Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Third disconnect tonight.

First two during an "adventure" (is this what replaced Patrol Missions?), right at the end, forcing us to restart from the beginning.

Second after getting to the control room in Hope.

I'm really not feeling this game.

I'm not following the story because there is this total disconnect from what humanity has achieved and become. It's all still such an ambiguous blur from D1, that it's hard to care that yet another deep-voiced baddie showed up to fuck the good guys up.

So many blanks that I wanted (hell, needed.) filled in about the races, the Traveler, this "Darkness" umbrella term, etc...Who are Exos and Awoken and why do they exist? What did the Traveler do to bring these races together with mankind?

I'm also not liking the fact that the Golden Age space conqueror/warrior look of armor (specifically Titan) is getting done away with in favour of makeshift, almost Medieval looking plating held together with rope and leather straps.

Almost like that entire volume of Destiny lore (arguably the most interesting) is getting glossed over to make way for the plot-driving, one-track conflict with yet another member of the "Darkness" AKA just a coy euphemism for "evil".

Other than that, the music sounds nice, if a bit forgettable; and the palette sure is colourful. Love that.

But, again. It looks OK. Artistically it is beautiful, barring some muddy areas and empty recesses of flat terrain and textures. But, technically, this game is wholly unimpressive.

Where are these super taxing physics simulations Bungie was touting? The water, trees, and overall terrain barely move; and the enemies, while plentiful and decently agile, bounce off in rather floaty, simple ragdolls after explosions.

So far, I haven't seen anything that differentiates it that much from Destiny 1, and the sad thing is, that game ran on last gen consoles.

I only have two major hopes for this franchise: First, I really hope the backstory doesn't get completely sidelined for more stories about saving a bunch of far future orb-worshippers from the mysterious Darkness; and secondly, I really, really, really, reeeeeeeeaaaaaally hope Bungie comes to their senses about framerate; they have to realize they can keep their God-tier art direction intact, while giving their admittedly brilliant gameplay the wings it sorely needs.

They're under the same banner as COD for goodness sake. Just. Do it!

Ayy completed all the quests on Titan and got the
rat king
exotic quest. Will probably try and do it tomorrow.

This game is good man. I've barely touched Crucible too.

That quest line , especially the end will test your patience like no other quest. Have you read up on it?

Interesting.

Is there a more rare class in D2 or is exotic still the rarest?

Kind of makes it a lot less exciting to get one so early in the game lol.

I've found one exotic engram in the 14 hours i've played. More common but not very common. The game as gives you 1 exotic armor piece, 1 exotic gun, and 1 exotic engram through playing and beating the game unlocks 1 exotic quest line for each patrol.

Still cant get anyone in game to join my fireteam.

I really think the story is better played with other guardians but nobody wants to play.

I was already halfway through the main story as a hunter when I started a new Warlock game today because I wasn't just feeling it.

It's not because the Hunter sucks, I really love the mobility and perks... but the more I play it the more I realise that I'd probably be a hindrance come raids since I'm the type that likes to sit back and heal than jump around solo during mp.

Is this a good idea? Or god forbid, I should have went for Titan?

You know, I'm extremely disappointed that the Ghaul side of the story basically leads to jack shit. When it became clear that we were going to get continuous cutscenes of Ghaul's side of things, I was pumped. Hell yeah, getting the villain's perspective, Halo 2 woo! And then nothing. All those Speaker interrogations lead nowhere, in the end he's just like "okay fine I'll take the light now jeez". And what in the hell was with him killing his old friend? That felt so fucking random. Ghaul's clearly been on an extremely long quest with this old friend for quite a while and he kills him because he nagged him for a few days? What?

Most of the writing in this game is seriously bad. I like Ghaul and his buddy, Zavala, Ikora, Cayde is okay, and that's about it.

I liked that the Speaker ended up being a liar and seemingly was bullshitting. I feel like that was the biggest thing about those scenes. I still don't trust the Traveler tbh, sketchy ass god machine. Also I'm like 90% sure Ghaul hated is "old friend." Being the treated as a weapon of revenge probably doesn't win you many friend points.

Made it to 20. Campaign ends on a pretty great note. Genuinely surprised they were able to pad out about 10 hours of content over the course of that campaign without reusing too many levels and without relying on strikes. Still have yet to even play a strike. The new focus on public events and patrol spaces is where the game really shines. They're easy to find, fun to do, and genuinely worth the time spent on them.

Some of the geometry affects flight physics in funky ways and I had a second freezeup on my PS4Pro in 1080p, but outside that, I'm very excited to see what the new mid-game before the Raid has in store!

Gun Preferences:

Anything that isn't an auto-rifle or SMG feels mostly bad, with most hand cannons feeling ok, and auto-shooting scout rifles feeling amazing. I love the SMGs. LOVE them. Wish snipers weren't relegated to power weapon status as I'll almost always prefer rockets.

So is there any reason to wait on doing the adventures? I've just arrived on
Nessus
and I'm seeing a bunch of 90 power adventures with shitty rare rewards that would probably be useful to get now at a lower level then wait on doing them at a higher level.

I'm at this point in the game and I'm as high as level 19 with 178 power.

Anyone do the nightfall already? How difficult was it? Me and a friend used to two-man nightfalls but this one sounds a lot more difficult.

Honestly, even public events are tough solo. If there's a big boss at the end of an event I just give up and stick around for the chest at the end. There's no point.

Yeah... story wise things didn't really end up where I wanted it to go.

Pure potential squandered.

At level 19, I'd ignore them and just go power level (if you haven't already beaten the campaign)

Jesus, nothing about this final boss is fun

I liked that the level you fight in is very large with lots of cover and tunnels. I also liked that it tried to include some very minor mechanics outside the typical point and shoot, but damn if that fucker doesn't take forever to beat. And if you use your power weapons on a go only to die on that go, it's ultra-frustrating.

As I said, I just arrived on
Nessus
. Should I just be going through the campaign? I feel this need to take my time exploring the planets and doing their adventures, but feel it's only going to make what is an already easy campaign easier.

there is nothing you should be doing. If the adventures look appealing do that, if you don't really care and just want to continue go on with the campaign. You are going to get drops regardless of what you do.

Hopefully Destiny 3 isn't rewritten the year of it's intended release and pushed back a year for once lol. D2 was at least much more focused and driven than TTK and ROI. It's by far the best story content in the series, so I can only assume it will get better with DLCs.

Apologies for missing that! You're way overpowered to be spending your time on "adventures".

Power through the campaign. You'll unlock far more challenging events and experiences when you clear it.

Anybody want to play story with me.

I'm on the first titan mission. Psn

I would, but my wife kicked me out of the room so she could get some sleep.

What headset do you recommend for the PS4? I found a monobud with a mic but I was thinking about getting something better, but not crazy expensive.

Are the nightfall strikes a one time thing again, as in you get something really special the first time you do it?

In remember getting coins or something in Destiny 1.

I enjoy my HyperX Cloud II's. Detachable mic and good, comfortable headset with option for padding (pleather or breathable fabric).

Good lord post-20 is just a firehose of new gear. I barely get to use a gun and then hey here's another and hey check this one out and oops here's another one! I know Destiny was stingy but it's like they've swung too far in the other direction.

And Failsafe is legit y'all.

Only completed two strikes so far, but it's so refreshing to play a Destiny strike and be like, uh, what am I doing?

I haven't done any lost sectors because I was thinking the loot will scale with my characters level. Is this a right thing to do?

According to all the insane dedicated Destiny players I follow, this is the right thing to do. Also, supposedly you should save as many milestones as possible for when you get to light level 260 because milestone loot will scale above that.

Good lord I know Destiny was stingy but it's like they've swung too far in the other direction.

Not even a little bit possible.

It will to a point, but they are also replayable after a reset.

You don't have to go nuts paying attention to that though unless you're rushing. You can do lost sectors here and there and get upgrades from them.

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so tedious. And if there weren't so many invulnerable phases. And if he couldn't 1-hit stomp you off the ship. Or slow you near a bunch of shield dudes who will melee you instantly.

I went in underleveled/geared, but I never felt like I was dying because of that, only because of cheap bullshit that would have killed me anyway.

And the ending sucked.

Do Lost Sectors reset at some point? I'd imagine so for the sake of having that incentive to keep coming back. Their symbols still remain on the map even after completing them.

Subtle things that are fantastic:

-Being able to just set a waypoint of your own on a map at all and head towards it makes it feel immeasurably more like an "open world." Maybe the effect is mostly psychological, but this is real.

Speaking of the map, they should tweak some things.

- You should be able to see your fireteam on the map.
- You should be able to fast travel to your fireteam.
- You should be able to set a waypoint to specific areas on the map that aren't icons, like lost sectors or region chests.
- You should be able to fast travel when you have a patrol mission active.
