think I'm fine with pvp quest, as long as I can actually complete it (not a daily or something like that).
 
Kinda fun when you know you're the host, you feel sorta godlike.

When you're not the host, it's not as bad as I'd anticipated, you do have to lead a little bit though.
 
It's no problem, Destiny allows for a lot of playstyles.

I didn't care for the original's PvP no matter how much I wanted to. The idea of using your earned gear against others is intriguing as hell, but really hard to balance, especially when you add crazy shit like supers into the mix.

I'm hopeful that 2 works out better; I'm optimistic after the Beta but due to it's limited content we don't have the capacity to know if it's improved, and I'm not holding my breath.
 
Destiny is at its best when you are not playing the pvp modes. You could buy it strictly for the raids and it would be worth it.

Some have already said here that the pvp is garbage. They are correct.

Others have said that's a bit harsh. They are incorrect.

I don't want them to do that but I would like to have separate playlists or something. I'm sure there will be enough players to justify and sustain segregated KB+M/controller PVP.
 
In Destiny 1, you could suck at PVP and still come out ahead with nice post-game rewards.

It's there for people who like it, but it's literally just there.
 
You'll get a solid 2 months of PvE if you play a lot. By then its stake but you'll be a few weeks away from a new campaign, strikes and potentially Raid and Patrol area via DLC.

I would've gotten tired of Destiny a long ass time ago if I didn't like Pvap, but co-op PvE is certainly super fun the first few times you go through the content.
 
I'm in a similar boat. Outside of possibly playing through the campaign with a mate, I've no intention of engaging with the multiplayer side of things whatsoever, let alone PvP in particular. I bought an Nvidia key, though, so I'm stuck with the game regardless of any misgivings that may arise.
 
for my experience with the demo, PvE is the best thing, story campaign come second and i didn't touch PvP at all
 
Yes. Destiny's PvP kind of sucks and sadly the beta for 2 was even worse than the first
 
Yes! Destiny PvE IS the reason to get Destiny. The PvP mode is garbage (netcode, p2p, hit reg, balancing issues, etc). PvE has issues, but it is tons of fun and fulfilling, specially raiding.

I honestly did think it was mandatory to get some of the equipment or whatever the heck you need to level up. I know I'm wrong now but I always thought to get into some of the raids you had to pour hours of time into PVP.
Maybe I will look into Destiny 2 if I don't have to touch the PVP.
 
It's pretty much half the game for me, so while a person can easily make the case that Destiny 1 or 2 may be worth the price of admission for PvE alone, I definitely feel like, for me, it has to be there now. It increased the longevity of Destiny 1 for me *a lot*. I can already tell from playing the PC beta of Destiny 2 it's going to be huge for me. So yeah, flexible value proposition depending on who you are.
 
Yes yes yes. The revamped patrol makes it worth it alone. Events in patrol now have heroic versions for better loot. Actual NPCs out in the field that you give tokens too. That you earn through patrol to get more loot. Story apparently is around 80 missions. In game lore etc. Gonna be a lot better experience then it was in d1.
 
Yes, I greatly enjoyed my time with Destiny and I maybe only played PVP for 15 or 20% of the cumulative time I put in.

PVP is certainly what extends it for the long months between major content, but for me that was just inactive time.

I did one week of Iron Banner because I thought the gear looked neat, tried some Trials of Osiris with some friends once, and dabbled in Crucible here and there, and it was all fine and dandy for the most part, but it absolutely does not stick out in my mind as one of my favorite parts of Destiny.

EDIT: Like I said, if I ran out of PVE content to do, I'd just put the game on ice and wait for Bungie to release more in intervening months. Destiny was a game I loved in month-long bursts, and I was perfectly fine with that.
 
I can't say since the game isn't out yet, but I happily played many hundreds of hours of PvE with the goal of making PvE more fun. I played loads of crucible too, but it wasn't always a good time like pve was.
 
I would love for thier sole focus to be PVE. It would solve a bunch of balance issues as well.

I only played PVP to grind gear to help towards PVE.
 
Sure, I see no reason to play PvP (except gear maybe) when there are better fps games for that. Destiny 1 had at least quite fun casual pvp but didn't like that 4v4 beta at all.
 
Most of the people I play with have at one point or another avoided playing PVP. That said, I think it will depend on how much you love the game. I know those same diehards came around on the crucible just because they had sorta run out of other stuff to do but still wanted to play the game.

Maybe they will figure out the aim assist in the PC version and you can be competitive in PVP. I don't see why this is so hard? Turn it on if controller input is detected and off if there is none. Boom, Instantly level playing field.


OK maybe I'm over simplifying...

In some MMORPGs I know, gear specs are divided into PvP and PvE.

If you aim to get the PvE gear sets, you only need to do PvE, and vice versa. Of course, you can aim to get them all too.

From my short observasion, it seems that there's no such thing as PvP and PvE gears in Destiny 2. Is that right?
 
Totally fine, but you'd be fine with controller (it feels great in D2) and Asia (the way the server system works, seems to localise really well for ping) - I'm in NZ and I've pretty much only been in matches with other Kiwis and Aussies going by Bnet names (Kiwis love putting NZ in their user names it seems haha).

PVE is definitely the majority of content in D2, so you'll be fine if you ignore PVP, but I think you'd still have fun with it as it is currently :)
