I assume any actual developments will get new threads.

Here's a link to Boogie's speech about tolerating bigots:

"If you were a straight white man, you had to learn to tolerate the African Americans who moved into your neighborhood...but along with that came the fact that you would also be tolerated...everyone would be tolerated, even people who were wrong, even people who were bigoted"
The equating of tolerating bigotry with tolerating being a human who isn't white really is some boogie-level shit.
I have mixed feelings about this. 50 years ago in the U.S., the word racist was used to describe a particular type of person who thought another race was inferior, and therefore subjugation and unequal treatment were justified. I think our progressive culture necessarily expanded the scope of the word in part because during the 1960s and 1970s racism and racists went underground in many parts of the country; it became covert.
I dont know much about Pewdiepie and his beliefs, but does he actually think black people are inferior? Is what he said necessarily racist, or could it just be bad culture? In no way am I attempting to excuse what he said, instead I am interested in how some of you see this issue.
Bad culture and racism are certainly not mutually exclusive; the latter often follows from the former, but bad culture doesnt always indicate racism. Can you still be a racist if you do not buy into the superiority complex? Does racism even make sense without race supremacy? I think a lot of liberals (and I consider myself liberal) would probably say that the superiority complex is not a requirement to racism, that actions and words are racist based on their effects and outcomes. Maybe, but I dont think I can get entirely behind that. The racists of the 1950s and before are still around, and they are likely lost causes; we should call them out and do everything we can to exact societal penalties for their racist beliefs and actions. But I think a lot of other people simply grew up in insulated communities with bad culture. I think these people can be reached through conversation and education (confirmed by my anecdotal experience), and I think a lot of other liberals feel that way also. If you try to start the conversation with youre racist then any real chance to persuade is lost. I think this sort of perspective is why many people across the political spectrum hesitate to shout thats racist.
Oh my god.
I honestly though the "Centrist" label was a straw man and people didn't actually talk like this.
I'm obviously wrong and ashamed to even think that I am supposedly on the same part of the political spectrum as this asshat.
This isn't political centrism, this is bullshit of the highest order.
I know Boogie has been here before he got permed and I'm sure he probably lurks here so I'll address this directly.
You don't "tolerate" other people around you, you live with them. If your perception of a neighborhood is people tolerating each other then you're a blinkered, sheltered idiot.
You're either naive beyond comprehension or a disingenuous cunt. I don't think you're the former.
It's telling that so many people are more concerned about someone being labeled a racist than said person actually saying racist things.
Even if pewdiepie isn't racist (I don't think he is, I do think he believes the word isn't a big deal, he probably thinks the word means something else in that context because that's the rationale given by people for using fag/faggot), there's a shitload of people like him who haven't been taught (or don't care) about the fact that the word is for the most part off limits to white people except in very rare/specific circumstances.
people like him[/B] who haven't been taught (or don't care) about the fact that the word is for the most part off limits to white people except in very rare/specific circumstances.
I don't why people are so bothered about somebody being called racist, I mean it's just a word ¯_(ツ_/¯
Some of you are acting like PDP is Jackie Chan in Rush Hour or something. He wasn't saying a word he'd heard somewhere, he wasn't even trying to make an edgy joke, he angrily screamed "WHAT A FUCKING N****R" at someone who annoyed him. In his mind the most insulting thing to call someone, the worst thing he could compare someone to was "A FUCKING N****R".
I have no qualms with saying that PDP is a fucking racist piece of shit, and you people caping for him just enable this shitty behaviour and the behaviour of those like him. You should be ashamed.

It's not really a matter of "i should be able to say it", it's just acknowledging the history behind it is really bad and it's an unwritten social rule to not say it because for 100+ years white people used it to put down black people. It's really not a big deal at all to not use it but so many white people think they're being robbed of something and in response they use it more often in order to be an asshole for no reason. They've mistakenly come to believe that freedom of speech means you should act like a dick and ignore social norms just because you can.
And even if you ignore all the history, social norms, and all that shit, why would you even have the urge to use that word anyway in place of something like "idiot, asshole, cunt, piece of shit, etc."? There's a plethora of words to call someone if you're pissed at them that don't have a deep racist history, and yet so many people want to use the one with the racist history? It's just really ignorant/stupid.
I really did used to like Boogie, he seemed like a genuine guy. Here's a link to Boogie's speech about tolerating bigots:

I've come to realize that in the context of the video, he actually used the word nigger here as a way to reassure himself of his perceived dominance over an inferior player. Like how saying, "what was this kid thinking about trying to 1v1 me??" simultaneously attempts to emasculate and assert superiority. But instead of saying something normal like that...his mind went straight to the ultimate in racial epithets to conjure the same sort of temporary self-esteem and confidence boost. Him saying nigger was him reassuring his superiority in his mind while supposing a level of stupidity/inferiority within his slain enemy. Because that's what a nigger is to him. He meant what he said.
lol, that's like...textbook racist thinking. lol
Exactly. It's almost as if those people are racist or something
I've been saying this for a quite a while. I don't know why people even follow these morally baseless gaming personalities.Fuck this piece of shit
I'm curious as to what Boogie's limit is.
Like, he's OK with someone black being called a nigger to their face right? Because not accepting that would be intolerant.
Just as long as no one is called fat it's all good.
Translates the same way. An inferior player taking something from him he felt was his. Still a matter of the inferior vs the superior and the words he chose to highlight that difference. No, that's not the intent of the word in that situation. He's using it to describe someone that's turning around and kills his (PDP's) teammate rather than facing him or someone that knows they're losing and instead ruins the game for him and his partner.

So n- is not meant hatefully??????????? Did you actually comprehend Dream's post?
Are you saying nigger is meant to denote people that ruin "fun" and that is not meant in a hateful way while referencing a minority?
wtf

Its a fucking shame but thanks to certain elements within the gaming community a lot of these people have either begun to think they should comment on politics (despite having, at best, a tenuous grasp on the subject) or commenting on politics to defend what they perceive as 'their people.'
And it comes down to realizing that a lot of these people just aren't very intelligent.
Fun fact... this quote actually originates from the Proverbs of Solomon.
Sure, but I think you guys underestimate just how ignorant some people can be about history, especially kids in isolated white communities who aren't taught black history or have neighborhoods/parents who are racist or indifferent to shit like the n word.
I think maybe for a lot of younger kids the n word is taking the path that faggot took to be a synonym for asshole or something. It's really stupid and needs to be stopped but I think that's what's happening, especially with the anti-PC shit, Trumpism, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount of kids think saying the word is about being anti-authority/anti-PC rather than anti-black. It's complete cancer especially on sites like twitch where saying it has become a meme but I don't really know what the solution is.
Boogie's limit is fat shaming, only when someone would be prejudiced against him is it a problem.
I'm not really educated at all on this topic, but I've always wondered why is it that the word is used so frequently in rap songs?
It's all well and good but you're in a thread that exists because the worst thing PDP could call someone is the derogatory term for black people.
Literally the worst thing he can think of someone is to compare them to black people.
If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about where he stands on black people you probably won't be convinced if he starts up hanging black people from trees next to big burning crosses.
He's 27. He's well aware of the word nigger and it's implications.
Also, you are basically highlighting racism today, the racism that is hidden under the guise of something else, see my post you are quoting for countless examples.
I'm gonna make it more clear cut, because a lot of the arguments defending PewDiePie from charges of racism could be made about the following....
That's 5 high school students in an Iowa town posing in Klan hoods with a Confederate flag next to a burning cross for a picture.[/URL] There's probably no black person around to see it, and for all we know, those kids don't believe themselves to be superior or black people to be inferior. I mean, we can't read their minds, right? Let's be charitable and say they just want to be "edgy."
It's still racist as fuck. They should still be held accountable. Calling them racist for doing something racist seems pretty apt to me.
I think the word itself carries that superiority complex with it. People like PewDiePie might not fully realize the full scope of the connotation the n-word holds, but their use of it still empowers the ideas that created the meaning of the word. You can't separate a word like that from the history that comes along with it, so when someone says it in the context it was said in the video, it still very well perpetuates racism. Clearly the n-word in itself is racist, so what does that make of someone who uses it? Regardless of just how racist someone is who uses it, it still makes them enablers of racism itself. I don't think ignorance should be used as an excuse anymore when at this point, everyone should know better if they actually care about fighting racism.
And he needs to be called out for the racist he is because he influences millions of people.
So, an n word is a coward? Or a dick? Or an asshole?Yeah, I guess you could view it as like a coward's way out. For most people that play, it's just a dick/asshole move within the context of the game. And of course Felix replaces that with his twisted version of a synonym for any appropriate term.
Not at all what I'm saying. I know people are out for blood in here but I'm not about whatever you're trying to paint me with.
and you're willing to extend all this benefit of the doubt to someone like PDP who is a grown man who has used the word before and used other racial slurs?
and you're willing to extend all this benefit of the doubt to someone like PDP who is a grown man who has used the word before and used other racial slurs?
I don't know anything about him. I've seen like 3 or 4 of his vids and nothing in them made me think he was racist so that's all I know. I'm going off what I see as a growing trend in the gaming community to view socially unacceptable words/phrases as something that should be said just to be edgy and troll people rather than because they actually mean them.
Maybe most people who do that really are legitimately racist/sexist etc. (even if they don't recognize it), especially if they affiliate with right wing politics, but I think also a lot of them just think they're being anti-authority and think liberal feel-good, be nice to people politics is stupid/cringy or whatever.
I agree, I would place them into the lost cause category.
There's a reason. And it should be readily apparent what that reason is BECAUSE they say they know nothing about him.Why do people keep caping for this dude despite saying they know nothing about him
So, an n word is a coward? Or a dick? Or an asshole?
That doesn't help like you think it does.
Using fucking n word as an insult is racist. No matter why you're insulting someone. If the guy is a coward, call them a fucking coward. Using a racial epithet as a synonym is a racist act, full stop.

2 thoughts:
One, racists stick together.
Two, some people have a reflex to protect white people from accusations of racism no matter what they know or don't know. In other words, racists stick together.
What, you don't know any 40 year olds with life-size replica Keyblades?
Why do people keep caping for this dude despite saying they know nothing about him

You know, it used to be "Don't call me nigga" to "Yeah, I am a nigga, and don't you wish you were?"
