A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Third disconnect tonight.
First two during an "adventure" (is this what replaced Patrol Missions?), right at the end, forcing us to restart from the beginning.
Second after getting to the control room in Hope.
I'm really not feeling this game.
I'm not following the story because there is this total disconnect from what humanity has achieved and become. It's all still such an ambiguous blur from D1, that it's hard to care that yet another deep-voiced baddie showed up to fuck the good guys up.
So many blanks that I wanted (hell, needed.) filled in about the races, the Traveler, this "Darkness" umbrella term, etc...Who are Exos and Awoken and why do they exist? What did the Traveler do to bring these races together with mankind?
I'm also not liking the fact that the Golden Age space conqueror/warrior look of armor (specifically Titan) is getting done away with in favour of makeshift, almost Medieval looking plating held together with rope and leather straps.
Almost like that entire volume of Destiny lore (arguably the most interesting) is getting glossed over to make way for the plot-driving, one-track conflict with yet another member of the "Darkness" AKA just a coy euphemism for "evil".
Other than that, the music sounds nice, if a bit forgettable; and the palette sure is colourful. Love that.
But, again. It looks OK. Artistically it is beautiful, barring some muddy areas and empty recesses of flat terrain and textures. But, technically, this game is wholly unimpressive.
Where are these super taxing physics simulations Bungie was touting? The water, trees, and overall terrain barely move; and the enemies, while plentiful and decently agile, bounce off in rather floaty, simple ragdolls after explosions.
So far, I haven't seen anything that differentiates it that much from Destiny 1, and the sad thing is, that game ran on last gen consoles.
I only have two major hopes for this franchise: First, I really hope the backstory doesn't get completely sidelined for more stories about saving a bunch of far future orb-worshippers from the mysterious Darkness; and secondly, I really, really, really, reeeeeeeeaaaaaally hope Bungie comes to their senses about framerate; they have to realize they can keep their God-tier art direction intact, while giving their admittedly brilliant gameplay the wings it sorely needs.
They're under the same banner as COD for goodness sake. Just. Do it!
